No more will I wince when I hear the name Nashville. It has always seemed in the minds of a lot of people to be a one-horse town.
Hearing how the Nashville Symphony played this concert of Shostakovich, Barber and the great Mahler - the 4th and 5th movements of his Second Symphony called "Resurrection", has forever changed the way I will look at this grand - now complete - world class city.
The highpoint, of course, was the Mahler. Under Slatkin's gifted direction - this Mahler will remain in my memory for a long time. And the choir - it was first solemn to the core - then - awe-inspiring then sublime! The soloists, Soprano Janice Chandler-Eteme and Mezzo-Soprano Frederica von Stade were marvelous.
Thanks must go to the many hundreds who contributed to the success of this presentation. Next time I am in Nashville, I will definitely look you up! Bravo Nashville!
