“Independence Day” and “Those About To Die” director Roland Emmerich and Marco Weber are developing a live-action TV series based on “Space Nation Online,” the titular Web3 video game at the center of their new transmedia IP company, Space Nation Inc.
Per Space Nation Inc.,”The series will map out the origins of the epic story that began with the recent soft launch of Space Nation Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (Mmorpg) that sends players to a distant star cluster where humanity has settled following Earth’s destruction.”
The series will be developed and executive-produced by Emmerich and Weber.
When it comes to how the “Space Nation” show will be distributed, Weber says “we want to take an approach that fits into the overall philosophy of what we’re doing with the game, with our [in-game] economy” — meaning not developing it for a streamer or network. “We might sell...

Even if you’re not a Halloween person, October means spooky season. It feels like every brand, store, — and yes, every streamer, finds ways to incorporate themes of haunting and horror. Disney+ started early, with the September premiere of “Agatha All Along,” which will air new episodes for the next several weeks. In October, the streamer will debut “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” an expansion of the popular Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” which aired from 2007 to 2012.
And of course Hulu has “Huluween,” a celebration of the scariest titles either premiering on the streamer for the first time or simply highlighted from its existing library. That includes films like “Late Night with the Devil,” the series “Reginald the Vampire,” FX’s “American Horror Stories”, a Halloween specials from “Family Guy” and “Solar Opposites,” a docuseries on witch hunting, and much more.

Exclusive: Spenser Granese (Little Death) has landed a role opposite Kiernan Shipka, Kiefer Sutherland and Krysten Ritter in Stone Cold Fox, the ’80s action thriller marking the directorial debut of Sophie Tabet, on which we were first to report.
The revenge tale watches as the defiant Fox (Shipka) breaks out of an abusive commune in search of her family, but when the queenpin (Ritter) kidnaps her little sister and sends a crooked cop (Sutherland) after her, Fox has no choice but to infiltrate the very place she escaped.
Granese plays Ricky, the devious right-hand man to Ritter’s villainous Goldie. A man who loves the sound of his own laugh, Ricky is famous for doing Goldie’s bidding, namely kidnapping Shipka’s younger sister and taking her back to their seedy commune, setting the film’s plot in motion.

Wes Craven's 1977 film "The Hills Have Eyes," like Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" before it, features a vanload of city folks who find themselves waylaid in a forgotten corner of the American wasteland. In Craven's film, the wasteland is not rural Texas, but the irradiated deserts of Nevada. The protagonists (Dee Wallace is among them) are beset by the brood of the sadistic Papa Jupiter (James Whitworth), including Mars (Lance Gordon), Mercury (Arthur King), and Pluto (Michael Berryman). Years ago, Jupiter moved into the hills with his wife (Cordy Clark) and raised their children to attack and cannibalize passers-through in order to survive. "The Hills Have Eyes" is raw and brutal, but possessed of a winking sense of humor that horror fans will appreciate.
The original film only cost about $700,000 to make (although the actual budget isn't very well recorded), yet it went on to make over $25 million,...

Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. I’m here to discuss the true black sheep of this inbred mountain family and give you all a look at the movie that is not a remake of the sequel but rather a sequel to the remake. After his 1972 debut "The Last House on the Left," Wes Craven wanted to break away from the horror genre. But try as he might, Craven could not find anyone to finance a non-horror project. Producers wanted more thrills and chills from the filmmaker, and so Craven relented. The result was 1977's "The Hills Have Eyes," a nasty little movie in which a group of cannibals torments a suburban family in the Nevada desert. The film was a box office hit and spawned a sequel, a remake, and a sequel to the remake. Let's take a look at the franchise as we rank "The Hills Have Eyes" movies from worst to best.

The Hills Have Eyes 3 is not confirmed, but given the cult-following success of The Hills Have Eyes and the potential for streaming services to revive old horror movies, it could happen in the future. The cast of The Hills Have Eyes 3 would likely feature new actors to bring a fresh perspective to the series, with names like Rebecca Ferguson, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jenna Ortega being potential options. The story of The Hills Have Eyes 3 would likely follow the plot lines of the previous movies, involving mutant families in the hills kidnapping travelers and breeding with them. A new filmmaker could bring fresh ideas and improve upon the previous sequels.
The Hills Have Eyes 3 news has been virtually nonexistent since the 2006 reboot and its 2007 sequel released — but if the 2020s have proved anything, it's that time is no factor when it comes to once-thought-forgotten franchises returning for a new entry. The Hills Have Eyes...

Peacock may have the largest cache of Halloween goodies, none more tasty than the latest installment of that most seasonally-appropriate of franchises, Halloween Kills. It debuts on October 15 on Peacock and in theaters.

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.
Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. October is also a big month for Batman and Superman with Man of Steel arriving on Oct. 1 along with a whole of animated specials dropping that same day.
In relation to the library titles, this isn’t HBO Max’s strongest month from an original perspective. But there is still plenty to like here. The West Wing election special arrives on Oct. 15. That will be followed by David Byrne...

HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by an anonymous source. Direct: Jared Cohn. Writer: Paul Logan. Cast: Paul Logan, Bill Moseley, Vernon Wells and Costas Mandylor. From the director of Bikini Spring Break (2012) and Hulk Blood Tapes (2015) comes Jared Cohn's The Horde. The screenplay, via first time scriptwriter Paul Logan, is steeped in action and horror elements. Set for a coming-soon release through Video-on-demand, The Horde is a blend of other cannibals films, from the past. The film is also heavily focused on martial arts action elements. Meanwhile, one's gag reflex might be provoked by all of the limb and tongue cutting. The Horde is one horrifying camping and photography adventure gone very awry. The Horde is reminiscent of a number of other films. This film viewer was most reminded of The Hills Have Eyes II (2007) as the military confronts a family of inbreeding cannibals.

Jessica Stroup (Ted, The Hills Have Eyes 2) has been cast as Joy Meachum in the upcoming Iron Fist series. Tom Pelphrey (Banshee) will be playing her brother Ward. This is a slight alteration from the comic, in which Ward was Joy’s uncle (but I’m sure Marvel will have all that figured out by the time filming starts).
They will be joining Game Of Thrones alumni Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick when production starts this month.
Will Iron Fist fans be bothered by the change up in character roles (Ward Meachum)? Will Marvel's Iron Fist stay true to its mystical roots and bring magic into the mostly “grounded” Marvel Television?
What do you think? Let us know.

Joining Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing and David Wenham as Harold Meachum in Iron Fist will be Jessica Stroup (90210, The Following, The Hills Have Eyes 2) and Tom Pelphrey (Banshee, Homefront, Blue Bloods) as Danny's childhood acquaintances, Joy and Ward Meachum. In the comics, Joy believes Iron Fist murdered her father and teams up with her Uncle Ward to take him down. The duo will be siblings in the TV series, however. Here is how they'll factor into the story: The children of Harold Meachum (Wenham), Joy and Ward have spent their lives building Rand Enterprises to its current standing in the world, only to have all their work put in jeopardy when Danny returns to claim his birthright. They are childhood acquaintances of Danny Rand’s who now play an important role in Rand Enterprises. Iron Fist is set to commence production very soon.

Beloved horror filmmaker Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Hills Have Eyes II, Scream) is working with Universal Cable Productions to produce content for NBCUniversal and affiliated networks, Deadline reports. At Syfy, Craven is set to write and direct author Daryl Gregory’s dark fiction We Are All Completely Fine. Gregory’s story is about an experimental psychologist with a support group for survivors of “horror-movie” scenarios. As one might expect, the group therapy sessions stir up old demons and traumas. This story is an exploration of harm, damage, and survival, and it crosses fantasy, horror, and mystery genres. All of this make it ideal for Craven’s innovative and imaginative horror style.
Also at Syfy, Craven will executive produce a series adaption of his 1991 movie The People Under The Stairs. In the 1991 film, a young unfortunate boy gets trapped inside the home of his family’s evil...

FrightFest 2014 had relocated to the larger venue of Vue West End for its 15th annual outing, and was as full of original horror as always: everything from living room furnishings to sex aids used to scare viewers. "The Last Showing", shot in only three weeks' worth of nightshoots in a Manchester cinema, features horror-legend Robert Englund as Stuart, a staff member fired earlier in the day from his longterm job as a projectionist, and put in charge of customers' snacks instead. Humiliated by a prospective career of shovelling popcorn and pouring fizzy drinks, he starts to plan revenge after all, he's seen enough gory deaths on the job, hasn't he? So there's an unexpected night planned for both the brash young manager who demoted him and the loved-up young couple who come up for a midnight screening of classic "The Hills Have Eyes II"....

A comedy improv troupe. Here on Fearnet? Yes, for realsies. When it is headed up by Derek Mears, damn straight we want to know what is going on. Fearnet readers will know Derek best as Jason Voorhees from the 2009 Friday the 13th remake - or any one of a number of monster roles in films and TV shows like Sleepy Hollow, The Hills Have Eyes II, and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. But he is a classically trained improv comedian who performs with a Los Angeles group called The Resistance.
Describing themselves as the "man band for improv," The Resistance takes suggestions from the audience, then launch into an hour-long improvised action movie based on the suggestions. The night Fearnet visited they performed a creature feature starring an eeltopus (played by a jump rope).
For more info on The Resistance, and to buy tickets to their show, visit ComedySportzLA.

First impressions are everything, which is why the art of the movie trailer has become the most vital tool in the film industry. A bad trailer can sour you on the best movie, but most of the time it’s the other way around. If Hollywood does anything right, it’s selling us a slow-cooked turd as delicious chocolate.
So here are Dread Central’s picks for great horror movie trailers that overshadowed their lesser films:
The Hills Have Eyes 2
Exciting trailers for bad movies are a dime a dozen, but what about the ones that are shot just for marketing? You won’t find a better example of an ad eclipsing a film than the brilliant teaser for The Hills Have Eyes 2. Completely wordless with only the sounds of dragging bodies and Devendra Banhart’s “Insect Eyes,” the teaser showed more artistry and directorial flare than anything in the actual movie.

Every few years comes a media blowup about a crowd of kids and parents attending a screening of a G or PG-rated family film, only to be accidentally screened several minutes of something explicit or obscene.
A "Megamind" screening in 2010 saw a bunch of kids accidentally watching scenes from "Saw 3D". Most memorably, a screening of "The Last Mimzy" in 2007 began with the gory opening of "The Hills Have Eyes 2" in which a chained woman graphically gives birth to a mutant baby born of the irradiated cannibals who raped her.
Nowhere near as extreme as that comes reports today that kids at a screening of Disney's "Frozen" in Tampa Bay, Florida were exposed to "explicit sexual content" that ran for several minutes that was played before the film began.
The cinema was reportedly having technical difficulties and suddenly began playing the offending footage forcing parents to cover the eyes and ears of their children.

Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.

Even if you're not as smitten with "The Twilight Saga" as the legions of screaming tweens around the country currently skipping school to see "Breaking Dawn – Part 1," the movie might be worth checking out just for the bananas birth scene at the film's end. Young Bella Swan, impregnated with Edward Cullen's vampire seed, goes into labor, and when a scalpel can't penetrate the placenta and unleash the bloodsucking fetus, her hubby starts noshing on her tummy. The whole scene is bloody and campy and ridiculous and, while not exactly worth the price of admission, is undoubtedly one of the most memorably nuts movie sequences of 2011.
In this way, the "Breaking Dawn" childbirth joins a long and occasionally venerable list of gruesome movie birth scenes. Read about some of them below.

We don't know about you guys, but we still have a bad taste in our mouths from The Hills Have Eyes II. A movie that bad tends to linger sometimes like the rancid stench of a fart that just won't go away. Still, everyone deserves a second chance, and that's exactly what the director of the crap-fest will be getting.
According to Variety Safady Entertainment is launching development of supernatural thriller Dreamt with Martin Weisz attached to direct.

"Derek Mears is the nicest man in horror." The above quote was said directly to me by Nick Principe (Laid to Rest, Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2) at Rock and Shock about his fellow twin tower, Derek Mears ... but we'll get back to that.
Doctor Gash's Tip of the Scalpel tribute has gone to some iconic figures in horror: Robert Englund, Bill Moseley, and Kane Hodder to name some of the initial recipients. However, the Tip of the Scalpel was not meant to be a simple rehashing of all our favorite horror icons. I certainly wanted to keep the door open for the newer faces of the genre to be recognized, especially when working on a new project or doing something outstanding. Enter Derek Mears.
