Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2) has joined the cast of He Sees You When You’re Sleeping, a Christmas slasher slated to be released this holiday season by The Horror Collective.

A cultural crusader strikes in L.A. Slasher, now streaming on Screambox.
Directed by Martin Owen and produced by Jeffrey Wright and Daniel Sollinger, the black comedy stars Mischa Barton (“The O.C.”), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Danny Trejo (Machete), and comedian Andy Dick as the voice of the killer.
L.A. Slasher is “a biting, social satire about reality TV and the glorification of people who are famous for simply being famous.”
The film also “explores why it has become acceptable and even admirable for people to become influential and wealthy based on no merit or talent – purely through notoriety achieved through shameful behavior.
“Incensed by the tabloid culture which celebrates it, the L.A. Slasher publicly abducts a series of reality TV stars, while the media and general public in turn begin to question if society is better off without them.”
Here’s the trailer.

Stars: Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Kyliegh Curran, Carla Gugino | Created by Mike Flanagan
When I read that Mike Flanagan was planning to turn The Fall of the House of Usher into an eight-hour mini-series for Netflix I did a major double take. I’ve read the story, and I’ve seen an astounding number of takes on it, from Roger Corman’s classic to reimaginings like The Fall of Usher and Lady Usher. But there was no possible way I could see someone getting eight hours of material out of it.
And I was right, rather than an adaptation of one story The Fall of the House of Usher is an adaptation of Poe’s works en masse with Roderick and his sister Madeline Usher reinvented as heads of a Sackler like pharmaceutical empire.
The first episode, “Upon A Midnight Dreary” opens at the funeral of...

Costume designer Lynn Falconer has many credits under her fashionable brown leather belt, having worked on such movies as Oculus, Straw Dogs, Before I Wake, The Alphabet Killer and Silent House. Lynn’s latest film, currently still in theaters, Ouija: Origin of Evil presented a new challenge though, as she was given the task of recreating the style of characters living in Los Angeles in 1967. To do this as authentically as possible, while adding her own flare, she visited numerous costume houses, estate sales and flea markets choosing to go down the more classic avenue rather than florals, which didn’t fit the dark vibe of the film. She also drew on inspiration from her own childhood, picking pieces she wore during that time. We spoke...

In our further coverage of the 2011 Eyegore Awards held this past Friday, September 23rd, at the Globe Theater at Universal Studios in Hollywood, California (see our report of the award ceremony itself here, courtesy of our own Heather Wixson), this writer hit the event as well and brought back some ocular candy from the carpet as well as interviews with a few of the night’s principals from the same.
Paying respect to some of horror’s most venerated players and notable newcomers, the event was hosted (as it has been in years past) by The Lost Boys co-star Corey Feldman (who arrived with two blondes and attired in a hybrid glam/matador get-up) and attended by celebrity presenters Thomas Jane (The Mist), filmmaker and musician Rob Zombie, James Gunn (Slither, Super), Calico Cooper (daughter of shock-rocker Alice Cooper) and Frozen and Hatchet director Adam Green.

This week's DVD and Blu-ray offerings are no longer a cash-sucking onslaught like the last few weeks, which does make it easier for our wallets.
First up, Centurion, Neil Marshall's fun epic, is finally available for us to take home, and we can definitely recommend it with good conscience. Also, series and movies from TV and their dead-tree companions are out, and they are surprisingly decent in this batch. (Well, one re-release is surely capitalizing on the popularity of its actor, and we bet you can figure out which one that is.) Finally, don't forget the duo release of a couple of Roger Corman flicks!
Centurion
Directed by Neil Marshall

Dread Central (in this case writers Heather Wixson, Andrew Kasch and yours truly, Sean Decker) hit the red carpet this past Friday night for the Eyegore Awards and opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, CA, and brought back a bit of video (see that below, as well as video interviews from the carpet) from the rather boisterous festivities.

Media 8 Entertainment is taking the film Duress to the European Film Market, which begins in less than a week. Duress is a story about suicide and the protection of a young daughter. If that was not enough, Duress will also include a charismatic killer, who trains an unwilling protégé in his dark arts. The film is more thriller than horror, but the writing is new and with any luck the film will be picked up for North American distribution, for fans to enjoy. Have a look at the synopsis, which shows potential and a somewhat grainy trailer below.
The synopsis for Duress here:
"Haunted with nightmares of his wife's recent suicide and struggling to mend the relationship with his only daughter, Richard is caught as a witness to the violence of Abner Solvie. He finds himself at the mercy of a charismatic killer and plagued by his involvement in the city's recent murders.

This one kind of slipped under the radar, but Anchor Bay Entertainment has just released a Blu-Ray edition of Scott Glosserman's Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon today, December 8th. If we hadn't been searching around Amazon, we might never have discovered this low key release. While the Amazon listing doesn't offer a glimpse at the back cover art, we imagine all the special features from the DVD release were carted over for this addition as well. Oddly enough, other Anchor Bay titles that comes up as recommendations that we didn't realize had Blu-Ray editions include Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer , While She Was Out , Red Mist , The Alphabet Killer and Walled In . They're all economically priced at around $9.99, so this might be the time to upgrade!

Sometimes to fight evil, you must enlist evil. That's exactly what happened many years ago when serial killer Ted Bundy was enlisted to help capture the Green River Killer, and with the January 12th DVD release of The Riverman that tale is finally being told.
Based on real-life events recounted in the best-selling book The Riverman: Ted Bundy and I Hunt for the Green River Killer (co-written by Robert Keppel, former chief criminal investigator for the attorney general of Washington state), The Riverman recounts Keppel’s efforts to track down mass murderer Gary Ridgeway, aka the Green River Killer.
With ten unsolved murders weighing on his mind, Keppel (Bruce Greenwood, Star Trek, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Déjà Vu) recruits imprisoned serial killer Ted Bundy (Cary Elwes, The Princess Bride, Saw, The Alphabet Killer, and A Christmas Carol) to help find the killer-at-large.

A Haunting In Connecticut, the fact-based story of a family dealing with supernatural forces in their new home that target their teen son—who’s already suffering from cancer—marks the first meaty role for 22-year-old co-star Kyle Gallner (previously seen to much less sympathetic effect in Red). The young actor was looking forward to the challenge offered by the film, which opens March 27 from Lionsgate.
“Kyle from the get-go really understood the complexity of this character,” producer Andrew Trapani says during the film’s shoot. “In a sense, he has the most difficult part, because he has to be somebody you sympathize with due to his cancer, but then you have to be a little bit afraid of him, because he could be the antagonist. It’s a tightrope that he has to walk, and it was apparent that he had the chops to execute this.”

I’ve heard of indies trying to drum up funds from the Internet contingent of horror fans before, but this is the first time I’ve seen an established director try out this new business model. The director is Tom Holland, the movie is Killing Frank, a thriller that explores how far someone will go to be the sole inheritor of an ailing billionaire's fortune, and here’s how you can be a part of it:
For as little as $5.00, anyone can join the team and gain access to behind-the-scenes footage, polls that influence the storyline, and be entered into contests and raffles. The more you donate, the more access and exclusive bonuses you gain, including walk-on roles and face-to-face time with real Hollywood pros.
So how do you get involved? Visit Help Us Kill Frank now to get all the details on how you, too, can be a producer...
