Earlier this week we gave you the heads up on Sideshow Pictures' horror/comedy short Night of the Pumpkin. Unfortunately all we could show then was a shot of the director and star jack o'lantern until the official Internet-wide release. Well, gourdhounds, that release date is upon us, and all you have to do is scroll down to get your pumpkin on!

Synopsis:

It’s All Hallow’s Eve, and geeky Steve and his buddy Cutter are holding a séance in the local cemetery. While foolishly toying with the dark forces of nature, they summon the soul of an ancient demon that possesses their jack o’lantern, which promptly goes on a carnivorous rampage.

The other day, we told you about a Halloween short (here) coming to you called Night of the Pumpkin. Well, your wait is over as the fine people at Sideshow Pictures has given us the film.

As the demonic gourd terrorizes the entire town, it grows larger and larger with every human soul it consumes! Now it is up to Steve to stop the monster pumpkin before it destroys his neighborhood and devours the woman he loves!

If the candy and the costumes and the fact that it's the only time of the year you can scatter bones in your front yard without having the neighbors alert the authorities aren't enough for you to look forward to Halloween, here's a new reason: Sideshow Pictures is promising to deliver a great short film each year, just in time for the holiday ... and the first one, Night of the Pumpkin, is ready to launch.

From reading the synopsis, the film sounds like some kind of splattery combination of Witchboard and Rubber (yeah…wrap your minds around that one). What we can guarantee is plenty of blood along with a gruesome growing gourd with nothing but bad intentions. Okay, I'm curious.

Germany’s Timo Rose gave Fango the exclusive first look at the latest trailer for his new gorefest Game Over (see it below), and shared the news about his next project, Karl The Butcher Vs. Axe, which reteams him with fellow Teutonic terrorizer Andreas Schnaas. Game Over stars Fangoria Radio’s Debbie Rochon (pictured), Raine Brown from Rose’s Barricade and Nicola Fiore as three American friends who are kidnapped and tortured when the latter two visit Rochon’s character in Germany.

On Sunday I tried to make it to the Vindication panel to see writer/director Bart Mastronardi and his cast, but just couldn’t do it as I had NewFest commitments. Later I did race from NewFest (in Chelsea) to the con to catch the Vindication screening. I got there about 10 minutes late, but the room was standing room only. I’ve already seen the film, so I’m glad my butt wasn’t taking a seat from someone who hasn’t seen this really f-ing awesome film. Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O’Brien will be previewing his new Fox DVD splatter sequel at the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. O’Brien (pictured below with friend), the director of the Sci Fi Channel original movies Rock Monster, Monster Ark and Cyclops, will debut exclusive clips from Wrong Turn 3 (about another group of lost travelers facing off against inbred hillbilly maniacs) at the convention on Sunday.

Hellboy movies director Guillermo del Toro has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. One of the most celebrated genre directors of our time, del Toro will be appearing at the convention on Friday (5 to 7 p.m. only) for an exclusive stage appearance and to sign copies of his first novel, the vampire epic The Strain: Book One Of The Strain (coming June 2 from William Morrow), with co-author Chuck Hogan.

WildClaw Theatre, Chicago’s leading horror stage troupe, will bring their brand of terror and the supernatural to the fast-approaching Chicago edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held March 6-8 at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel (6810 North Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Il). On Sunday of the event, the local horror theater stalwarts will discuss their previous shows, screen clips of their most outlandish work, answer questions, talk about their upcoming Zombie Bowling and zombie play, The Revenants, then close out the convention with a round of “Scary-aoke,” where the audience will have the opportunity to act out scenes from their favorite horror flicks.

The independent horror film Plague Town, which Fango’s Michael Gingold called “a nightmare captured on film,” will make its Midwest premiere at the fast-approaching Chicago edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held March 6-8 at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel (6810 North Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Il). The screening will be introduced by writer/director David Gregory.

Plague Town is about a group of American travelers lost in the Irish countryside who run afoul of a group of bloodthirsty, disfigured children. Gregory (pictured with actress Kate Aspinwall and victim) makes his feature debut with the movie, having previously helmed nearly 100 genre documentaries and DVD features, including Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth, Portrait: The Making of Henry, Inside Manhunter, Tom Savini: The Early Years, The Godfathers of Mondo and many more.

TV star James Marsters, the beloved Spike of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, has joined the lineup of the next East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City.

Besides playing Joss Whedon’s reformed bloodsucker, Marsters has also appeared in the films House On Haunted Hill, Shadow Puppets and the upcoming Dragonball: Evolution, as well as the series Smallville and Torchwood and the miniseries The Capture Of The Green River Killer (as Ted Bundy). Having teamed up on camera for fright features in Germany ("Barricade", the upcoming "Beast") and Italy ("Darkness Surrounds Roberta"), American actors Joe Zaso and Raine Brown are now wrapping up a new horror flick in England. "Braincell" is being lensed in Liverpool, as well as Naples, Italy, by Zaso's Cinema Image Productions in association with Studio Mare Nostrum LLC and Cryptkeeper Films. Veteran X Files producer/director R.W. Goodwin (pictured), whose new creature-feature comedy Alien Trespass opens this spring from Roadside Attractions, has joined the lineup of the next Chicago edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held March 6-8 at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel (6810 North Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Il). Goodwin produced over 70 episodes of The X Files, and directed nine of them.

Alien Tresspass, which stars Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack, Autopsy’s Robert Patrick and The Wonder Years’ Dan Lauria, concerns an Earthly encounter with extraterrestrials both good and bad. Not a spoof or parody, but pretty much a straight film that could have played on the same bill as It Came From Outer Space, Alien Trespass has won raves on the festival circuit. Director Toby Wilkins (pictured), whose first film Splinter wowed fans last year, has joined the lineup of the next Chicago edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held March 6-8 at the Wyndham Chicago O’Hare Hotel (6810 North Mannheim Road, Rosemont, Il). Wilkins will preview his latest directorial effort, Ghost House Pictures’ The Grudge 3, at the convention, and the Sony Pictures DVD sequel will also be screened at the show.

The Grudge 3 picks up after the previous sequel ended, with the spirit of Kayako and her son still haunting a Chicago apartment building; Saw’s Shawnee Smith and Star Trek’s Marina Sirtis co-star, and rising genre scribe Brad Keene (The Gravedancers, From Within) penned the script. Joe Davison, writer/producer/star of the killer-clown opus 100 Tears and actor in numerous other independent genre flicks, sent along word about a new project he has written and will direct called Experiment 7. The cast is a Who’s Who of familiar faces from indie fright fare.

Davison will also appear in the film alongside Tears co-stars Rod Grant, Raine (Barricade) Brown and Jack Amos, plus Candice Rojas, Dwight Cenac, actor/filmmaker Alan Rowe (The Blood Shed) Kelly and German goremeister Timo Rose, with whom Davison shares the screen in Fearmakers and the upcoming Beast. The story concerns Dr. Felix Copper (Grant), a scientist in a postapocalyptic world attempting to find a cure for the radiation poisoning that has blighted the planet. He runs into a couple of survivalists (Davison and Cenac) and then a supermodel-turned-weapons expert (!) played by Rojas, and together they battle vicious mutants to try to save mankind.

Fango got word from a source who would know that two of the most notorious German genre directors are about to collaborate. Timo Rose (pictured) and Andreas Schnaas will co-direct a movie with the working title of Unrated, set to lens in their home country in March.

No relation to German filmmaker Frank Montag’s Uncut (which recently filmed in NYC), Unrated is described as “an English-language supernatural flick with ghosts, demons and Timo and Andreas’ requisite gore.” Rose’s credits include Barricade, The Fearmakers and the upcoming Beast, while Schnaas has helmed the likes of the Violent Shit flicks, Demonium, Nikos The Impaler and the new Don’T Wake The Dead. We’ll bring you any Unrated updates we find out!

Paranormal investigators/hosts Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes (pictured) of the hit Sci Fi Channel series Ghost Hunters have joined the lineup of the next East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City.

Since debuting in 2004, Ghost Hunters remains one of cable’s hottest shows. In season four, an average of 2.8 million viewers tuned in each week to catch the latest cases from the files of Taps (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), led by Rhode Island plumbers Hawes and Wilson. Hot on the heels of Ghost Hunters wrapping its most successful season to date, Sci Fi has renewed the reality show for a sixth season; season five will premiere in March.

All right, a werewolf story! No one told me Timo Rose’s follow-up to Barricade was a freakin’ werewolf story! It’s called Beast, and today a source close to its production sent us a look at the film’s poster and some behind-the-scenes shots from the set, which you can feast upon below!

In Beast, the lovely Raine Browne stars as Amy, a young woman dealing with the unwanted return of her brother, Alex (Joe Zaso), who comes back with more than the usual amount of baggage; he’s now carrying around a lycanthropic curse. Joe Davison (100 Tears) stars alongside Rose himself as werewolf hunters hot on Alex’s trail. There are also cameos by Night of the Living Dead’s Judith O’Dea and Gravedancers director Mike Mendez!
