Livingstone Lion's name is based off that of Scottish explorer and missionary Dr. David Livingstone, who is best known for his time in Africa and the famous phrase "Dr. Livingstone, I presume."
Several of this series' writers had previously worked with Steven Spielberg on the Warner Bros. Animated series Tiny Toon Adventures (1990), Animaniacs (1993), Freakazoid! (1995), Pinky and the Brain (1995) and Histeria! (1998).
