Demons, witches, and devils have been around in religion and life for nearly as long as people have been around. This extends into movies as since the very beginning of motion pictures, we have attempted to capture the fears of these types of fears on film in a number of ways. Most of the media we see on it is built out from existing ideas to create a new narrative that looks to capture the interests of the general public enough to make a profit or base a movie on it. While many people know both the book and movie of The Exorcist, something like The Rite (watch it Here) that more or less came and went in the early 2010s proves that it also has an interesting story to tell. Whether or not you believe in the religious supernatural events found in either the book or the movie, it...

In Eastern Poland in 1939, Irena Gut (Sophie Nélisse) works as a nurse. She's just found out that Poland has been invaded by Germany, and her whole life is about to change. Before she knows it, Irena is ushered away to a munitions factory where she does intensive labor all hours of the day. She's been separated from her mother and sisters and is told her only chance of survival is to assist the German war effort.
Impressed by her "German" heritage (Irena is not aware of any actual German background), Major Rugmer (Dougray Scott) reassigns Irena to a new placement, doing domestic housework. There, she works under Herr Schulz (Andrzej Seweryn), who tells her she's to supervise the work of 11 Jewish tailors -- their work has been unsatisfactory, and it's suspected they've been lying about their abilities. Shulz gives Irena valuable advice on how to survive her miserable circumstances: "Look at your own two feet,...

Marc Forster has frequently demonstrated an ability to tastefully moderate the more manipulative or saccharine aspects of popular but somewhat blunt-edged source material, in bestseller screen translations like “The Kite Runner” and “A Man Called Otto.” That knack comes in handy once more with “White Bird,” a graceful adaptation of a YA graphic novel by R.J. Palacio. A “Wonder story” tangentially related to 2012’s “Wonder,” it may get some boost from the connection to that book’s successful 2017 film version with Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson.

The ’47 Meters Down’ Shark Franchise Has Made Stars Like Mandy Moore and John Corbett Much Wealthier
The 2017 horror survival film 47 Meters Down and its underrated sequel made considerably more than the studio expected. In fact, Dimension Films had such little faith in the first movie that they planned to release it straight to DVD. Fortunately, they sold the rights to Entertainment Studios instead, which gave the horror movie a chance in theaters, where it proved to be a major success.

The tightly-woven mysteries at the center of Yellowjackets are about to be exposed.
Showtime dropped the official trailer for Yellowjackets Season 2 on Thursday, and it looks like a stellar follow-up to the first season.
The trailer is chilling and offers excellent insight into what to expect in the coming episodes.
It also features Florence + The Machine's cover of "Just a Girl," which was inspired by the show.
"Once upon a time, there was a place called the wilderness," we hear in the trailer.
"It was beautiful. But it was also violent and misunderstood and it waited and waited to befriend whoever arrived."
"The whole time, there was some darkness out there," adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis) says.
"I thought we left it there when we were rescued, but now I realize, we brought it back with us," adult Lottie (Simone Kessell) says in the clip.
We also hear Misty and Natalie speak about Lottie.

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.
As far as non true crime offerings go, the third and final season of Hulu...

You know his music. Now, you’ll be able to know him.
John Williams, the legendary screen composer behind some of the most recognized movie themes of all time, is now the subject of a feature-length documentary, with his longtime collaborator Steven Spielberg among those spearheading the project.
Amblin Television, Imagine Documentaries and Nedland Media are in the very early stages of production on the documentary that is being directed by Laurent Bouzereau. Bouzereau is a documentarian whose credits include Five Came Back, Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind and Mama’s Boy: A Story From Our Americas. He is also a longtime director of “making of” and behind-the-scenes featurettes, producing several hundred of them since the 1990s, including dozens for Spielberg movies.
Spielberg is executive producing along with Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Justin Wilkes, Sara Bernstein and Meredith Kaulfers.

February can be a weird month. It’s too late to wish anyone “Happy New Year,” late enough to abandon resolutions, and too early to leave the house if you want to avoid getting caught in nasty weather (even in Los Angeles).
This month also marks the third and final season of Hulu’s widely acclaimed “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” which charts the rise of the Wu-Tang clan over time. Season 3 catches up with the Wu-Tang members after their first album, facing divergent paths in the years that follow. As with any group navigating the challenging lure of fame and money, it’s a treacherous road — but an indelible journey. “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” Season 3 premieres February 15 on Hulu.
Here’s everything coming to Hulu in February 2023.
February 1
“Taiwan Crime Stories” (Season 1)
“Impractical Jokers” (Seasons 1-3)
“Naruto Shippuden”
“Sherman’s Showcase” (Season 2B)
“2012” (2009)
“50/50” (2011)

Yellowjackets was a breakout hit during its first season, thanks to a compelling mystery and fine acting.
Showtime celebrated Friday the 13th by dropping around a minute of footage from Yellowjackets Season 2.
Amongst all the mystery and darkness in the trailer, we get our first glimpse of Elijah Wood, and damn, he makes quite the entrance.
"Kidnapping, cults, death … your friendships are a little more complicated than most," says Wood in character as Walter.
We also see Juliette Lewis' Natalie getting hypnotized, possibly as a means to remember what happened.
It's a compelling trailer. It doesn't give too much away, but it does give a lot of insight into what to expect.
The second season will premiere starting Friday, March 24, on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime subscribers, before making its on-air debut on Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

HBO Max may (hopefully) be done randomly pulling original series from the service, but there are still a number of TV shows and films due to leave HBO Max in January as part of the regularly scheduled shuffling.
Multiple seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” will leave HBO Max on Jan. 3, so get those final binge-watches in Asap. And the beloved WB series “Everwood” is due to depart on Jan. 21 if you feel like seeing what young Chris Pratt was up to in the early 2000s.
In terms of movies leaving HBO Max, there are quite a lot. “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” turns into a ghost on Jan. 20, while Jon M. Chu’s delightful musical “In the Heights” leaves on Jan. 27.
Noteworthy films leaving HBO Max on Jan. 31 include the first three “John Wick” movies, the first three “Jurassic Park” films, the first two installments in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise,...

When Yellowjackets Season 2 touches down on Showtime, viewers will meet an aged-up Vanessa "Van" Palmer.
New photos released this week show Lauren Ambrose in the role of present-day Van.
Van will have a more prominent role on the sophomore season of the red-hot drama series.
Liv Hewson, who plays the teenage version of Van, has been upped to series regular.
Ambrose will also be a series regular, meaning we'll be delving deep into what really happened all those years ago.
Van was a key player throughout the first season, but there were plenty of unanswered questions, which we can only assume will be answered on Season 2.
Ambrose is best known for starring for five seasons in the critically-acclaimed drama Six Feet Under, which earned her two Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
She can currently be seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller series Servant, for which she received a Critics Choice Award nomination.

Showtime is saving some of the most exciting news about Yellowjackets for the last month of the year.
Variety revealed this week that Jason Ritter has been added as a guest star for one episode of Yellowjackets Season 2.
The casting news means Ritter will be joining his real-life wife Melanie Lynskey, who stars in the series regular role of Shauna.
In true Yellowjackets fashion, details of Ritter's role are being kept under wraps, and honestly, we're not mad about it.
Yellowjackets Season 1 excelled because it played with expectations, keeping viewers in the dark about all the secrets until the right time to reveal them.
Ritter and Lynskey previously collaborated on the hit Hulu limited series Candy.
It's been a long wait for Yellowjackets Season 2, which was picked up a year ago.
It is set to premiere on March 26, 2023, but the story is showing no sign of slowing down.

Showtime knows a hit when it has one.
The premium cabler announced today that the Emmy-nominated drama Yellowjackets has been renewed for a third season ahead of its second season.
The renewal is very early, but there's a good chance the cabler knew the show would continue to be a success story in its second season, which premieres starting Friday, March 24, on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime subscribers, before making its on-air debut on Sunday, March 26 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
When you have a hit like Yellowjackets, you want to lock down the in-demand cast to ensure the show can continue.
And, there's been quite a wait between seasons, so maybe this is also a tactic to have a shorter wait between seasons 2 and 3.

The “Dune” prequel series at HBO Max from Legendary Television has cast Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson in lead roles, Variety has learned.
Officially titled “Dune: The Sisterhood,” the series was ordered at HBO Max in June 2019. The show is set 10,000 years before the events of “Dune” and is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Per the official logline, the show “follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit”
Watson will play Valya Harkonnen and Henderson will play Tula Harkonnen. The character descriptions say the two sisters “have risen to power in the Sisterhood, a secret organization of women who will go on to become the Bene Gesserit.”
Watson is a two-time best actress Oscar nominee — one for her work in “Breaking the Waves” and another for “Hilary and Jackie.

Louise Archambault’s World War II drama “Irena’s Vow,” starring Canada’s Sophie Nélisse, the U.K.’s Dougray Scott, and Poland’s Maciej Nawrocki and Andrzej Seweryn, is in production in Poland, and is set to premiere next year, according to Film New Europe.
The film tells the story of Polish nurse Irene Gut Opdyke (born Irena Gut), who in 1982 was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal for showing remarkable courage in her attempt to save Polish Jews during World War II. In 2009, her story hit Broadway as a play, written by Dan Gordon, who is also the film’s scriptwriter.

For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

In 1996, a plane carrying a high school girls’ soccer team to a championship goes down in the mountains. In present-day, the survivors of that event are adults who have never publicly discussed what happened during the many months in the wilderness before they were rescued.
Yellowjackets, Showtime’s new survival drama debuting Sunday (10/9c), chronicles the girls’ “descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later,” the show’s official logline reads.

The first television project from Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, two of the producers behind “Narcos” and “Narcos: Mexico,” is nearly here. The duo’s “Yellowjackets” series is slated to premiere November 14 on Showtime.
The premium network recently revealed the trailer for the upcoming 10-episode survival drama, along with the official description:
Equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama, “Yellowjackets” is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.
The series’ trailer aptly plays on the disparate themes of “Yellowjacket.

Showtime’s upcoming survival drama “Yellowjackets” put its young cast through the ringer, forcing them to confront tough environments and psychologically taxing scenarios to tell the story of a girls soccer team whose plane crashes in the remote northern wilderness.
The “Lord of the Flies”-esque series unfolds across two timelines, with the teenage version of the central cast trying to survive in the wilderness and their fully grown selves attempting to piece back together their lives 25 years later. The drama, led by Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey and Tawny Cypress, is described as “equal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama.”
“We knew we didn’t want this to be a show about what happened, but about why it happened,” series co-creator Ashley Lyle said, previewing the show during a Television Critics Association panel on Wednesday. “And so we figured the best way to do that...
