While everyone is talking about the next live-action Lord of the Rings film, the Hunt for Gollum, which will include Peter Jackson making a comeback to the franchise, WB Animation has been quietly working on its previously announced Lord of the Rings animated picture.
First revealed in June 2021 during 20th anniversary celebrations of the film franchise, WB shared the first details on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Described as an anime movie, the project was subsequently confirmed to be a collaboration between WB Animation and Tokyo-based Solo Entertainment.
Earlier this week, WB Animation confirmed that The War of the Rohirrim would be showcased at next month's Annecy Film Festival and also released three hi-res versions of previously released conceptual images from the film. Specifically, the first footage from the film will be showcased (and hopefully) uploaded near the time of the panel.

Adrian Grünberg's 2019 film "Rambo: Last Blood" brings John Rambo's story to a very weird, very bad end. "Last Blood," the fifth film in the Rambo saga, ends with a bloodbath straight out of a "Saw" movie, wherein the film's eponymous soldier (Sylvester Stallone) lures an army of Mexican criminals into the catacombs under his home where he cuts off their feet, decapitates them, and removes their still-beating hearts with his bare hands. His extreme acts of violence are resented as morally permissible, however, as the Mexican characters are both faceless and uniformly evil drug dealers and human traffickers.

Michael Bilandic’s cinema has, over the course of four very small-scale features, staked out a distinct corner in indie film. Focusing on niche interests—be it the fledgling trance scene of 2009 or YouTube horrorcore rappers—the New York-based director’s films feel of the moment but never trend-chasing or too cool for the room. Simply put: a truly personal corpus.
His distinct style and interests are perfectly encapsulated in his newest work, Project Space 13, about Nate (Keith Poulson), a performance artist who sees his latest stunt involving bug-eating and other narcissistic, attention-grabbing shenanigans halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Nate still has somewhat of an audience, though, as he’s protected by two assigned security guards at the performance space, one a young loose cannon (Hunter Zimny) and the other an older Covid-denier (Theodore Bouloukos). While outside riots escalate New York City into an apocalyptic state, the three men discuss their variety of differences.

We’ll be honest: The trailer for Clint Eastwood’s new film, Cry Macho, had us guessing for a while. The initial setup—former rodeo star gets sent to Mexico to recover wayward kid—has some of the energy of a late-era Rambo movie, specifically the “Don’t ever go to Mexico, kids!” vibe of 2019's Last Blood. (That is, if…...

Sylvester Stallone donned the headband of John Rambo five times over the course of 37 years as the franchise evolved from the surprisingly dark and complex action-orientated thrills of First Blood to the overblown shoot em’ up histrionics of the following two sequels, before going somewhat back to basics for the final installments, which were smaller in scale but just as gratuitously violent as their predecessors.
Last year’s fifth outing was called Last Blood for a reason, with the 74 year-old leading man and action icon seemingly retiring his other career-defining character for good. In fact, Stallone recently admitted that the only way the series could continue would be as a prequel developed exclusively for a streaming service, or the Vietnam veteran wouldn’t return at all.

Horror and animation don’t exactly go hand in hand. I’m not exactly sure why, maybe it is because when people think of animated movies their minds always think of children’s or family movies. Even when you ink of animated horror, my mind goes to A Nightmare Before Christmas, Paranorman, Monster House or Coraline. All very entertaining movies but still aimed at children. But in recent years there have been a few more ‘adult’ horror animations with Resident Evil: Degeneration and Seoul Station, while anime has always, on a smaller scale, been pushing horror with films like Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The Last Vampire. Attack of the Demons though is very different from any of these.

Sylvester Stallone has left such an indelible impression on modern cinema that he has three statues dedicated to his most famous characters. There’s the Rocky monument outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, while two recreations of Rambo stand proud in the Canadian town of Hope where the majority of First Blood was shot, which just goes to show the impact that the 74 year-old’s most iconic roles have had on the world.
Stallone has played both Rocky and Rambo in the very recent past as well, and even picked up an Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for Creed, making him one of the few individuals to have ever been nominated twice for portraying the same character after getting a nod for Lead Actor way back in 1976 for his first outing as the Italian Stallion.

It’d be hard to meet someone who grew up in the 70s and 80s without knowing about Sylvester Stallone and his myriad of major hit films. He brought to life fictional boxer Rocky Balboa in the Rocky franchise, starred alongside Kurt Russell in the buddy cop flick Tango & Cash, and even took a stab at musical comedy with Dolly Parton in Rhinestone. And though he’s well-known for those movies and more, one film series really put him on the map as the badass action star he became synonymous with over the years.
Stallone’s role as Vietnam veteran John Rambo for the 1982 action-thriller First Blood made him a sensation in the industry. The pic tells the story of a former Green Beret traveling by foot who stumbles upon abusive law enforcement while passing through a rural town. Rambo: Last Blood appeared to be a definitive film for its titular character. Its title deliberately harked back to the original, while playing into an extensive marketing campaign that this would be the last ever Rambo. That would preclude the chance of a Rambo 6 ever getting made. But going by Sylvester Stallone’s latest comments, that may not be the case after all.
The actor has teased that Rambo “could be back” with the below comment posted on Instagram, which was made to hype up the newly released “Real Journey” cut of Last Blood on Amazon Prime:
“See The Real Journey – ” You Just Don’T Turn It Off!!!! ” Make It #1 This Weekend ! ( He could be back ) Much respect , Sly.”

When Rambo: Last Blood had its theatrical run back in the fall, two different versions of the film were made available by Lionsgate. In North America and the UK, the released cut ran at 89 minutes. Last Blood not only ran 12 minutes longer in international territories though, but contained an alternate opening, too.
Quite why it was released like that is unclear, but the upshot was a large number of people missing out on the additional footage – an omission that audiences in the Us will now be able to correct. And that’s because the extended, international cut of the movie is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Hooray? I’ll let you place the requisite emotional modifier.

Why not take a look at the lighter side of the film industry for a moment, right? The 40th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards were just held, albeit without an audience, culminating in Cats pulling a sweep, including of course the coveted (?) prize of Worst Picture. A total of six wins went its way, with Rambo: Last Blood being the only other title to grab more than one prize, as it was given two categories to claim as its own. As soon as the movie got savaged like it did, we all knew Cats was winning this prize, so it was really just academic at this point. After years spent indulging in franchise films like Rambo and Rocky, Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone is entering uncharted waters for his next film, Samaritan.
It’s a totally original idea from the mind of Bragi F. Schut, the screenwriter behind Escape Room (another Sly joint), and centers on a “young boy who is out to discover if a mythic superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive.” It is, without question, a refreshing change of pace for Stallone, particularly after Last Blood finished the Rambo saga not with a bang, but a whimper.
Also starring Martin Starr, Moises Arias, Dascha Polanco and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), Samaritan was once headed for a release in November of 2020, but Stallone and his team needed more time to dot the Is and cross the Ts, and so the MGM thriller was pushed back by three whole weeks.

Show business sure is fickle. Four years ago Sylvester Stallone won the Redeemer Award from the Razzies for his Oscar-nominated performance in “Creed,” but now he’s back on their hit list, nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay for “Rambo: Last Blood.” He could extend an unfortunate record if he wins again.
To date, Stallone has won Worst Actor four times, more than anyone else: “Rhinestone” (1984); “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and “Rocky IV” (1985); “Rambo III” (1988); and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” (1992). And that doesn’t even count his “victories” for Worst Actor of the 1980s and Worst Actor of the 20th Century. He also has the most Worst Actor nominations of all time (15) — basically he’s the Meryl Streep of the Razzies.

The Razzie nominations are out and Cats, A Madea Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood cleaned up.
The Golden Raspberry Foundation announced its picks for 2019’s worst achievements in film, a day before the Academy Awards honor the industry’s best.
Cats, which the Razzie folks described as a “widely derided feline flop,” picked up eight nods. A Madea Family Funeral and Rambo: Last Blood also received eight nominations. All three films landed in the worst picture category.
Tyler Perry, who wrote, produced, directed and played four roles in A Madea Family Funeral, received multiple nods — worst screenplay, worst actress, worst screen combo, and two worst supporting actor nominations.
The Razzie Award winners are usually announced the day before the Oscars. But according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the schedule was changed this year due to the Oscar ceremony being moved up. The Razzie Awards date will be announced later.

This week annoyed by a loudmouth blogger of some repute, who declared anime for paedophiles and insulted more or less the whole of Japanese culture, I decided to watch Netflix original anime Knights of Sidonia. His comments have widely been circulated and condemned by many people and he’s just made himself look a fool, and all this just because Gus Van Sant might be directing a Death Note movie. I recognise that anime is not for everyone but still, by dismissing all of it you are missing out on an awful lot of classic work and influential stuff.
Knights of Sidonia has been billed as a Netflix original but it’s quite hard to imagine that they would have been involved in the production of something like this, it’s pretty far out there even for anime and its more likely that Netflix have done what they did with...

As soon as the directing team Radio Silence met Allison Miller, they knew she was perfect for the role of sweet newlywed Sam McCall in their point of view horror flick, Devil’s Due. The 28-year-old, who was born in Rome, Italy, but raised in Kentucky and Florida, had paid her dues as a guest on General Hospital, CSI: NY, Desperate Housewives and Boston Legal and had close calls co-starring in promising new shows. In the Steven Spielberg-produced Terra Nova she starred as Skye Tate, but the show only lasted one season. Similarly, cast opposite Matthew Perry in the NBC sit-com Go On and Ian McShane in the NBC drama Kings held promise, but both shows were cancelled before season two.

Earlier this month we told you about Fever , a new film in the works with Catriona MacColl. Today, we were provided a piece of concept art, by Alex Tuis, for Romain Basset's film. Tuis' credits include Dark Shadows , Silent Hill: Revelation and Blood: The Last Vampire . The horse-headed freak you see below is said to be the "bogeyman" of the tale. Just last week, we presented to you "Fever"'s first teaser poster. "Fever" is an ethereal French horror film that takes place in the world of lucid dreams. The film is Romain Basset's directorial debut in feature film and is co-produced by the team behind Oh My Gore!. Production speeds things up a few weeks before the beginning of filming as we can today introduce to you the boogeyman of the film! Here it is HorseHead's concept art, designed by Alex Tuis ("Silent Hill 3D", "Dark Shadows", "Blood: The Last Vampire") - http://a.tuis.free.fr/ Although it stays away from the more traditional slasher-esque scenery, HorseHead accounts for a true devilish boogeyman, one of the dark entities that frequent Jessica's nightmares. Besides, if you feel like supporting "Fever" and...

Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova has been experiencing a seemingly uneven pace in the show’s development thus far. The sci-fi, time-traveling series was originally to be featured at Comic-Con, but that presentation was canceled and the show launch date was delayed to the fall of 2011 in order to give it an “unique launch to distinguish that the show is unlike any other.” The show also lost David Fury from the producer team, but Brannon Braga held his position as showrunner.
What’s the news for the series now? The show has recently secured actors for a few key roles to complete its ensemble cast and now has had to suffer lay-offs in the writing staff. 20th Century Fox Television was forced to lay off most of the writing staff, including Chris Brancato (X-Files), to cut expenses back due to the change in scheduling of the show’s launch. Since...

“Kamui: the Lone Ninja” is a live action adaptation of the legendary Japanese manga created back in 1964 by Sanpei Shirato, directed by Yoichi Sai, previously responsible for the harrowing Takeshi Kitano drama “Blood and Bones”. The film is a wild fantasy adventure, which enticingly offers not only ninja action and the usual clan wars, but also pirates, sharks, and battles on the high seas. Written by Sai and Kankuro Kudo (“Zebraman”, “Ping Pong”), the film features an all star cast headlined by Matsuyama Kenichi (Detroit Metal City), with support from Koyuki (“Blood: The Last Vampire”), Ito Hideaki (“Umizaru”), Tsuchiya Anna (“Sakuran”), and Ohgo Suzuka (“Into the Faraway Sky”), with an appearance from Hong Kong star Ekin Cheng (“The Storm Warriors”). The film now arrives on region 2 DVD and Blu Ray via Manga Entertainment. The film is set in 17th century Japan, and follows Kamui (Matsuyama Kenichi), a young ninja whose...

Previously only seen in glimpses as a teaser trailer, here’s your first full look at the big-budget live-action “Space Battleship Yamato” movie via YouTube. Based on the popular anime, the live-action movie is directed by Takashi Yamazaki (“Returner”), and stars Koyuki (last seen in “Blood: The Last Vampire”), Aya Ueto (star of the “Azumi” movies), and Takuya Kimura (“I Come with the Rain”). It was apparently shown during a Japanese TV show, hence the Pip with the people, uh, watching the trailer along with us. To save the human race once again facing the danger of extinction, the restored Yamato voyages in to outer space. The year is 2220. A black hole with a size 300 times larger than the sun approaches the Solar System and the earth is expected to fall in to massive black hole. A transmigration to the Sairam Star begins and the first convoy led by Kodai Yuki departs the earth.

Not to be confused with Chris Nahon's Blood: The Last Vampire, as this writer may have done at some point [ahem], Ten Shimoyama's Blood is a different animal altogether and to celebrate its release on DVD we have 4 rather tasty clips for you below. The plot goes something like this...
"Recently demoted within the ranks of the police force for exposing several highly respected officials involved in a political scandal, Detective Hoshino (Kanji Tsuda) is reduced to investigating long-shelved, unsolved cases just before their respective statutes of limitations expire. His latest assignment leads him to the mansion of a voluptuous, reclusive heiress, Miyako Rozmberk (Aya Sugimoto), to investigate the 14-year-old murder of one of her former maids. After claiming she has already told the police everything she knows concerning the case, Miyako announces to Hoshino that she knows the identity of the man responsible for the killing, identifying him...

I’ve been a fan of director Pearry Reginald Teo ever since I saw his first feature film The Gene Generation in 2007, he followed that up with last years Necromentia - a dark and twisted horror flick that recalls the best of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, that in my opinion even out does Barker (for my review of that film, click here).

Well, well. We reported a while back on the upcoming Wayne Wang directed adaptation of acclaimed novel Snow Flower And The Secret Fan, a film that drew instant attention thanks to star Zhang Ziyi's role requiring nudity. At the time the word was that Zhang was trying to recruit Shu Qi for a key support role, a request Shu turned down officially due to scheduling conflicts though most believe she passed due to the nudity that would also be required of her and a reluctance to return to her Cat III past.
But apparently Gianna Jun (the former Jeon Ji-Hyun) is a little less shy. Though her specific role has not been confirmed, The Chosun Ilbo is reporting that the My Sassy Girl and Blood: The Last Vampire star has joined the cast. Given Jun's international stature I think it's safe to assume that she's not playing a minor role in the film,...

First of all, I haven't seen this film's source material, which is the anime movie of the same name. Now, let's get straight to the point. This vampire action flick could have been way better. However, this film's problem is its short length, the lack of margin of manoeuvre for the cast and its excessive focus on sword fights.
Since the 16th century, Japan has been a feeding ground for demons. They live among mortals by physically passing off as human beings. Now, let's fast forward to the 1970s: Saya (Gianna Jun), the last being of human and vampire extraction on Earth, has lived as a loner for 400 years with one purpose. She seeks to kill all vampires, especially Onigen (Koyuki), the highest ranking and strongest vampire. Besides, Saya works for a secret organization known as "The Council". The latter sends her around the world to kill vampires and then...

'Funny People' Takes The Stage, Tom Hanks Finds His 'Demons' And More, In The DVD Report For Nov. 24
It's hard to believe, but Judd Apatow, the mega-filmmaker who has changed the face of Hollywood comedy, has only directed three films. Having made his mark in television ("Freaks & Geeks," "Larry Sanders") and some screenwriting, Apatow finally exploded into the theatrical world on the back of 2005's "The 40 Year Old Virgin." "Knocked Up" would follow in 2007, and then in 2009, "Funny People," a decidedly more mature comedy that straddled serious dramatic elements. Now arriving on DVD and Blu-ray, will the pic -- which stars Adam Sandler as a dying comedian who mentors younger upstart Seth Rogen -- finally grab a wider fanbase than it found in cinemas?
"Funny People" features a strong audio and video transfer, and comes in both theatrical and unrated versions. Extras are plentiful as well, with the two-disc edition featuring filmmaker commentary, on-set diaries, gag reels, deleted and extended scenes, featurettes on subjects like stand-up, vintage prank...

A handful of this week's releases came out a day early -- on the 23rd instead of the 24th -- but even so, there aren't a lot of familiar names to choose from. The picks of the week are two Blu-rays: My Bloody Valentine (Special Edition) and The Monster Squad (20th Anniversary Edition). If you don't have the tech yet for those, then read on for what you might want to put on your shopping list.
Illustrated film Godkiller releases its second episode on the 24th, and fans of classic horror won't want to miss out on the 1980 slasher Silent Scream. Japanese film lovers have a lot to pick from among Devilman, Ichi 1, and Blood: The Last Vampire (the animated version). Take a few moments to look over the rest -- there's bound to be one hidden gem among them!

I’ve seen quite a few different reviews of this movie before I watched it and it’s difficult when you’re in that situation as you go into it with pre-coceived ideas. My expectations were very low because I hadn’t heard an awful lot of good things about the movie but, I think because of that, it turned out to be a little better than I expected.
Blood: The Last Vampire is directed by Chris Nahon and stars Gianna Jun, Allison Miller, Liam Cunningham, Jj Feild, Koyuki and, believe it or not, Larry Lamb who you’ll recognise from Eastenders and Gavin and Stacey. It’s a story about a young half-vampire, half-human (Jun), left to fight the demons that have invaded the earth. On the surface, Saya is a beautiful 16-year-old, but underneath that youthful exterior hides a tormented soul. When her human father was brutally murdered by Onigen,...

Dramatically over the top yet visually cool, here's the trailer for the upcoming animated feature Dante's Inferno from Starz. Like last year's Dead Space: Downfall , this film serves as a companion piece to Electronic Arts' upcoming video game, itself inspired by Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy." Packed with carnage and brimming with bloodshed, Dante's Inferno follows one man's descent into hell. Apparently, Starz has enlisted a series of directors (behind other animated films like Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire ) to helm different segments as the film's protagonist ventures from one circle of hell to the next. Look for the DVD and Blu-Ray in February.

"Blood: The Last Vampire" fights its way to Blu-ray and DVD November 2. The movie is a slick and stylised English adaptation of the hugely popular cult hit anime series of the same name. The movie is full of blood and gore, so in celebration of this release, we have compiled a short list of some of the bloodiest films to date. Chances are, if you loved these films and relished the blood, then you will love "Blood: The Last Vampire". The name speaks for itself! "Blood: The Last Vampire" (2009) It is clear to see that "Blood: The Last Vampire" sticks true to its gory genre. In many of the scenes, Saya is surrounded by a group of demons. The creativity of their deaths is the winning factor here, for example in one scene she decapitates a demon by throwing a metal grate at it, and...
