You've teamed up with Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden once again for Lady Baltimore: The Daughters of Medusa. What excited you the most about this new story when you first read the script?

Bridgit Connell: So when talking about writing this next arc, Chris asked me what I would want to draw in Sofia's story, and I had been really drawn to gorgons at the time, so I mentioned it. I had an itch to draw something along those lines, and...

Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson novel, "The Lightning Thief," was first published in 2005, riding on a wave of ultra-popular young adult fantasy literature that persists to this day. One can easily see that the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" books lift a lot of ideas from J.K. Rowling's blockbuster Harry Potter novels and follow a lot of the same story beats. Both were about young men who, while living unhappy lives among the hoi polloi, discover they actually possess royal blood. Their previously unknown lineages allow them access to worlds of magic and/or deities, which they are able to explore through either a wizards' boarding school (in Harry Potter) or a demigod summer camp (in Percy Jackson).

Two different Kraken movies are on the way here in 2025, with the Norwegian horror movie Kraken set to unleash the mythical beast soon. And then there’s the same-titled Kraken (Кракен), a Russian monster movie that will tread into similar waters later this year.

The Russian-made Kraken will be released in its native country in April, with no word yet on a U.S. release date for either this movie or the aforementioned Norwegian take on the Kraken.

Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Last May, we learned that he’ll be directing and producing the film 11817, working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm. That same month, it was announced that Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love) and Greta Lee (Past Lives) would be starring in the film… but now it looks like Ben-Adir has had to drop out, with Wagner Moura (Civil War) stepping in as his replacement.

Greta Lee (“Past Lives”) and Wagner Moura (“Civil War”) are set to star in Louis Leterrier’s Sci-Fi Thriller “11817” for Netflix.

Leterrier is directing from a script written by Matthew Robinson.

“11817” follows a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and they must work to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.

“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” Leterrier previously said in a statement. “It’s what excites me about ‘11817’s’ wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”

One of the main upsides of streaming is its ability to give unpopular, forgotten, or maligned movies a new lease of life. A good example is the action-packed "Clash of the Titans" remake becoming a hit on Max 14 years after it was released to negative critical reviews. Last year, horror crossover "Freddy vs. Jason" also rose from the dead on Max, two decades after the movie first slashed its way into theaters. And now one of 2024's worst horror movies, "The Front Room," is storming up Max's charts.

According to data obtained by FlixPatrol, A24's "The Front Room" is currently the second most-watched movie on the streaming service, right behind Clint Eastwood's "Juror #2." Directed by the Eggers Brothers, the horror-comedy tells the story of a married woman who must protect her newborn child from her wicked mother-in-law -- a religious zealot who insists on imposing her values on everyone.

If Los Angeles wasn’t under enough turmoil, over in Burbank, two lynchpins at Warner Bros are simultaneously exiting the studio: Warner Bros. Global Marketing czar Josh Goldstine and International Distribution boss Andrew Cripps.

The David Zaslav-run Warner Bros Discovery has been infamous for cuts, but the departures of Goldstine and Cripps is pretty rattling, prompting Wtf reactions from rival executives around town. Still, we hear, this was a difficult decision all around for both Goldstine, Cripps and Warner Bros.

What’s going on?

Per Warner Bros Motion Picture chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy today: “In building for the future, we have made the decision to realign our business unit with a singular global operation at its center to offer greater alignment for all our team members in the years ahead.”

As a result, longtime Warner Bros Domestic Distribution president Jeff Goldstein is now overseeing Global Distribution for the studio.

Post Christmas Warner Bros is busy making release date changes for next year before it rings in and beyond. The most prolific move is that Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel is heading from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027. Production isn’t scheduled to get started until late summer and with a VFX heavy sequel such as this one, a fall 2026 theatrical release is within reach. The Reeves’ movie will have Imax screens.

Funny enough, Warner Bros always had the first weekend of October 2027 staked out for a DC title.

Reeves’ The Batman was the first fire-breathing theatrical release for Warner Bros. post Covid after implementing a day-and-date release strategy on Max; the movie making $369.3M domestic, $772M WW. The feature spawned a Max series, The Penguin, the third-most-watched HBO or Max debut season around the world following The House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.

I recently saw a friend in a play about Robin Hood. They performed on a small outdoor stage in the middle of a park, acting with minimal sets and costumes. Still, it was an engaging, funny play, and it even made me a little verklempt to think about the fact that humans have been dressing up in parks to tell each other stories of Robin Hood for hundreds of years. The 73-year-old actor was joined by wife Lisa Rinna and his son Dimitri Hamlin at the season two premiere of his AMC series Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches on Thursday night (December 5) held at The Masonic Lodge at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

The two are forced to run and fight for their lives against the mobsters as well as the NYPD who are determined to catch and kill the pair.

Despite the modest reviews from critics regarding the plot of Run All Night, some reviews praised the performances of the leading cast. Greg Hildebrandt, the admired artist and illustrator who created movie posters for the original Star Wars and Clash of the Titans, drew Marvel characters and designed iconic 1970s calendars that celebrated the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died. He was 85.

Hildebrandt died in Denville, New Jersey, his son, Greg Jr., told The Hollywood Reporter. For the past five months, he had been dealing with a serious side effect from a heart medication.

The artist, who frequently partnered with his late twin brother, Tim Hildebrandt, also illustrated covers for DC Comics and trading cards for an epic 1994 Marvel Masterpieces set; painted artwork for Dungeons & Dragons calendars; and designed covers for the 1981 Black Sabbath album Mob Rules and many LPs from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Without having access to film stills and publicity photos and given a very tight deadline by 20th Century Fox, the brothers painted the “Style B” poster for the U.

The fantasy genre has come a long way in recent years, but the classic movies of the 1980s bring an unparalleled sense of magic and wonder. Of course, these films can't compete with modern Hollywood in the way of special effects. On-screen battle scenes didn't look as realistic as they do in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, and animatronic dragons of the 1980s are nowhere near as convincing as Game of Thrones. Still, these campy and cheesy 1980s fantasy movies possess a certain flavor that modern technology could never duplicate.

It’s a sad day today for film and television fans. Dame Maggie Smith, known to many for her portrayal of Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter franchise and as Violet Crawley in “Downton Abbey,” has passed away at the age of 89.

Her sons Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens issued this statement to the Daily Mail via a publicist.

“It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September.

An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Manhunt", Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett) hitches a ride on the Enterprise-d, partly to visit her daughter Deanna (Marina Sirtis), but mostly to flirt with Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). Her flippant demeanor allowed her to solve mysteries without thinking about it, and her stories tended to be personally dramatic rather than highfalutin sci-fi.

Near the beginning of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi flick "The Empire Strikes Back," the psychic rebel warrior Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is riding alone through the snowy drifts of the distant planet Hoth, mounted on the back of a bipedal beast of burden called a tauntaun. He is on the lookout for any sign of the Empire, hunting the rebels after the destruction of their superweapon, the Death Star. Rather suddenly, Luke is attacked by a wampa, a humanoid yeti native to the planet. The wampa kills the tauntaun, claws Luke, and drags the hapless rebel back to its lair, presumably to be eaten.

The wampa is only seen in flashes. Luke sees a roaring face for a split second and a waving claw. For the 1997 Special Edition of "The Empire Strikes Back" — a notorious re-release that remastered and reworked most of the effects shots — a full-bodied shot of the wampa was included.
