In this Lupin the 3rd TV special, we see Jigen being interviewed by a reporter who is interested in knowing how Jigen met Lupin.
Jigen tells her all he knows about the day he encountered Lupin.
Back then Jigen was part of a New York Mob who holds a secret treasure.
Lupin is after it but he won't be able to open it till he finds out what the key is to opening it.
We also get to see how Lupin first met Fujiko, how Goemon got involved, and how Zennigata became obsess with capturing Lupin.
It's a great Lupin movie to watch. A must see for the die hard fans. It's unconfirmed on when it'll be released in the US. Only available in fansubs.

This is on of the better origin stories that if watched not because like any lupin movies after trhe original series does it provid a form of nostalgia but it isnt afraid to diverge in style and tone from it's source material similar to the superior Catle of Cagliostro made by the great Miyazaki. But i really had to say i was delightfully suprised by how much i enjoyed this not so film, film.
Like Detective Conan, Naruto or even One Piece. The Lupin series have become almost iconic. But with these long lasting series comes the inevitable affect of inconsistency through-out the series. That's why the movies all something to look forward to. You might not have the strongest storyline but you ccan almost certainly bet that atleast the animation wont be sloppy and this movie really impressed me with it's animation. The action sequences were pretty cool and refrained from too much of the slapstick tropes that Lupin the Third series was somewhat known for (and in my opinion plagued with. It took much more of a film noir type of feel which i really appritated especially given that this is about a hip group of self-made these and given in the perspective of the gunwielding smoking Jigen (lol). The animation's only flaws came in the scenes with Goema which speaking as a big fan of swordfights and swordplay, he always lets me down with that bs of sword that cuts thru anything
It felt really cool seeing these characters in a more gritty down to earth type of way. And should give it a definite watch if your a fan of the series. I personally think the show and characters are alright but i doubt we would've ever had Spike Spiegel if not for Lupin the Third
7.42/10.

The very best Lupin III movie.
Excellent from beginning to end, the characters are spot on, the art is superior, the story is great. It's funny, it's poignant, it is set to some of the best music Yuji Ohno composed, the ending montage is perfect Lupin III.
This movie presents one of many versions of the beginning of the Lupin gang (See also TV episodes and Monkey Punch comic). Not only how they met, but what their relationships are to each other throughout the stories. Lupin and Jigen's brotherhood; Jigen and Goeman friendship of mutual respect; Jigen and Fujiko's antagonistic dislike of each other; and Fujiko and Lupin's relationship of betrayal. This movie even supplies an origin for the classic yellow roadster Lupin's gang drives on and off through all the TV shows and movies (sometimes as a Mercedes, sometimes other things, sometimes two seat, sometimes not).
Also, the story sets up the various likes and dislikes of the characters. For example, Zenigata's devotion to his obsessive version of police work, and cup-of-noodle. Jigen's condescension to people who have bad relationships, and hate of the dentist (a joke in other Lupin III movies). Lupin's mercurial disguises. Especially funny when Lupin and Jigen are captured and the camera pans past a table where their pockets have been emptied. Jigen's pile is a gun, some bullets, and some cigarettes. Lupin's pile is his P-38, and rope, and extend-o arms, and masks, and makeup, and a parachute, etc, etc.
Lupin Tradition: The big boss, Galvez, looks the same way big bosses always do, fat with the triangular bald head. The evil sidekick of the big boss, Shade, also is drawn to tradition. Same hair, same clothes, same tacky sunglasses, same preference for dual guns. Jigen getting shot, any time it happens it is always in the left bicep. Always.

Lupin iii film 10
This is the best Lupin film by a long mile. It's perfect in every way. Great music, great animation, amazing drawings and characters story. This is a film that explains everyone's story and how they became the team they are.
There are so many good moments on Lupin and Jigen and how their friendship was built, definitely the best parts of the film. Jigen has a lot of screen parts. Also Fujiko and Lupin moments are great. Loved how they incorporated Goemon to their story. Zenigata is pretty great, as from chasing Fujiko, he decides that Lupin is his case to arrest no matter what. The only downside is that for some reason the movie is in 4:3 instead of 16:9 but that's just my preference.
This film is perfection, definitely the Lupin to watch.

When I heard the premise of this film, I was not looking forward to it. As much as I enjoy prequels like "Batman Begins" and "Casino Royale", I really didn't need the backstory behind Lupin and his gang. I had no interest in seeing flashbacks of how the group got together. Thankfully, I was wrong about this film.
Ignoring all the prequel elements of the movie, this is a really solid Lupin III adventure. It has the right balance of all its major characters. Fujiko is used to her fullest, Goemon brings in some great energy, Jigen has a crucial character arc and even Inspector Zenigata has important story beats. The movie does a good job of showing how these people work best when they are all together.
The story has a memorable villain and henchmen. They have the right level of personal stakes and physical intimidation.
The prequel elements are also handled quite well. Without going into spoilers, it ends in such a way that leaves you asking, how much of that was even real?
Going in with zero expectations, this turned out to be one of Lupin's best adventures.
