Many aspiring actors only dream of landing a breakthrough role that gets them into the Hollywood circle. For Rebel Wilson, that project was 2011’s Bridesmaids. The film stars Kristen Wiig (who co-wrote the screenplay), along with an ensemble cast that includes Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper, and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Here’s how Wilson managed to land a role in the movie.

Prior to Bridesmaids, the Australian-born was mostly known for starring in TV shows in her homeland. These included shows such as Pizza, The Wedge, Thank God You’re Here, Bogan Pride (which she created), and Monster House. Her only Hollywood role to date was as a background character — credited as “Girl in Alley” — in 2007’s Marvel Comics adaptation Ghost Rider.

Like many of my generation, I first got hip to “Miserlou” via Agent Orange’s punked-up cover of it on their iconic 1981 Orange County punk LP Living in Darkness. I bought the record to hear their classic “Bloodstains,” but the Dick Dale cover became my favorite track on the album. And, like every human who encounters Dale’s electrified interpretation of the Eastern Mediterranean folk melody for the first time, I had my mind blown when I heard the 1962 original

Will you join Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) and her merry band of misfits for a Super Fun Night every Wednesday (at 9:30/8:30c)?
Super Fun Night follows Kimmie (Wilson) and her two best friends Marika (Lauren Ash, Scare Tactics) and Helen-Alice (Liza Lapira, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23) as they try to turn their weekly girls’ night in into a raucous girls’ night out. Most of the comedy comes from the gals’ overwhelming awkwardness and inability to fit in.

Super Fun Night may come across as a rather shameless effort to capitalize on Rebel Wilson‘s popularity, and there’s a pretty good reason for that. After a string of Australian comedies, Wilson rocketed to her unique place in the collective consciousness with her roles in Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect (and to a lesser extent, the under-appreciated Bachelorette). It’s only by a curious twist, and possibly the advice of marketing gurus, that this isn’t called “The Rebel Wilson Show,” and that’s probably the first place to look when you want to know why this show doesn’t have the strengths it needs to get anywhere.
The show revolves around Kimmie Boubier (Wilson) and her two best friends, and their 13-year tradition of hanging together on Friday nights for their “Super Fun Nights.” Somewhat… socially-challenged… let’s say, the crew find themselves moving into later portions of...

Exclusive: Rebel Wilson will be joined by fellow Australian Kate Jenkinson on WB TV, ABC, and Conoco’s Super Fun Night, reuniting the actresses who previously starred together on Aussie sketch comedy series The Wedge and Bogan Pride. Jenkinson (Offspring, Killing Time, House Husbands) is joining the show as Kendall, a neurotic Type A lawyer idolized by Wilson’s Kimmie. The role is a version of the Felicity character played by Pitch Perfect‘s Anna Camp in the initial multi-camera CBS pilot, and later by Kelen Coleman in ABC’s retooled single-camera version. Jenkinson’s Kendall will join the show in its second episode; Coleman’s Felicity character will not be returning to the series after the pilot. Wilson created, stars, and co-executive produces the half-hour comedy about three nerdy twentysomething women on a quest to have fun every Friday night. Conan O’Brien is exec producing Super Fun Night...

We're so close to San Diego Comic-Con 2013 I can taste it! What does it taste like you ask? Ghirardelli ice cream, of course! There's a Ghirardelli ice cream shop in downtown San Diego that the GeekTyrant crew eats at every night after a long day of awesomeness and work.
Comic-Con has released the full schedule for Thursday, July 18th, and there's a ton of great stuff, including Sherlock, Dexter, Ender's Game, Batman: Arkham Origins, Marvel: House of Ideas, Divergent, The Walking Dead 10th Anniversary Panel, The X-Files 20th Anniversary Panel, and more!
To see the full panel and event line-up, click here. Here are a few of the panels that I thought were noteworthy.

Comic-Con regulars know Thursday is usually the calm before the epic storm of Friday and Saturday. And without "Twilight" on the agenda, this year's first full day of the Con looks even less packed than usual.
Except, of course, for the 20th Anniversary of "The X-Files" which should fill Ballroom 20 past its breaking point and likely have hardcore fans lining up early just to guarantee a seat.
On the movie side, panels for "Divergent" and "Ender's Game" will try to lure the "Twilight" crowd (and hopefully appeal to some non-"Twilight" loving sci-fi fans as well). While anticipated TV panels also include fan favorites "Psych," "Dexter," "Teen Wolf," "Wilfred" and "Beauty and the Beast" and newcomers "Hannibal," "The Blacklist," "Star-Crossed" and "Intelligence" (with "Lost" star Josh Holloway).
Plus, the first ever Con panel for the BBC's awesome "Sherlock" (which airs stateside on PBS). Sadly, without stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman...

Scene stealer Rebel Wilson is getting into the fashion business -- but putting her own hilarious spin on it.
The Pitch Perfect star has created her own plus-sized t-shirt line called Fat Mandi, which comes in sizes "12 to beautimous x [size 18]." Currently, the line only consists of two shirts -- a light blue one with cupcakes on it and a pink one with doughnuts on it, both designs strategically placed across the chest -- and retails for $20 each.

The collection is named after her sketch comedy character Fat Mandi on Australian TV show The Wedge, which was the inspiration for her memorable Pitch Perfect character, Fat Amy.
And Rebel already has some ideas for where to wear her new designs.
"They are excellent T's for horizontal running or just bludging [Australian slang for relaxing] on the couch," she tweeted.

If you're not in the mood to buy a Halloween costume this year, we suggest you spend the next two weeks mastering the ne plus ultra of celebrity impressions: the sputtering, ornamented, bewildering semantics of Seven Psychopaths star Christopher Walken. (This way, you don't even have to buy a costume; just comb your hair back and walk funny.) We did some scouring on YouTube for the best examples. Jay Mohr aside, here are our five favorite Christopher Walken impressions.Anthony Ahern, on Australian TV show The Wedge, cooks a chicken (although where have we seen that before?). Impressionist Jim Meskimen gets philosophical. Comedian Craig Gass talks dance (as Walken, who, if you'll remember, is quite the dancer). You may or may not know that Kevin Pollak has mastered "The Walken" ... ... but did you know Titus Welliver (The Man in Black! From Lost!) was up to the challenge?...

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

Seems Chris Morris doesn't have a corner on the market for terrorism comedies this year. No, the creators of very serious minded Australian thriller The Jammed have just taken a turn towards the low-brow and launched production on their terrorism / reality TV spoof Eliminated. Here's the first official word:
After winning over critics and audiences in 2007 with acclaimed box office breakout hit The Jammed, the same team is back with a new film, Eliminated, which commenced shooting in Melbourne this week.
Written and directed by Dee McLachlan and produced by Andrea Buck from film production company The Picture Tank, Eliminated is a politically incorrect comedy about two of Australia's major obsessions, terrorism and reality television.
In Eliminated, a panel of guerilla judges selects and tests an eager and diverse group of young contestants to see who will take out the crown of 'master terrorist'. Subjected to various challenges, interrogations and torture,...
