Chicago Fire is not done dishing out surprises. We were already processing the fact that Dermot Mulroney will be Firehouse 51's new chief, and now, we know that KaDee Strickland, former star of Private Practice (2017-13), will also be joining the show in season 13.
Strickland's role is actually tied to Mulroney's. It was already confirmed that Mulroney will play Dom Pascal, a veteran firefighter who is moving to the Windy City from Florida. He has a more relaxed vibe than his predecessor, and an estranged wife who lives nearby. Strickland will play the estranged wife.

Exclusive: NBC’s Chicago Fire has cast KaDee Strickland for a recurring role in Season 13. The new season begins Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. on NBC and next day on Peacock.
She will portray Monica Pascal, the new Fire Chief Dom Pascal’s (Dermot Mulroney) estranged wife. As Deadline reported in July, Mulroney joined the popular firefighter drama as Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) successor following his exit as a series regular in the Season 12 finale.
Before Boden was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department, he had chosen Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) as his successor. The introduction of Dom Pascal would interfere with that plan, and Eigenberg earlier this month shared insight with Deadline as to why Herrmann may pass on the opportunity.
“I want to say he felt like he had the rug pulled from under him because I don’t think [Herrmann] saw what...

In today’s TV landscape, nothing can be taken for granted. Plenty of shows never make it through a second season, and some don’t even make it through their first. Even a producer with a proven track record, like David E. Kelley, isn’t immune — he had a Fox show, The Wedding Bells, that was cancelled [...]

David E. Kelley is preparing another comeback – and this time, he’s leaving the traditional networks behind.
Kelley’s next series, the Billy Bob Thornton legal drama “Goliath,” debuts Oct. 14 on Amazon. Early next year, he’ll premiere HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley, and after that, DirecTV’s serial killer thriller “Mr. Mercedes.”

But here’s what’s not on Kelley’s docket: Anything in broadcast, where he once upon a time he was king.
“I don’t see a reason to, at this point,” Kelley told IndieWire. “If broadcast TV evolves and really cares about product more than exalting ratings over product, I might. If they got rid of commercials, I might. It’s just hard to succeed with good,...

The wedding bells are ringing for Emmy Rossum! The 29-year-old Golden Globe nominee was spotted outside in a simple white gown and matching veil. However, before you start pinning this bridal look to your Pinterest board of celebrity wedding dresses, here's a disclaimer—the actress was in the middle of filming a wedding scene on the set of her hit Showtime dramedy, Shameless. The former Metropolitan Opera singer portrays the wild oldest child and matriarch of the Gallagher clan, Fiona, in the successful cable show based around the musings of an alcoholic and his six children. It appears Rossum was caught in the middle of a scene for the show's upcoming sixth...

The wedding bells are getting louder for Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello. "It's going to happen soon," the Modern Family star told me earlier today at the Screen Actors Guild Foundation's Los Angeles Golf Classic, where she was honored with the inaugural Actors Inspiration Award. But don't going looking for the lovebirds because, Vergara said, their nuptials are taking place "very far away [in a] very secret place where nobody is going to find us." Oh? "It's on a plane," she cracked. The Magic Mike Xxl star popped the question on Christmas Eve while he and Vergara were on vacation in Hawaii. Vergara recently told Redbook...

Chicago – There are very few recurring weak points in the CBS lineup. They’ve been dominating total viewers for years with mega-hits like “NCIS” and “The Big Bang Theory.” But there is one thing they haven’t been able to figure out — something to partner with “Tbbt.”
After failing miserably with shows like “Rob!” and “How to Be a Gentleman,” they gave up and just moved “Two and a Half Men” to Thursday nights. That worked and so now they’re trying to expand the empire by pulling the night’s big hits apart and launching two programs in between. Neither are good and one is horrible. Ah well. Maybe they can move “2 Broke Girls” to Thursdays too.

If it’s not the hottest female role for next fall, it’s certainly among the top 5: NBC and Warner Bros. are currently on the lookout for an actress who’s popular, tough, gorgeous and sympathetic enough to play the classic comic book character in the network’s much-anticipated reboot. Easy, peasey: One on every corner of Hollywood, right?
Not exactly.
ABC didn’t make it any easier by locking up three 20-something beauties for its redo of Charlie’s Angels – another project that demands leads that are both likable and strong enough to carry such an important franchise.

Harry's Law, which according to the website apparently now has the tagline, "Go ahead. Make her case," premiered Monday on NBC, and it's been tough trying to follow the ratings banter that has followed. Did it make a strong showing as far as the ratings are concerned? It seems to depend on who you ask at any given moment. The numbers themselves aren't in dispute, but there is some disagreement as to what they mean.
Whether the ratings are "good" (because it's a January premiere, etc.), or "bad" (because it has Kathy Bates and David E. Kelley for crying out loud, etc.), doesn't mean a lot to me, though I find the argument interesting. The new legal dramedy, which also features Kathy Bates holding up a .44 Magnum on the website, after the big "reveal" of the pilot episode, ought to be the most discussed new show in years, because it is incomprehensibly,...

ABC is developing Plan This, a comedy project loosely based on the life of Beverly Hills-based party planner to the stars Mindy Weiss. The single-camera project, from ABC Studios, will be written by Freaky Friday writer Heather Hach who will serve as co-executive producer. Anonymous Content's Alex Goldstone and Elana Barry will executive produce the comedy, which has received a script commitment. Weiss has planned weddings and parties for such clients as Ellen Degeneres & Portia Rossi, Ashlee Simpson & Pete Wentz; Eva Longoria & Tony Parker; Heidi Klum & Seal; Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale; Jackie & Adam Sandler; Kate Beckinsale & Len Weisman; and Trista & Ryan of ABC's The Bachelorette televised wedding. Party planning is an area the networks have been trying to crack for some time with little success. The more notable efforts include the Fox/David E. Kelley series The Wedding Bells.

Now that September is here the networks are in the final sprint for the new 2010-2011 season. If you watch TV you probably will have seen many of these shows advertised. The new season lineup includes inevitable staples (classic cop and legal dramas) and more peculiar blends (The Shield’s Michael Chiklis in a family series playing a dad with superpowers, for example); some legendary names (Jj Abrams, Shawn Ryan, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg) and many fresh faces. A few shows like The Event (NBC), Running Wilde (Fox), Broadwalk Empire (HBO) or The Walking Dead (AMC) have already created buzz. For now, however, all of them are pure potential, waiting for their chance to conquer primetime. But despite any hopes or expectations, the only thing certain is that, among all of these promising shows, very few will make it to the second season mark.

Michael Landes has inked a talent holding deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
Under the one-year pact, which includes a development component, Landes will topline a series project developed for him or will be cast in an existing 20th TV pilot.

Fox's 'Amsterdam' has strong debut
The debut of Fox's drama New Amsterdam won the 9 p.m. hour Tuesday night with a solid premiere rating aided by a typically massive American Idol lead-in.
Amsterdam, about an immortal New York City detective, has been pushed around the schedule this season and critic reviews were lukewarm. But last night's debut was the second highest-rated show of the night after Idol (28.2 million viewers, 10.5 preliminary adults 18 to 49 rating and a 26 share) which dipped 5% from last week to hit a Tuesday night season low. Amsterdam (13.7 million, 4.6/11) retained 44% of the Idol rating, down a tick from the 46% held by last year's The Wedding Bells.
NBC was the No. 2 network across the board last night, with a two-hour Biggest Loser (8.7 million, 3.5/9) and a repeat "Law & Order: SVU" (9.4 million, 2.9/8).
CBS was third, with a repeat NCIS (10.6 million, 2.1/5) followed by Big Brother (6.7 million, 2.5/6) and Jericho (5.9 million, 1.8/5).
In fourth, ABC aired an hour of Just for Laughs (4.9 million, 1.4/3), According to Jim (5.6 million, 1.9/5) and the finale of Carpoolers (4.2 million, 1.5/4).

Landes, Fox ink talent deal
Michael Landes is extending his relationship with Fox Broadcasting Co. and 20th Century Fox Television.
Landes, who co-starred on David E. Kelley's dramedy The Wedding Bells for Fox and 20th TV, has signed a talent deal with the network and the studio.
Under the pact, 20th TV and Fox will develop a project for him targeted for the 2008-09 season.
"Michael is a great-looking leading man who is equally adept at comedy and drama," Fox executive vp casting Marcia Shulman said. "It was a no-brainer."
Landes, whose series credits include ABC's Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, UPN's Special Unit 2 and BBC's Love Soup, played wedding photographer David Conlon on Bells this past spring.
"He's just a charming, incredibly talented guy who I know is going to be a huge television star," 20th TV senior vp casting Sharon Klein said. "It's just a matter of time and finding him the right project."
Landes recently completed the Yari Film Group feature Addicted, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. He will next be seen in the Disney comedy College Road Trip.
Landes, whose theater credits include the male lead in the London West End production of When Harry Met Sally, is repped by Endeavor and attorneys Jason Sloane and Harris Hartman.

After a four week run, Fox says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly's The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited "The Wedding Palace" following their parents' divorce. The staff also includes Jane's husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on Fox following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.

Last calls for Fox's 'Bells,' CW's 'Heaven'
It's a wrap for 7th Heaven and David E. Kelley's midseason dramedy The Wedding Bells.
Heaven, which debuted in 1996 on WB Network and now airs on the CW, will have its series finale May 13 in its regular 8 p.m. slot.
Meanwhile, production will be shut down on Bells after completion of the seventh episode.
After receiving decent sampling in its premiere behind Idol, Bells quickly faded when it moved into its regular Friday time slot, most recently drawing 4.5 million viewers and a 1.5 rating/5 share among adults 18-49.
"While we've been pleased with the show creatively, and David's writing was first-rate, ('Bells') just didn't secure the ratings we'd hoped for," Fox said.
Four episodes of Bells have aired. For now, the network said it intends to air the remaining three segments.
Bells, from David E. Kelley Prods. and 20th TV, starred Teri Polo, KaDee Strickland and Sarah Jones as three sister running a wedding-planning business.
The hourlong final episode of Heaven, titled And Away We Go, will mark the second time the show was scheduled to have a series finale.

'Idol' dominates Wed.; 'Wedding Bells' rings
Fox's American Idol dominated another Wednesday night, while the network's new series Wedding Bells got off to a respectable start.
The performance Idol featuring the remaining eight female contestants drew 28.5 million viewers and 11.1 rating/30 share among adults 18-49, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research.
David E. Kelley's Bells received good sampling in its special preview behind Idol, averaging 12.5 million viewers and a 5.2/13 in 18-49 and ranking as the top program in the 9 p.m. hour. However, it held on to only 47% of its sizable Idol lead-in among 18-49, down from the 82% retention for the Fox's new quiz show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? the same night last week. Bells, a wedding planning dramedy starring Teri Polo, KaDee Strickland and Sarah Jones, also saw a 20% demo dropoff from the first to the second half-hour.
NBC's crime drama Crossing Jordan (8.0 million, 2.4/6) had a so-so return to the schedule in its new Wednesday 9 p.m. time slot but built on its Dateline lead-in by 20% among adults 18-49.

Three guests go full primetime
Missi Pyle, who is guest starring on the first episode of Wedding Bells, David E. Kelley's upcoming series for Fox, has joined the cast of the show as a regular.
Meanwhile, Henry Simmons, who has recurred on CBS' Shark since the series' second episode, has been upped to a regular. Also promoted to a regular status is Alicia Coppola, who has recurred on another freshman CBS drama, Jericho.
Bells, from David E. Kelley Prods. and 20th Century Fox TV, revolves around three sisters (Teri Polo, KaDee Strickland, Sarah Jones) running a family wedding-planning business. In the first episode, Pyle guest stars as a high-maintenance bride client, a character that is featured prominently in the on-air promos for the show. After her wedding, the former bridezilla will go on to become a board member of the company.
Pyle guest starred on Kelley's legal drama for ABC Boston Legal in November, which led to her guest stint on Bells. She also recently did a two-episode arc on NBC's Heroes.
On the feature side, she is filming Harold & Kumar 2 and next will be seen in Feast of Love, Spring Breakdown and Patriotville.
Pyle is repped by UTA, McKeon-Myones and attorney Neil Meyer.

Fox does midseason to 'Death'
The Brad Garrett-starring 'Til Death is getting a major boost from Fox, which will move the struggling freshman sitcom into the post-American Idol Wednesday 9:30 slot, beginning March 14.
The network will also use Idol as a launching pad for David E. Kelley's midseason dramedy The Wedding Bells, which will premiere after the reality juggernaut March 7 before moving to its regular Friday 9 p.m. time slot March 9.
Another midseason series, the Rob Corddry-starring comedy The Winner, will join Fox's Sunday lineup. It will premiere with two episodes, one at 8:30 p.m. and one in its regular 9:30 p.m. time slot March 4. Animated comedy American Dad, which airs in the Sunday 9:30 period, will go on hiatus for five weeks to make room for Winner.
Taking a page from the "24" playbook, Fox's third midseason series, race action Drive, will launch with a two-night, three-hour premiere Sunday, April 15, 8-10 p.m. and its regular Monday 8-9 p.m. time period April 16. On Monday, Drive will replace Prison Break, which will have wrapped it second season by then.
