Plot: Boston Detective Frank Shaw returns to duty after a career-altering injury leaves him with permanent hearing loss. Tasked with interpreting for Ava Fremont (Sandra Mae Frank), a deaf witness to a brutal gang murder, they find themselves cornered in a soon-to-be-condemned apartment building when the killers return to eliminate her. Cut off from the outside world; these two strangers must lean on each other to outsmart killers they can’t hear coming for their only hope of making it out alive.
Review: Joel Kinnaman has a trend going on these days with his role selection. After starring in last year’s John Woo action flick Silent Night, in which he portrayed a man who loses the ability to speak and goes on a vengeance-fueled rampage, Kinnaman is next headlining The Silent Hour, in which he plays a man who loses the ability to hear. While Silent Night benefited from...

"Will you catch them?" Republic Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for a crime thriller film titled The Silent Hour, the latest from filmmaker Brad Anderson. This action thriller will debut in theaters and on VOD starting in October if anyone's curious, without showing up at any festivals either. The film follows a hearing impaired police detective who works as an interpreter for the department and must confront a team of corrupt cops trying to eliminate a deaf murder witness who lives alone in an apartment building. "Cut off from the outside world, these two strangers must lean on each other to outsmart killers they can’t hear coming for their only hope of making it out alive." Starring Joel Kinnaman along with Sandra Mae Frank, Mekhi Phifer, Michael Eklund, and Mark Strong. This looks so cheap & derivative, it's sad they still keep making more of these. // Continue Reading ›...

Milla Jovovich returns to the genre she knows so well with World Breaker. She stars opposite Luke Evans from Fast & Furious 6 and Dracula Untold. Brad Anderson is in the director’s chair for this science-fiction film. Anderson is known for such bleak projects as Session 9, The Machinist (which famously had Christian Bale lose a scary amount of weight prior to playing Batman) and Transsiberian. He has been dabbling in TV over the recent years, having directing for shows like Titans, The Man in the High Castle and Peacemaker.
The synopsis for World Breaker, according to Deadline, reads,
“Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe while he prepares her for survival and the battles to come. But when the world is about to break,...

“I Cassamortari,” the first title of the saga, was streamed in 2022 in Italy by Amazon Prime Video, described as an Amazon Exclusive production.
Written by Mary Estella Brugiati and Alessandro Bosi, “Ari-Cassamortari” (“Funeral Family 2”), the second delivery, is currently in post.

Antonia Nava, producer and sales chief on Brad Anderson’s “The Machinist” and “Transsiberian” when she headed up Filmax Intl. for over 10 years, is returning to the sales arena, joining forces with Spain-based sales agent Liliana Bravo to launch Neo Art Intl., a new division of Nava’s Barcelona-based Neo Arte Producciones.
Nava and Bravo, a specialist in film festivals, will serve as co-presidents of sales.
The move comes as Nava has also opened a production services operation at Neo Art. They look to leverage Spain’s muscular shoot incentives inaugurated in 2023, which offer an up-to-70% deduction rate in Bizkaia and €18 million ($19.2 million) rebates per TV episode shot in the Canary Islands.
The Swedish-born Natalia Villalon has also joined Neo Arte to lead advertising and branding, services and co-productions for Scandinavia.

Brad Anderson, a director whose credits include Session 9 and The Call, was recently hired to direct the zombie film Twilight of the Dead, which is based on a treatment left behind by the great George A. Romero when he passed away in 2017. Twilight of the Dead is expected to start filming in Puerto Rico by the end of this year – and Deadline reports that Anderson has already lined up the project he’ll be making after he works with Romero zombies. It’s a sci-fi action creature feature called Worldbreaker, which The Exchange will be presenting to potential international distributors at the upcoming American Film Market.
Scripted by Joshua Rollins (Infinite Storm), Worldbreaker has the following synopsis: Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Vampirism has been treated as a metaphor for more prosaic addictions in movies before. In “Blood,” however, it’s one more hassle a recovering addict doesn’t need added to the burdens of her already discordant family life. Starring Michelle Monaghan as a mother just out of rehab whose young son gets bitten — then develops an insatiable appetite for the titular fluid — Brad Anderson’s film steers a middle course between dysfunctional domestic drama and supernatural horror. That balance doesn’t completely work. But solid performances and some strong, occasionally unpleasant content make this an involving if not entirely satisfying watch. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to limited U.S. theaters this Friday, then On Demand platforms Jan. 31.

, Brad Anderson’s “Fractured” isn’t the first modern riff on “The Lady Vanishes” — not even close — but it’s one of the few that finds a compelling new backdrop for that Agatha Christie-esque tale of conspiracy and gaslighting. Whereas a film like “Flightplan” merely elevated Alfred Hitchcock’s locomotive mystery onto an airplane, “Fractured” sews the story into the knotted fabric of the American healthcare system, a curious wrinkle that helps to endow some (very) familiar beats with a fresh palette of anxieties.
“What if a random old woman disappeared on a train?” is now “what if someone’s wife and daughter were digested into the bowels of an understaffed hospital, any evidence of their existence hidden beneath the layers of payments, paperwork, and insurance legalese that drive people in this country to the brink of madness every day?” Alas, the script (by “Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever” scribe...

Avatar star Sam Worthington headlines Fractured, a Netflix movie with a mind-bending mystery.
Fractured is part of a slate of fall season horror (and horror-adjacent) film offerings from Netflix; in this case, a mystery movie brandishing a tinge of Twilight Zone-esque themes that question the reality of its embattled protagonist played by headliner Sam Worthington.
Indeed, the film found an appropriate helmer in The Machinist director Brad Anderson, providing a rather appropriate thematic juxtaposition to the morosely surreal 2004 thriller, as Worthington plays a man who, upon the disappearance of his wife and young daughter in a hospital emergency room, discovers that their existence has seemingly been erased from the memories and records of the staff.

"Why would I have my daughter's scarf, but not her?" Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a mystery thriller titled Fractured, the latest from acclaimed American filmmaker Brad Anderson. Driving cross-country, Ray and his wife and daughter stop at a highway rest area where his daughter falls and breaks her arm. After a frantic rush to the hospital and a clash with the check-in nurse, Ray is finally able to get her to a doctor. While his wife and their daughter go downstairs for an Mri scan, Ray, exhausted, passes out in a chair in the lobby. Upon waking up, they have no record or knowledge of Ray's family ever being checked in. Where did they go? What happened to his family!? Sam Worthington stars, with Lily Rabe, Stephen Tobolowsky, Adjoa Andoh, Stephanie Sy, Lucy Capri, Lauren Cochrane, and Erik Athavale. Looks alright, I'm curious to find out what's up.

Brad Anderson, this director behind films such as Session 9, The Machinist, and Transsiberian, has a new film project he’s developing that sounds interesting. It’s called In Search of Captain Zero, and it seems like a very different kind of film from anything that the filmmaker has made before.
The movie is based on a book of the same name by Allan Weisbecker, and it tells the true-life story of how, in 1996, "the author sold his home and possessions, loaded his dog and surfboards into his truck, “and set off in search of his best friend and long-time surfing companion Christopher, who had vanished into the depths of Central America.”
According to Deadline, casting is underway, and it’s being eyed as “a strong two-hander, with a spring 2020 start date in the works.” Here’s the description of the story from the book, which sounds like a pretty incredible...

Espionage thrillers have it rough these days, what with contemporary headlines beating anything Hollywood can cook up. Still, Beirut has an undeniable retro appeal: It's 1982 in Lebanon, the eve of Israel's invasion. A hostage situation is pulling Mason Skiles (Jon Hamm), a former U.S. diplomat in Beirut, back into a spycraft shitstorm he'd practically kill to avoid. He's been mediating low-level labor disputes in Boston, spending his spare time in bars using booze to blast away memories of what happened to him on the job a decade before.

Planning some light viewing on Sunday? If so, beware: not all movies tagged with ‘mother’ on streaming sites are entirely family-friendly
We’ve all been there: you type “Transsiberian” into a streaming service once and spend the next three weeks fighting off the Transformers franchise. Botched film recommendations have been a thing since the VHS era. Remember the episode of One Foot in the Grave when Victor Meldrew discovers Mrs Warboys is a Mork & Mindy fan and accidentally rents Alien? Given the prevalence of the “because you watched …” algorithm, here are seven films tagged “mother” that should be avoided at all costs this Sunday. Do not add to basket, and be prepared to lunge for the remote should mum’s thumb hover over play. Caution: spoilers.

How’s this for a pairing? Nicolai Fuglsig has lined found two leads in Michael Shannon and Chris Hemsworth for his directorial debut, Deadline reports. Jerry Bruckheimer and Black Label Media will produce the film, which is titled Horse Soldiers. Based on a true story and adapted by Peter Craig and Ted Tally from a book penned by Dough Staton, Horse Soldiers follows a U.S. special forces team sent to Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11, led by a captain untested in the field. The team was tasked with joining forces with a local Warload to drive out the Taliban, an effort that proved much harder than anticipated. Bruckheimer stated his excitement over the project, saying “I am so happy that we’re finally getting this great project off the ground with wonderful leading actors, Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon. Brad Anderson (Session 9) has a new film project lined up called Fate, which he will direct from a script by Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
According to Deadline, the story follows a character named Virgil who is described as "a man on the edge, all too familiar with the back alleys of Hong Kong." They go on to reveal that, "His life, or what’s left of it, is turned upside down when he is approached by a mysterious woman seeking his help. "
That's all we have to share about the film so far, and the story could go in any direction from there. I'm a fan of Anderson. He really impressed me with his psychological horror thriller Session 9, and since then he's made films such as The Machinist, Transsiberian, The Call, and Stonehearst Asylum.
I really hope that this next film of his is good.

There aint nothing undead that can't be made undeader. That appears to be the guiding principal behind Emilis Velyvis' Guardians Of The Night, a bit of Underworld meets Night Watch action-horror out of Russia. The story is familiar enough - a courier stumbles across the reality of supernatural creatures hidden in plain sight in Moscow and is recruited by the organization tasked with keeping them under control - so it's really all about execution. And Velyvis - who, as an interesting side note, actually had a bit part as an actor in Brad Anderson's Transsiberian - seems pretty solid on that front. We ran a first teaser for this one back in April and it has now been followed by a full trailer, with English...

It doesn't seem coincidental that The Man in the High Castle's best episode yet was shot by James Hawkinson, the visual artist who turned Hannibal into one of television's most striking shows, and directed by Brad Anderson, the filmmaker behind Session 9, Transsiberian and The Machinist. The writing and performances were top-notch in this episode, but I don't think it would be as much of a success without Hawkinson's visual fluency and Anderson's confident hand."Truth" begins where the last episode left off: Smith (Rufus Sewell) has caught Joe (Luke Kleintank) rifling through the folders in his home office. As Smith stands in the doorway, he expresses his disappointment in a deeply menacing way. He orders Joe to tell him everything that happened in Canon City: "Truth time. Tell me about the girl." Sony Pictures has hired Brad Anderson to direct a new action thriller called Shadow Run. I’m a big fan of Anderson’s past work, which includes The Machinist, Session 9, and Transsiberian. The guy is a talented filmmaker who is good with the characters and stories he tells. He has also worked on TV series such as The Wire, Fringe, Boardwalk Empire, and The Killing.
Shadow Run comes from a spec script by Joe Gazzam. The story begins when "a viral attack puts lives in danger, forcing a CIA agent to enact a secret prisoner exchange: Russia’s most notorious spy for the American scientist who can create a cure.”
Anderson recently helmed The Call, which starred Halle Berry, as well as last month’s Stonehearst Asylum, starring Kate Beckinsale. I’m looking forward to seeing how this new project of his pans out. I think Marvel needs to...

Jason Reitman is in desperate need of a career bump. His last two films, Labor Day and Men, Women, and Children, felt like they were made my someone who did not know why he was making them. This is shame coming from the guy who made Up in the Air, which I rewatched recently and is still vibrant and specific. Thankfully, Reitman will be stepping back into dramedy territory with I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family, based on a rather unusual Texas Monthly article. The story follows a Texas family who pull off two rather impressive bank heists. Nick Hornby (An Education, Wild) will come on to pen the screenplay. Jason's poppa Ivan Reitman will produce the film. The two have not worked together since Up in the Air, so hopefully, they can create that same magic once again with this film. Reitman is in need of some quality.

Sony has just signed The Machinist‘s Brad Anderson to direct Shadow Run, the action thriller script by writer Joe Gazzam (Cliffhanger, Replay) that the studio picked up in February. The Bourne-esque spy tale is produced by Neil Moritz for Original Film and exec produced by Hernany Perla; Michael De Luca and Andrea Giannetti will oversee for Sony. Anderson, who broke out with the Christian Bale starrer The Machinist and has notched features Transsiberian, The Call, and the recent Stonehearst Aslum in recent years, has also been directing for TV on shows including The Wire, Fringe, Boardwalk Empire, and The Killing. Anderson recently helmed the pilot for Forever for ABC, WB TV, and Lin Pictures. He’s repped by Wme, Lbi Entertainment and Sloss Law.

Despite a cast that includes Ben Kingsley, Michael Caine, and Kate Beckinsale, and a noteworthy director in Brad Anderson, Stonehearst Asylum feels like a high-class 1970s TV movie. Anderson remains in my mind as a director of independent genre movies like Session 9 (2001), The Machinist (2004), and Transsiberian (2008), but he transitioned (mainly) to television years ago. That's not entirely a bad thing; Anderson's recent credits as producer and director include the enjoyable science-fiction shows Fringe and Almost Human. Yet it's a reminder that even an experienced helmer and a game cast cannot make up for an anemic script. Adapted by Joe Gangemi from Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether," first published in 1845, Stonehearst Asylum moves...

Crazy in Love: Anderson’s Gothic Sprinkled Romance Deserves to be Tarred and Feathered
Fresh off the surprise box office success of 2013’s Halle Berry headlined The Call, director Brad Anderson returns to the creepy confines of the mental ward with Stonehearst Asylum, reminiscent of his well received 2001 film, Session 9. Assembling another terrific cast for this period piece, those familiar with a fine tradition of Gothic cinema will immediately begin to pick up on the threads of Edgar Allan Poe that inspired the macabre switcheroo generating the dramatic conflict. But even before we get to that point, Anderson’s latest arrives Doa, a cold, tepid turkey that isn’t ever sure of the mood it wishes to generate. Scenes fluctuate rapidly, and we’re left to decide whether this is supposed to be a prim and proper brooding romance of stiff corsets and constricted consecrations, a downright queasy...

After last week’s news about Netflix securing The Blacklist for a record fee, a similar story came to light this week concerning the pre Batman prequel series Gotham. Now rather than getting it day and date after Us broadcast as per Breaking Bad and From Dusk Till Dawn, Gotham’s entire run will just arrive on Netflix after it’s finished its TV broadcast. Worse news is that this means you have to wait for Channel 5 to get their finger out and schedule it on one of their three channels and then muck it around the schedule just to confuse you further and for it to finish its run there. Kind of takes the wind out the sails doesn’t it? I wouldn’t expect to see Gotham on Netflix until this time next year at best but we will see.

On October 24th, a star-studded cast is going to take you on a very strange trip through Stonehearst Asylum. Kate Beckinsale, Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Brendan Gleeson, and Jim Sturgess are all residing within the walls of the Asylum (along with several other notable cast members), and as we venture inside with a young Doctor, we’re going to find out that nothing is as it seems, and it’s a tricky affair to figure out just who the crazy people are.
While everything about the general idea of this one might not have everyone pre-ordering their tickets, there is more than meets the eye at play behind-the-scenes as well. It’s based on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, just to start, and you’ve got to wonder how we got all these names attached to a project, if there wasn’t something very cool going on with the screenplay.

Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley have teamed up with "The Machinist" and "Transsiberian" director Brad Anderson on the Edgar Allan Poe short story adaptation "Stonehearst Asylum" (previously titled "Eliza Graves").
Sturgess plays a med school grad who takes a position at mental asylum where things aren't what they seem, the inmates and the doctors seem equally crazy leading him on a hunt to learn the truth.
The film is scoring a same day VOD & theatrical run on October 24th and today the first poster and trailer for it have been released.
