Bird Box is easily one of the most significant films in Netflix’s history. With its excellent cast full of actors like Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson, and even Machine Gun Kelly, the record-breaking film became a cultural phenomenon upon its release.

One would assume, considering its success, that everyone on the project had the time of their lives when they were making the film. However, it would seem that one part of the production was tirelessly unrewarding.
Even though the movie’s soundtrack was made by two members of the legendary band Nine Inch Nails, the experience was very frustrating for the two musicians.

A movie is a lot more than the actors that star in it. Several important aspects of production can be the difference between a memorable and a forgettable project.

U.S. President Donald Trump got a bit of a roasting during the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony in London on Sunday, courtesy of host David Tennant.
The Scottish star (Doctor Who, Inside Man) during his opening monologue mentioned The Brutalist, lauding it as “as film of incredible architecture, the boldest architecture in film this year” with the exception of the hairdo of Donald Trump, played by Sebastian Stan, for The Apprentice.
“Donald Trump said he hasn’t seen The Apprentice — because it’s a 15 [British film rating]. It’s not on Nickelodeon,” Tennant continued before joking he had said Trump’s name three times. “It’s like Beetlejuice – I’ve summoned him.”
He followed up with: “Speaking of villains…” which drew much laughter and applause from the crowd.
The BBC broadcast of the ceremony later in the evening, which is always a shorter, edited version of the BAFTAs, included the hair and villains...

When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July of 2023, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now, season 2 is speeding toward a summer 2025 premiere, and showrunner has promised that Twisted Metal season 2 is “even bigger than the first one.” You can get a preview of the new batch of episodes by checking out the newly unveiled teaser trailer, embedded above!
Based on an original take by Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, this adaptation of the Twisted Metal franchise centers on a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Jesse Eisenberg, Joe Alwyn, Isabella Rossellini, Colman Domingo and Ralph Fiennes are among the presenters set for the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards.
Notably missing from the attendees list was Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón, whose awards campaign has catastrophically imploded following the discovery of controversial posts made on her X (previously Twitter) account. The star — the first trans actor to be nominated for an Oscar — has apologized, though tensions are said to be high between Gascón and streamer Netflix for hindering the film’s Oscar hopes. She has now been phased out of its awards campaign entirely.
The British Academy confirmed the guest and presenter lineup ahead of the prestigious ceremony Sunday, Feb. 16 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
Other presenters include Adam Pearson, Adam Scott, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello, Celia Imrie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Gwendoline Christie, Hannah John-Kamen, James McAvoy, James Norton, Letitia Wright, Leo Woodall,...

ITV Exploring ‘Extreme Planet Earth’ In Series From Plimsoll
Tiny World producer Plimsoll is making an extreme natural history series for ITV. Extreme Planet Earth will see “underscore the high-stakes battle for wildlife survival in an era of extreme weather, wildfires and environmental upheaval,” according to the commercial net. The series will travel to see elephants in Borneo navigating treacherous floodwaters, wombats in Australia with fires raging around them, a leopard in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi struggling with a brutal drought and Caribbean flamingos in Mexico facing up to the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record. Plimsoll already made A Year on Planet Earth for ITV and is owned by ITV Studios. ITV doesn’t dabble often in natural history but often opts for landmarks when it does. Factual Controller Jo Clinton-Davis said: “This series is unique in charting the impact of wild weather on wildlife – and Plimsoll deploying a combination of outstanding visuals,...

Since Star Trek: The Next Generation took off in 1987, there hasn't been a Star Trek series that hasn't had some type of connection to The Original Series, even if it was by a thin thread. Star Trek: The Next Generation was for the new crew aboard the Enterprise, which was the orginal starship. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was connected to The Next Generation through Chief O'Brien and the Battle of Wolf 359, which killed Commander Sisko's wife, Jennifer. Captain Jean-Luc Picard had been assimilated by the Borg at the time and was involved in the death of over eleven thousand people. The bond was strengthened when Lt. Commander Worf came to Deep Space Nine.
Star Trek: Voyager crew members visited Quark's Bar on Deep Space Nine before their voyage began, and Reginald Barclay, who had served aboard the Enterprise on The Next Generation, showed up in several episodes as did Counselor Deanna Troi.

Star Trek: Picard was a bit of an up-and-down mess over its three-season run. A turnstile of showrunners, tonal shifts between seasons, and a blatant disregard for its own conceptual premise all led to the show being a mixed bag at best, or a failure at worst. The lone idea that came out of the series was one involving a potential spinoff, dubbed with love as 'Star Trek: Legacy'.
The show would follow Jean-Luc Picard's son, some of the new cast members from the third season of Picard and a few returning legacy characters, namely Seven of Nine. It was a solid idea when it was pitched, and even though the final Picard showrunner, Terry Matalas, really wanted to make the show, Paramount basically buried the project.
instead, they greenlit a different spinoff, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. It'll be interesting to see if that show lives up to the expectations,...

British boyband Take That and Wicked‘s Jeff Goldblum are set to perform live at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.
Take That, comprising of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen, will take to the stage on Sunday, Feb. 16 and perform their number one single “Greatest Day”, which famously opened Sean Baker’s nominated hit Anora.
Goldblum, meanwhile, star of Wicked, will perform on the piano during the In Memoriam section of the ceremony. What audiences might not know about the Hollywood icon is that when not acting, Goldblum has a dedicated following of his jazz band, the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. Their upcoming album, “Still Blooming,” is scheduled to be released on Apr. 25.
Vatican drama Conclave, based on the novel by Robert Harris, leads the way with 12 BAFTA nominations — ahead of Emilia Pérez‘s 11 and The Brutalist‘s nine.

Fighting back tears and fresh from receiving the first of two standing ovations, Jennifer Lopez told a Sundance Film Festival audience on Sunday night that starring in Bill Condon’s movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman made a lifelong dream come true. But it wasn’t for lack of trying.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet ahead of the world premiere at Park City’s Eccles Center Theatre, the superstar entertainer revealed that she had auditioned for some of Hollywood’s best known modern movie musicals, only to get passed over.
“I remember auditioning for Evita, I remember auditioning for Chicago and for Nine — getting very close on Nine,” said Lopez, outfitted for the premiere in a very method ensemble, a glittering spiderweb gown by designer Valdrin Sahiti. “There was a lot of things that I had always hoped that I could do and just wasn’t the right time.

Hugh Grant, known for his roles in iconic romantic comedies like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Love Actually, became a beloved figure in Hollywood during the ’90s and early 2000s. While Grant has always spoken fondly of many of his movies, he has also been honest about the fact that some of his past projects haven’t aged the way he had hoped.

One of those films was Nine Months, a romantic comedy from 1995, where Grant starred opposite Julianne Moore. The movie did well at the box office, but the actor has since regretted being a part of it. His main issue with the movie stemmed from his later realization about the studio behind it.

It is Star Trek: Voyager's turn for a glorious comeback after The Next Generation's cast and the Enterprise-d had their big nostalgic moment in 2023. Star Trek: Picard didn't start as a feelgood tribute to Jean-Luc Picard's heyday, but the spinoff certainly reached that point in season 3. After finally reassembling the main cast of The Next Generation, the crew went into battle, slightly wearier than before, on a secretly restored Enterprise-d. It was an unapologetic throwback designed to rekindle memories of a bygone era. By any measure, that goal was achieved.
Star Trek: Voyager celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025, and despite never hitting the same mainstream heights as The Next Generation, Voyager and its crew reserve a special place in fans' hearts. Modern Star Trek rarely turns down an opportunity to reference - or, indeed, repeat - the past, but such tributes have largely been restricted to The Original...

It's a little wild to think about how little Alison Pill's Agnes Jurati factored into the show's final season. She didn't appear at all as a character and her impact in the prior seasons was essentially erased from the timeline. She became the Borg Queen. It wasn't a good storyline to get her there, sure. She also looked awful in her full 'Borg Queen outfit' to boot.
That CGI was rough, but still. She was the Borg Queen. Yet, despite season three being about the original Borg Queen's character returning, you'd think there'd be some kind of showdown between the two. Not only did that not happen, but Jurati wasn't even mentioned it felt like. Her character made no impact on the final storyline, even though it was ripe with possibility.
So why was that? Why did they opt to undo an entire season of (bad) storytelling? Especially considering...

Luca Guadagnino released two films in 2024, and coming off the energetic “Challengers” was the more introspective “Queer.” The filmmaker’s latest stars Daniel Craig as William Lee, a fictionalized stand-in for author William S. Burroughs, whose slender novel the movie is based on.
The movie premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and later played the New York Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival. A24 acquired the domestic distribution rights to the movie, with Mubi releasing the movie internationally.
But how can you watch Guadagnino’s latest? Read on to find out.

After being released in theaters last November and December, “Queer” is now finally available to rent on Digital. The film will eventually be streaming on Max due to an output deal between the streamer and A24, but a streaming release date has not yet been revealed. “Queer” will also be released on Blu-ray in April.

Former Borg drone Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) was a mother figure and mentor to a group of ex-Borg children in Star Trek: Voyager. Voyager's Borg kids had been assimilated as children, just like Seven, who was only six years old when her parents' ship, the USS Raven, was caught after years of evading capture. Young Annika Hansen was the daughter of Erin and Mangus Hansen, Federation scientists whose study of the Borg brought them to the Delta Quadrant. Annika was too young to become a drone, so she was placed in a maturation chamber until she was older.
Recently liberated from the Borg Collective, Seven was still figuring out how to reclaim her own humanity when the USS Voyager encountered a Borg Cube that had been struck by a virus in Star Trek: Voyager season 6, episode 16, "Collective". The virus rendered the Cube all but inert, killing all the drones...

Three accomplished Star Trek captains and one admiral came from Star Trek: Voyager, but Star Trek: The Next Generation has an even more impressive record. Throughout Voyager's seven seasons, Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) led the USS Voyager on its unprecedented journey home from the unexplored Delta Quadrant. She not only kept most of the crew safe throughout this journey, but also made numerous first contacts with alien species and faced off against the Borg Queen herself. Janeway went on to become one of Star Trek's most impressive admirals and three of her best officers became accomplished captains.
Modern Star Trek has yet to reveal the status of the USS Voyager's remaining crew members, but three captains and an admiral is quite impressive. Still, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Star Trek: The Next Generation's crew have Voyager's cast beat. With its premiere in 1987, Star Trek: The Next Generation...

Although Jeri Ryan's ex-Borg drone Seven of Nine spent only four years on the USS Voyager, the rich history of Star Trek: Voyager's breakout character was revealed through flashbacks and dialogue. Each season of Star Trek: Voyager revealed more about Seven of Nine's history before Captain Kathryn Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) USS Voyager crew liberated Seven from the Borg Collective. Previously, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) could only be severed from the Collective because he'd been Locutus for mere days, but Seven of Nine had spent most of her life as a Borg drone.
Seven of Nine began life as Annika Hansen, a human born on the Tendara colony in 2344 to civilian scientists Erin and Magnus Hansen. Decades before the Federation's official first contact with the Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2, episode 6, "Q Who", the Hansens suspected that the cybernetic species existed. Warning: Spoilers For Star Trek: Lower Decks Series Finale - "The New Next Generation"Star Trek: Lower Decks' series finale ends with the animated comedy creating its own version of Deep Space Nine. The USS Cerritos was the only starship in the United Federation of Planets that could stop a deadly soliton wave from wiping out Star Trek's Prime timeline. In the end, a new stable portal to infinite Quantum Realities was opened, and only one starbase could guard this wormhole to the multiverse.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's original mission saw the space station led by Commander (later Captain) Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) transported from Bajor to guard the wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant. Known by the Bajorans as the Celestial Temple where their gods, the Prophets, reside, the wormhole was a conduit to an unexplored region of Star Trek's galaxy. The winter break is now officially in full swing. The broadcast shows are on their breaks, and some for a few months. The good news is that some shows will be back early in the new year.
There’s a great mixture of returning and new dramas and comedies in January 2025. Happy’s Place and Lopez vs. Lopez kicks things off in early January on NBC, and then the end of the month will see the return of most of the CBS dramas.
ABC is a bit of a mixed bag. While some dramas will either start or return in January 2025, we’ll have to wait until March for the return of Tgit. However, there are some reality shows and game shows to look forward to while we wait. Now you just need to decide what you want to watch.
ABC winter TV schedule
As mentioned, ABC has a varied schedule for shows.

Alan Menken is a true romantic. Just ask him how he met his wife of 52 years, Janis.
“This dancer walks into the room, and I knew immediately who she was, because I dreamt her,” he says, beaming from across the breakfast table on a Beverly Hills rooftop.
It’s no surprise that the man behind lionized love songs like “A Whole New World” and “I See the Light” has a tender, gentle nature. In fact, it’s that undeniable sentimentality that has elevated Menken to legend status (and Egot status) over the course of his career spanning five decades. The composer has earned eight Oscars (the most of any person alive today), all of which came from his work on films of the so-called “Disney Renaissance,” the period between 1989 and 1999 when the Mouse House produced some of its most beloved animated films. Perhaps one of the most unexpected yet perfect relationships in Hollywood was the one the late legendary Robin Williams shared with the late and equally legendary Christopher Reeve. Though the two were polar opposites in their bodies of work, their friendship was nothing short of swoon-worthy as they perfectly proved that friends can, actually, become our chosen family.

That said, Williams also lived up to his promise of being a good friend and was there for Reeve in his hard times. Even when the latter, who is still regarded as the best Superman to date by many, found himself facing a series of unfortunate events with his body getting paralyzed neck-down after an accident, his best friend was there to get a laugh out of him nonetheless.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have successfully transitioned from the music world to the movie world thanks to their collaborations with David Fincher and other notable filmmakers. With Ross, Reznor first won the Best Original Score Oscar for The Social Network, next nabbing it for Soul (alongside Jon Baptiste). However, they would lose out on their Mank nomination. In addition to other works for David Fincher, like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, Reznor and Ross also recently did the music for Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All, Challengers and, more recently, Queer.
The Nine Inch Nails members are also tapped to score the upcoming Tron: Ares, and The Hollywood Reporter is revealing that the duo is quite comfortable staying in the film game in lieu of returning to purely music. Reznor would tell IndieWire, “What we’re looking for [from film] is the collaborative experience with interesting people.

Ever since its inception, Black Clover has been fighting a losing battle in proving its originality. Sure, the series is an amalgamation of the most common Shonen tropes, but that does not make it a copy of Naruto, My Hero Academia, or any other anime.
For years, Naruto fans have attacked Black Clover by calling it a dumb copy of their favorite series. But it’s time to fight back and this time, the battle will be with logic and hard facts that will rub Naruto fans the wrong way.

Melissa Fumero explains why a revival of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is unlikely to happen. Fumero played Amy Santiago, a main character in the workplace sitcom police procedural about NYPD's Jake Peralta and his team at the police station. In addition to Fumero, Brooklyn Nine-Nine featured a leading cast including Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Joe Lo Truglio, Andre Braugher, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller. Although the extent to which the iconically dark-shaded and silver-streaked Guido Anselmi (Marcello Mastroianni) can truly be accepted as a Federico Fellini surrogate is a source of endlessly inconsequential debate, we tend to take the lightly fictive director at his word when he dismally claims that he had planned to make a truly honest and direct film this time around. 8½ represents the most unceremonious and abrupt transition in the development of Fellini’s cinema from putatively neorealist ideologies to unabashedly oneiric claptraps about the onus of an overly imaginative but waning masculinity—and it is, for all its Freudian bitchery and post-libidinous angst, one of the few personal statements in film utterly unhindered by stretches for social or cosmic relevance.

Any “Twin Peaks” fan worth their garmonbozia knows Episode 8 of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s revival season “The Return,” from 2017, is the visual and thematic standout. Directing, Lynch traces the origins of an evil presence named Judy — rooting it back to the U.S.’s development of the atomic bomb — in an episode that explains where the series-legacy killer “Bob” came from and how that force has landed now-dazed FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) in a detached red-room netherworld.

The first trailer for the third season of acclaimed adult animated series, Invincible, is expected to debut during Ccxp at some point tomorrow, but Prime Video mistakenly shared it on the streaming site a little early.
The teaser was quickly taken down, but not before some audio and quite a few high-quality screenshots were posted online.
Like yesterday's poster, it looks like the trailer is going to give away quite a few major plot points, including the fact that Mark Grayson and Cecil Steamman ultimately become enemies after some particularly shady dealings from the latter.
None of this will come as a surprise to anyone who's read the comics, but just in case, here's a spoiler warning.

The sci-fi franchises of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek have mirrored one another practically since day one. In fact, the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica came under fire on many occasions for supposedly copying Star Trek, and the reimagined 2004 BSG did, too. In spite of this heavy criticism, at its core, Battlestar Galactica has carved out its own niche, with its gritty but grounded approach honoring but still changing the Star Trek sci-fi formula.
While these two universes have each made their own unique mark on the sci-fi genre, it is undeniable that they do share many parallels. From a heavy focus on ethical concepts to overarching themes of the survival of the human race, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek have more in common than not. After releasing one of the finest dance albums of the year with their Challengers score this past April, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have once again teamed up with director Luca Guadagnino, and today, have released the score for his new A24 film, Queer.
Featuring a rousing, sample-heavy score inspired by the style of William S. Burroughs (the author of the original Queer novel), Reznor and Ross’ score adds depth and color to the Daniel Craig-starring film, capped off with the original song “Vaster Than Empires,” featuring Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso.
Throughout the score’s 16 tracks, the duo develops tension with layers of texture and refraining melodies, utilizing samples, pianos, synths, orchestral instruments and more. Stream it below.

Terrifier 3 being one of the biggest hits of 2024 may come as a surprise to some as it is not a long-established franchise or a movie with a budget in the hundreds of millions. Instead, it is a smaller budget production that is part of a franchise that had a rocky start. Terrifier 3 was a massive success at the box office, and its critical reception was also positive with a 77% critic score and 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Terrifier started as a small-budget movie that was known more for its deaths and iconic killer, Art the Clown than it is for its plot. Over the years, the franchise has grown and garnered a dedicated fan base and put other franchises to shame with the amount of money it earned compared to its more than reasonable budget. Terrifier 3's cliffhanger ending teases a fourth film, which initially seems like it will be the last.

There was a significant gap (over two years) between the first and second seasons of Prime Video's Invincible, but we had been assured that the wait for season 3 wouldn't be as long, which was recently confirmed via the release of the first teaser.
Invincible will return to our screens on February 6, 2025 - and there will be no pesky mid-season break!
Now, the streamer has released the first official season 3 key art for the adult animated series, and if you're not familiar with the comics, the image counts as a pretty big spoiler!
The recent teaser saw a now 19-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) meeting with Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins) in a café in a similar set-up to the season 2 teaser with Allen the Alien. Cecil is not happy (for a change) with Mark taking a lengthy break from crime-fighting, and tells the young hero that he needs more training if...

"Star Trek," which a very progressive franchise in many respects, has always had something of a fraught relationship with queerness. Gay or lesbian characters weren't wholly visible on the series, and dating couples tended to fall into the heteronormative. Near the end of his life in the early 1990s, "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry once idly mused that he'd like to depict two background male characters holding hands in a romantic way, but that's hardly a great spearhead for a progressive ideal.
There were occasional attempts to include queer stories in "Star Trek" throughout the 1990s, but they were few and far between. The "Next Generation" episode "The Outcast" was controversial even at the time (and one can read all about "The Outcast" in the pages of /Film), and the "Deep Space Nine" episode "Rejoined" did allow Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) to have a romantic relationship with a woman, but...
