If there’s one thing we know for certain about the future of Sherlock, it’s that it’s messy. Despite the massive global following the mystery series has received since its 2010 debut, its fourth season – and especially its finale – was plagued by fan, critic, and even some of the performers’ disapproval.
However, there are still a great deal of people who hope that a fifth season happens. Star Benedict Cumberbatch has said he wouldn’t mind reprising the role, but not to “hold your breath.” And creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have already boldly expressed their interest in continuing the show, though they’ve cited their involvement in Dracula as their number one priority.
The latter is probably the main reason the BBC has yet to comment on the possibility of another installment, though there are a lot of things to consider.

As part of their Fox acquisition deal, The Walt Disney Company controls screen rights to the 1989 comic book series, "The League of Extraordinary Gentleman", previously adapted as a feature film (2003) and now developing as a live-action TV series:
Fox had given a pilot commitment to the TV adaptation, based on the graphic novel by writer Alan Moore and illustrator Kevin O'Neill.
According to Moore, the concept behind the series was initially a 'Justice League of Victorian England':
"...in the aftermath of the events of the novel 'Dracula', a now disgraced and divorced 'Mina Harker' is recruited by 'Campion Bond' on behalf of 'British Intelligence' ...
"...and asked to assemble a league of other extraordinary individuals to protect the interests of the British Empire.
"Together with 'Captain Nemo', Mina travels to Cairo to locate 'Allan Quatermain', then on to Paris in search of 'Dr. Jekyll'. Finally in London...

If one thing is for certain, it’s that the fate and future of BBC’s Sherlock are messy, to say the least. When it first debuted, the series – which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman – received critical acclaim for its clever writing, visual design, and strong direction, all held together by creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, both of whom are best known for their work on Doctor Who.
Unfortunately, despite a massive fanbase and worldwide popularity, the series began to stumble. While the first three seasons were well received by critics and fans alike, the fourth (which aired in early 2017) didn’t enjoy the same success, thanks in part to a finale that many argue was convoluted, contrived, and poorly written.

Of course, despite the most recent season’s shortcomings, fans have been clamoring for a return.

Richard Armitage chats to us about his new audio production, Dracula, The Hobbit, his upcoming projects and more...
Just the other month we had the pleasure of chatting to Richard Armitage when he was promoting Pilgrimage, but as luck (and his productivity) would have it, we were given the opportunity for a catch up about his latest voice performance, with the Audible release of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde.
Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story comes as part of The Monster Collection, a Gothic trilogy which also includes a reading of Frankenstein by Dan Stevens and Dracula by Greg Wise. There’s also ‘an exclusive introduction by Dr. Maria Mellins and Dr. Peter Howell, Senior Lecturers in Gothic literature at St Mary's University, London’ who, strangely enough, are both people I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years – it’s a small world indeed.

Faye Jackson fields some questions from projectcyclops about her first feature film, a horror/thriller/mystery about the Romanian myth of the Strigoi. You can read his review here.
How did you become interested in the Strigoi myth? Before seeing your film I’d never heard of it, and the Internet has so many convoluted and alternative descriptions of what Strigoi really are. Was that part of the attraction?
I’d never heard of the Strigoi myth until I went to Romania (my husband’s Romanian and I’ve visited a lot over the past 10 years).
I was researching the origins of Dracula out of curiosity and became interested in the folklore stories that appear to have inspired Stoker. I immediately loved the accounts I read of Strigoi. In particular I remember reading a story about a guy burying an uncle only to go home and find him sitting in his favourite chair,...
