I'm not really sure what this movie is. The premise sounded pretty awesome. A secret fighting organization, identified by rings that they wear, that when they meet in the real world...they must battle, the loser giving up his ring. Also some ninja's.
Sounds cool doesn't it? Yes. You know what's not cool? 90% of it taking place in people's houses and random parking lots. Oh and there's some scenes in the local park. All of it brilliantly shot on a handcam...probably bought from BestBuy for the $599 sale.
Basically this is a premise that properly done could have been pretty exciting. It's just missing, writing, direction, a budget, a single person with acting skills, and guys who actually know martial arts. Although the lead character does seem like he knows some real martial arts...but he's so old and non-threatening looking.
Very low budget, hokey, cheesy, and pretty much unwatchable. I gave them 1 extra star because it seems like they at least took it pretty seriously.

Watched it on one of the apps; liked the fights and martial arts, the romance--what I disliked was after the character defeats his last opponent, a deadly ninja assassin, instead of winning a substantial money award, he's whisked away and confined to a holding cell surrounded by alien species, to fight again. That was POINTLESS, and DUMB! And now the woman is left alone (You should've taken her and fled, pal!). Couldn't find a possible sequel to this movie; and the star who played the lead fighter is now deceased. I can dream of perhaps a sequel with karate warriors coming to save him. I guess that's why we have the SPACE FORCE! Lol.
'Fight Ring' has fights, but perhaps like me you didn't expect 'ring' to double for the type people wear on their fingers. Silly martial arts low budget pic also doubles as a vanity project for director, writer and star Sean Gallimore. Filmed competently all things given, but with an array of flat spots and amateur acting. For the bad movie initiated only.
Dan Shanks (Gallimore) was a skilled artist who lost his ability to draw so he turned to his second talent: martial arts. These come in handy when he enters a secret fighting tournament with a big cash prize that could solve all his money woes. Contestants drawn to fight at any place at any time by the mystical rings they wear. Can Dan beat the best of the best? Keep his agent / gf Gina (Debra Jans) out of harms way?
Give credit to Sean that (unlike other dudes who've done suspect vanity pics) his martial arts are legit. However that doesn't mean 'Fight Ring' is all that good or interesting. The vanity element doesn't go overboard enough to be hilarious while the dudes he faces off against aren't very memorable. Some gratuitous female nudity and a wacky ending out of left field are the best pieces by far.

I watch videos to be entertained. Lots of them are an hour story stretched out to two hours. This is one of those. But you can fast forward through the talking stuff and not miss much of anything.
It has a plot, and an ending that far exceeded my hopes, expectations, and imagination. It made the most of whatever budget there was.
The fight scenes were not disappointing, some were rather comical, all the bad guys ganged up on the one good guy waiting their turn to get knocked out. My wife even said maybe they have a code that says they have to wait their turn. She even enjoyed it and hates martial arts flicks.
I figure I got my money's worth and then some. I liked it.
