"Can Lady Baltimore defeat the monster without becoming one herself?" Lady Baltimore: The Daughters of Medusa is the next chapter in the Outerverse Universe of books, due out on April 30th from Dark Horse Comics. Mike Mignola and his Outerverse co-creator Christopher Golden re-team with artist Bridgit Connell for the latest Lady Baltimore adventure, and we caught up with Connell to discuss the new two-part comic book event series:
You've teamed up with Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden once again for Lady Baltimore: The Daughters of Medusa. What excited you the most about this new story when you first read the script?
Bridgit Connell: So when talking about writing this next arc, Chris asked me what I would want to draw in Sofia's story, and I had been really drawn to gorgons at the time, so I mentioned it. I had an itch to draw something along those lines, and...

Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson novel, "The Lightning Thief," was first published in 2005, riding on a wave of ultra-popular young adult fantasy literature that persists to this day. One can easily see that the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" books lift a lot of ideas from J.K. Rowling's blockbuster Harry Potter novels and follow a lot of the same story beats. Both were about young men who, while living unhappy lives among the hoi polloi, discover they actually possess royal blood. Their previously unknown lineages allow them access to worlds of magic and/or deities, which they are able to explore through either a wizards' boarding school (in Harry Potter) or a demigod summer camp (in Percy Jackson).
Both Potter and Jackson also have to face off against intergenerational enemies that are directly linked to their absent parents; with Potter, it was a wizard named Voldemort, and with Jackson,...

Two different Kraken movies are on the way here in 2025, with the Norwegian horror movie Kraken set to unleash the mythical beast soon. And then there’s the same-titled Kraken (Кракен), a Russian monster movie that will tread into similar waters later this year.
The Russian-made Kraken will be released in its native country in April, with no word yet on a U.S. release date for either this movie or the aforementioned Norwegian take on the Kraken.
While you wait for more, watch the trailer for Russia’s Kraken below.
The film was directed by Nikolai Lebedev.
In the Cold War-set Kraken, “A Russian missile submarine disappears without a trace during a secret mission in the Greenland Sea. Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Last May, we learned that he’ll be directing and producing the film 11817, working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm. That same month, it was announced that Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love) and Greta Lee (Past Lives) would be starring in the film… but now it looks like Ben-Adir has had to drop out, with Wagner Moura (Civil War) stepping in as his replacement.

Greta Lee (“Past Lives”) and Wagner Moura (“Civil War”) are set to star in Louis Leterrier’s Sci-Fi Thriller “11817” for Netflix.
Leterrier is directing from a script written by Matthew Robinson.
“11817” follows a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and they must work to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.
“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” Leterrier previously said in a statement. “It’s what excites me about ‘11817’s’ wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”
Leterrier is also producing the project along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson for Chernin Entertainment,...

Christopher Nolan always aims big, and his latest project is no exception. Renowned for his mind-bending stories and blockbuster success, Nolan is now bringing Greek mythology to life with The Odyssey.
You know, Homer’s ancient epic—the one that’s about gods, monsters, and Odysseus taking the scenic route home for a decade. Well, Nolan’s tackling it with a film that has a million-dollar price tag. It’s so massive, it makes Interstellar and Oppenheimer feel like indie flicks.
Christopher Nolan
The Odyssey is a “mythic action epic” that’ll use groundbreaking IMAX film technology to bring Homer’s sweeping tale to life. If anyone can pull this off, it’s Nolan. But how does The Odyssey’s budget stack up against Nolan’s past films (Interstellar and Oppenheimer)? Let’s break it down!
What is the budget for The Odyssey?
Let’s not beat around the bush...

One of the main upsides of streaming is its ability to give unpopular, forgotten, or maligned movies a new lease of life. A good example is the action-packed "Clash of the Titans" remake becoming a hit on Max 14 years after it was released to negative critical reviews. Last year, horror crossover "Freddy vs. Jason" also rose from the dead on Max, two decades after the movie first slashed its way into theaters. And now one of 2024's worst horror movies, "The Front Room," is storming up Max's charts.
According to data obtained by FlixPatrol, A24's "The Front Room" is currently the second most-watched movie on the streaming service, right behind Clint Eastwood's "Juror #2." Directed by the Eggers Brothers, the horror-comedy tells the story of a married woman who must protect her newborn child from her wicked mother-in-law -- a religious zealot who insists on imposing her values on everyone.

If Los Angeles wasn’t under enough turmoil, over in Burbank, two lynchpins at Warner Bros are simultaneously exiting the studio: Warner Bros. Global Marketing czar Josh Goldstine and International Distribution boss Andrew Cripps.
The David Zaslav-run Warner Bros Discovery has been infamous for cuts, but the departures of Goldstine and Cripps is pretty rattling, prompting Wtf reactions from rival executives around town. Still, we hear, this was a difficult decision all around for both Goldstine, Cripps and Warner Bros.
What’s going on?
Per Warner Bros Motion Picture chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy today: “In building for the future, we have made the decision to realign our business unit with a singular global operation at its center to offer greater alignment for all our team members in the years ahead.”
As a result, longtime Warner Bros Domestic Distribution president Jeff Goldstein is now overseeing Global Distribution for the studio.

Image Source: Warner Bros. The 1981 action fantasy film Clash of the Titans holds a special place in the hearts of many movie fans. A box office hit upon its release, it later achieved cult classic status, celebrated for its stop-motion effects and nostalgic charm. Decades later, in 2010, a remake starring Sam Worthington and a stellar ensemble cast also proved to be a massive box office success, grossing over $430 million. Even now, over a decade later, the film continues to find new audiences. Before the film’s release, Worthington spoke about the delicate balance of honoring the original while creating a unique experience for a new generation. He aimed to create a film that stood on its own while acknowledging the original. Post Christmas Warner Bros is busy making release date changes for next year before it rings in and beyond. The most prolific move is that Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel is heading from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027. Production isn’t scheduled to get started until late summer and with a VFX heavy sequel such as this one, a fall 2026 theatrical release is within reach. The Reeves’ movie will have Imax screens.
Funny enough, Warner Bros always had the first weekend of October 2027 staked out for a DC title.
Reeves’ The Batman was the first fire-breathing theatrical release for Warner Bros. post Covid after implementing a day-and-date release strategy on Max; the movie making $369.3M domestic, $772M WW. The feature spawned a Max series, The Penguin, the third-most-watched HBO or Max debut season around the world following The House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.

I recently saw a friend in a play about Robin Hood. They performed on a small outdoor stage in the middle of a park, acting with minimal sets and costumes. Still, it was an engaging, funny play, and it even made me a little verklempt to think about the fact that humans have been dressing up in parks to tell each other stories of Robin Hood for hundreds of years. We like to entertain each other, and I think that's neat.
The same goes for Greek mythology. These stories have circulated for millennia, used as moral lessons or to simply pass the time. There's a vast amount of mythology to dive into, but at least in the world of cinema, we tend to tell each other the same few stories over and over again, dressing up in costumes to act out the adventures of Hercules, the trials of Odysseus, or...

A 2009 martial arts movie produced by the Wachowskis is performing well during its run on streaming. The Wachowskis made their directorial debut with the crime thriller Bound in 1996, after penning the screenplay for 1995 Sylvester Stallone movie Assassins. But the siblings shot to global fame when they wrote and directed the 1999 science fiction action film The Matrix starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, and Hugo Weaving. The movie was met with widespread critical acclaim, and is considered a modern classic, as well as one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction films ever made.
Following the unexpected success of The Matrix, the duo wrote and directed The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions (both 2003), as well as expanding The Matrix franchise in the realm of video games and animation. Branching out from the series, they also wrote dystopian action movie V For Vendetta, as well as making sports action-comedy Speed Racer,...

Action movie legend Jason Statham's 2008 sci-fi thriller impresses on its new streaming debut, just four days after switching platforms. Statham shot to fame when he was cast in the role of Bacon in Guy Ritchie's directorial debut, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and paired with him again for a leading role in Snatch. The critical and commercial success of the movies led to him starring in The Transporter trilogy and movies like Crank, The Italian Job remake, Hummingbird, and Safe, further cementing him as one of Hollywood's leading action stars.
Statham has continued to carve out a niche in the action-thriller genre, with a few showings against type, such as a supporting role in the romantic drama London, and a memorable co-starring turn in the action-comedy Spy. Like any streaming service worth its salt, Max updates its selection on a regular basis. On occasion, this provides it with platform-exclusive smash hits. Other times, however, Max introduces an older title that manages to resonate with the streaming-era audiences and rise to a hit status. This has happened to films that range from famous horror crossover movies like "Freddy vs. Jason" to the classic comedy "Christmas Vacation" (which showcases one of Johnny Galecki's earliest roles) -- and now, per FlixPatrol, a truly surprising fantasy title has cracked Max's Top 10 list.

Liam Neeson's $493M mythological epic is moving to a new streaming home come December. For Neeson, 2024 was a busy year chock-full of new projects, including filming the Seth MacFarlane-developed Naked Gun reboot set for release in August 2025. His other projects released in 2024, including Absolution and Wildcat, are awaiting worldwide releases following a limited theatrical run in the United States.
Neeson has built a formidable career with a balance of dramatic gravitas and commanding action roles, from his Oscar-nominated role as Oskar Schindler in Schindlers List to redefining the modern action hero of Bryan Mills in Taken. Neesons ability to captivate viewers across a multitude of genres is impressive. Throughout the 2000s, Neeson added mythological epics to his repertoire, playing larger-than-life roles in films such as Clash of the Titans and Ra's al Ghul in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, among others.

It truly seems like Jack saved Nikki’s life on The Young and the Restless. He shocked her so much by taking pills that even in her drunken state, Nikki managed to realize she had to stop what she was doing. That’s why it really hasn’t made sense why Victor is so ruthless in getting revenge on Jack. However, Victor’s portrayer, Eric Braeden, recently explained what’s going on in his alter ego’s mind.
Revenge
Despite Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) repeatedly telling Victor that Jack (Peter Bergman) helped her during her fall off the wagon, Victor is dead set on revenge. He intends to take Jack Abbott down…again…but perhaps, this time, once and for all. The question is, why would he do this if Jack really saved Nikki and she was able to get sober again after he risked his sobriety to get her attention?...

No studio was going to leave Easter weekend empty.
In the wake of Lionsgate pushing their Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, from April 18 to Oct. 3 next year, Warner Bros. is backfilling with Bong Joon Ho’s Robert Pattinson sci-fi movie Mickey 17; that movie flying from Jan. 31, 2025 to April 18. Warners will have all the Imax screens around the world for the movie. Duly note that Warners always had the Easter frame on hold for an untitled event movie; the studio enjoying big weekends over the holiday frame with movies such as Clash of the Titans, Godzilla X Kong, Ready Player One and the biggest Easter opener of all-time, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($181M).
Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema’s Drew Hancock-directed horror movie Companion previously set for January 10, 2025 is now dated for January 31, 2025. Companion will be released in Imax worldwide.

Greg Hildebrandt, the admired artist and illustrator who created movie posters for the original Star Wars and Clash of the Titans, drew Marvel characters and designed iconic 1970s calendars that celebrated the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died. He was 85.
Hildebrandt died in Denville, New Jersey, his son, Greg Jr., told The Hollywood Reporter. For the past five months, he had been dealing with a serious side effect from a heart medication.
The artist, who frequently partnered with his late twin brother, Tim Hildebrandt, also illustrated covers for DC Comics and trading cards for an epic 1994 Marvel Masterpieces set; painted artwork for Dungeons & Dragons calendars; and designed covers for the 1981 Black Sabbath album Mob Rules and many LPs from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Without having access to film stills and publicity photos and given a very tight deadline by 20th Century Fox, the brothers painted the “Style B” poster for the U.

The fantasy genre has come a long way in recent years, but the classic movies of the 1980s bring an unparalleled sense of magic and wonder. Of course, these films can't compete with modern Hollywood in the way of special effects. On-screen battle scenes didn't look as realistic as they do in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, and animatronic dragons of the 1980s are nowhere near as convincing as Game of Thrones. Still, these campy and cheesy 1980s fantasy movies possess a certain flavor that modern technology could never duplicate.
Of course, nostalgia has a lot to do with why these fantasy movies of yore are still so appealing. Kids of the '80s and '90s didn't care that films like The NeverEnding Story or The Labyrinth used puppets to bring magical beasts to life or that The Secret of Nimh depended on cell animation. Now that...

Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to hit theaters next year, marking the third sequel in one of the world’s biggest franchises. The first movie made history, winning a Golden Globe in 2010 and snagging several Oscars. So, it’s easy to imagine how much the cast, especially lead actor Sam Worthington, has gained from being part of this massive production.
Still from Avatar (Credits: 20th Century Studios)
Also, not many people know that Worthington wasn’t the first choice for the role, but once he landed it, his paycheck was pretty surprising. At the time, the actor wasn’t the biggest name in Hollywood, but interestingly, what he’s earned from Avatar even tops Robert Downey Jr.’s initial salary.

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Manhunt", Betazoid ambassador Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett) hitches a ride on the Enterprise-d, partly to visit her daughter Deanna (Marina Sirtis), but mostly to flirt with Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). It seems that Lwaxana is going through the Betazoid equivalent of menopause, and her libido is skyrocketing. As such, she seems determined to arrive at her destination with a husband in tow, and she doesn't really care who it might be.
Lwaxana Troi is a fun character for "Star Trek," as she is outspoken, charismatic, and tends to flout the buttoned-up formality that Starfleet officers abide by. Barrett played the role on six episodes of "Next Generation," and returned for three episodes of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Her flippant demeanor allowed her to solve mysteries without thinking about it, and her stories tended to be personally dramatic rather than highfalutin sci-fi.

In a time where CGI and other digital technology reign as the kings of cinema special effects, Full Moon Features has released a film with old school SFX and a production timeline nearly half a century-long, spanning from conceptualization to release, with The Primevals.
And this timeline length is no exaggeration. The road to this film’s release began with plot elements used in the 1968 short film Raiders of the Stone Ring by writer-director David Allen (Puppet Master II and The Howling) that evolved into a full-length film script by 1975 and then produced by Charles Band in 1978. Alas, pre-production saw some funding issues surface that postponed the project until filming commenced again in 1994, before finally being completed and released in 2023.
After learning of the existence of Yeti when one is killed in Nepal, Dr. Claire Collier (Juliet Mills) and her student Matt Connor (Richard Joseph Paul) head to the Himalayas to investigate its origin.

Plot: Having long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods, Zeus’ reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the God of Gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct. And he’s right to be worried. Zeus’ one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus, is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure).

In Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi film "Prometheus," a group of astronauts travel to a distant planet, guided there by a series of ancient cave paintings discovered on Earth. It seems that tall, godlike aliens visited Earth many thousands of years ago and left a map that humanity would eventually be able to follow back to their homeworld. It might have taken us several millennia to develop long-range space travel, but we eventually have the wherewithal to follow the map.
Of course, when the astronauts arrive, they find strange, brutal things they can't understand. The tall godlike aliens, which they nickname Engineers, are all dead, having been killed by a menagerie of genetically engineered critters of their own making. Some unusual evidence leads the astronauts to believe the Engineers were preparing to travel to Earth with a cargo of killer monsters, hoping to seed our planet with them and kill us all.

Nearly a quarter of a century ago, Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” took the swords-and-sandals action of previous genre-definers “Spartacus” and “Clash of the Titans” and gave it new life, paving the way for further success in Zach Snyder’s 2007 outing “300” and that forgettable 2016 remake of “Ben-Hur.” It’s a tricky world to adapt, extending beyond the over-the-top energy of brutal combat and chariot races and into the realms of a bygone era’s political, interpersonal, and economics.

With his electric charisma, ageless good looks, and ineffable cool, Jeff Goldblum has been godlike for a long time now. But in The End Of The F***ing World creator Charlie Covell's upcoming Netflix dark comedy series Kaos, which offers up a contemporary twist on Greek mythology, Goldblum gets to be an actual God for the first time. Yes, in Covell's show, which Netflix have now confirmed will premiere on 29 August, Goldblum will be getting to grips with Kaos theory and playing Zeus, who finds himself reconsidering his role as omnipotent King of the Gods when he's confronted by his own mortality — aka, a wrinkle — and a slew of bad omens. Also along for some modern-day myth making are Zeus' wife Hera (Janet McTeer), brothers Hades (David Thewlis) and Poseidon (Cliff Curtis), and his erstwhile son Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwaan). Near the beginning of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi flick "The Empire Strikes Back," the psychic rebel warrior Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is riding alone through the snowy drifts of the distant planet Hoth, mounted on the back of a bipedal beast of burden called a tauntaun. He is on the lookout for any sign of the Empire, hunting the rebels after the destruction of their superweapon, the Death Star. Rather suddenly, Luke is attacked by a wampa, a humanoid yeti native to the planet. The wampa kills the tauntaun, claws Luke, and drags the hapless rebel back to its lair, presumably to be eaten.
The wampa is only seen in flashes. Luke sees a roaring face for a split second and a waving claw. For the 1997 Special Edition of "The Empire Strikes Back" — a notorious re-release that remastered and reworked most of the effects shots — a full-bodied shot of the wampa was included.

In a global box office that’s still licking its wounds from the strike, here’s something to scream about: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the highest grossing movie in the Legendary and Warner Bros Monsterverse franchise at $570M around the world.
That beats previous Monsterverse champ 2017’s Kong Skull Island which stomped to $568.6M. Broken out New Empire‘s grosses are $373.7M abroad and $196.3M domestic. Overall, New Empire is the highest grossing Monsterverse title in 35 markets including Brazil, Colombia, France, India, Indonesia, Mexico and UAE.
Props here to Warner Bros marketing, but also the global distribution team. Realize this: Sony’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was originally on Easter weekend. Then the Culver City lot moved that movie up to March 22. This created a golden opportunity for Warners to step in and take over holy weekend, which has historically been a rich launchpad for the studio with Clash of the Titans,...
