    Great experience

One of the most sensitive films I have recently seen on Bengali television. Very intense and gripping, it is indeed a fascinating journey into the exploration of father daughter relationship in a very contemporary story revolving around an Alzeimer's patient and a call girl. The performances are really good by the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee, the doyen of Bengalicinema and Indrani Halder, a very gifted actress of contemporary Bengali film and television. The script is very structured and the music direction is quite subtle and appropriate. The most interesting aspect of this production is that though its primarily made for television, it gives the feel of a feature film by virtue of its presentation.

It is about two people, one an old man, the other, a young woman, thrown together in extra-ordinary circumstances.

ASAMAPTO translates into "Unfinished" in English. It is a moving comment on the strange manifestations of human interaction between two people belonging to two very different cultural and social worlds. The director takes care not to reduce the relationship between an old man and a young woman to cliché and melodrama at any point.

The cinematography is beautifully lit within the interiors of a small apartment in Calcutta, the music lends itself to the sombre mood of the film. But what truly stands out is the acting by the entire cast. Atanu is a director of great promise indeed as this film has set out to prove.
