We're getting to know The Film Experience community one-by-one. Today we're talking to Morgan Borthwick from New Zealand. We've never been but it's on our brains due to Jane Campion's stunning miniseries "Top of the Lake". Here's Morgan.
Hi, Morgan. Do you love Jane Campion? (Please note: There is only one correct answer to this question)
Morgan: Of course! She understands film is as much art as it is storytelling and I could rhapsodise all day about her many gifts. As a director, I love what she does with her actresses, particularly Barbara Hershey who is beyond superlatives in Portrait of a Lady, Abby Cornish in Bright Star and Elizabeth Moss in Top of the Lake, making me forget Peggy of Mad Men ever existed. She should have two best director nominations by now at least, but that's a gripe for another time about the academy and their "we've nominated you once,...

She's best mates with Lady Mary, but Ruth Wilson reveals why she sidestepped Downton in favour of Tolstoy
Ruth Wilson talks brusquely, in quick, ungainly sentences that take one back to her excellent Jane Eyre and make her seem, oddly, both older and younger than her 30 years. She is about to appear in Tom Stoppard's adaptation of Anna Karenina, directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley in the title role, is currently filming The Lone Ranger in Colorado, and shows every indication of joining the first ranks of Britain's leading ladies. "I've always been quite shy," she says. "Very confident but very shy." She laughs awkwardly. If there is such a thing as belligerent shyness, this is it what it looks like.
We are in a coffee shop in Manhattan, where Wilson is spending a few days before returning to Colorado. Anna Karenina is the first book adaptation...

Director Gives Second Arterton Sister A Big Break
British actress Gemma Arterton's younger sister has landed her first professional acting gig from the same director who gave the Bond girl her big break.
Director Stephen Poliakoff cast the Tamara Drewe beauty in BBC TV film Capturing Mary in 2007, when the brunette was still studying at acting school.
Now Hannah Arterton has caught the filmmaker's attention and he has handed the 22 year old a role in his new play, My City.
He tells London's Evening Standard, "It's a little diamond of a part, a supporting role, something that can be really noticed. We will see if history repeats itself."
Gemma and Hannah both trained at the British capital's revered Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) school.

Besides pronouncing her name for us, Gemma Arterton—whose first name is voiced with a soft "G" and whose last name is Arterton, not Atherton—is having to explain herself to America. The British actor is here promoting "Tamara Drewe," in which she plays the title character, an ugly duckling–turned-swan who returns to her hometown after quite the nose job. Arterton is not only discussing her craft with the American press; she's being asked about her pert, real-life nose. But Tamara's comedic flashback scenes, before surgery, are the ones that best reflect Arterton's deep talents. Those who know the actor only as a Bond girl ("Quantum of Solace") or as Princess Tamina ("Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time") might be stunned to realize that inside Arterton beats the heart of a character actor. The fragile naiveté of Tess in television's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles," the raunchy grit of...

6:30 So Kevin McHale of Glee was very nearly the first person "E!" has talked to that I remotely cared about. He's wearing a yellow bowtie -- I almost typed yellow boytoy -- Weird. I blame Madonna.
Glee Boys.
Kevin named Sally Field as his celebrity crush (!) and Brothers & Sisters as his favorite show. I hope he was conveniently forgetting this past season because it blew.
Moments before Ryan Seacrest was actually wishing Emmys on the Jersey Shore cast. I am so embarrassed for everyone. E! should have rechristened themselves S! for Shameless or Stoopid long long ago. But at least they changed their red carpet people and got rid of the silver haired pancaked makeup person.
6:40 Claire Danes looking gorgeous with relaxed hair and shimmery gown. A Truth: I sometimes wonder what Angela Chase would think of Claire Danes. It's not that...

HollywoodNews.com: The 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards will air toinght, and two stars from the “Harry Potter” films have been nominated for awards in non-Potter projects.
Michael Gambon and Maggie Smith have both been nominated in the “Miniseries or TV Movie” categories, with Gambon receiving an Outstanding Supporting Actor nod for his portrayal of Mr. Woodhouse in the PBS/BBC remake of Jane Austen’s Emma, and Smith’s nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress for her portrayal of Mary Gilbert in HBO’s Capturing Mary.
Gambon was previously nominated for an Emmy in 2002, for his role as President Lyndon Johnson in the drama “Path to War”. Claire Danes hasn’t done much TV since making an all-too-brief but memorable splash in 1994-1995 as the precocious teen star of the ABC drama My So-Called Life. Several dozen feature film roles have followed. But the 31-year-old Danes came back to TV and received rave reviews for her starring role as the autistic title character in the HBO biopic Temple Grandin that premiered in February. Her competition in the Primetime Emmy category as lead made-for-tv-movie/miniseries actress is formidable: Maggie Smith (Capturing Mary), Joan Allen (Georgia O’Keefe), Dame Judi Dench (Return to Cranford) and Hope Davis (The Special Relationship). Media see Danes as the favorite to cart off the trophy on August 29th for the film which generated 15 Emmy nominations in all. Danes spoke this week with Deadline Hollywood contributor Ray Richmond about the difficulty of portraying a living person -- yet how rewarding the experience turned out...

Al Pacino ("You Don't Know Jack") and Maggie Smith ("Capturing Mary") are the only two Emmy champs among the 10 nominees for lead performances in telefilms and mini-series. Both are also among the 17 performers to win the triple crown of acting. The veteran stage actor is batting a thousand with the Tonys, winning both of his bids for "Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie" (featured, 1969) and "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel" (lead, 1977). However, the patient Pacino had to wait till nomination No. 8 in 1993 before finally taking...

The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Award nominees were announced earlier today, and not surprisingly, HBO dominated the list with the help of the Steven Spielberg-produced mini-series The Pacific, which earned 24 nominations on its own. A lot of the usual suspects turned up as they always do (Mad Men, Dexter, 30 Rock, The Office), but there were a few new faces this time around too. The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien ironically earned a posthumous nod in the best variety, music or comedy series category, while Glee deservedly turned up in a number of the comedy categories, along with Modern Family. Lost also seemed to get a little more love than usual in its final season. There are a ton of different categories, but I've included a short list of the biggest ones after the jump. HollywoodNews.com: “Glee” fever is so strong that it swayed Emmy voters who lauded the TV show with 19 nominations. But that wasn’t the only show to catch their eye: HBO’s miniseries “The Pacific” harpooned 24 nods.
In years past, the Emmys use to favor those series which were on the air for seasons on end, often times honoring them later in their run. But in recent years, the organization has become open minded to frosh shows, evident in its embrace of Fox’s “Glee,” ABC sitcom “Modern Family,” CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.”
That said, the Emmys continue to have its favorites, i.e. “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad” and “30 Rock.”

Having landed the lead in this summer's biggest blockbuster, the 24-year-old talks fame, family and why she'll always be a Gravesend girl
"I am in a silly mood today," says Gemma Arterton. As she's bouncing around a photo studio in a gigantic feather duster of a dress trying to do an impression of Sesame Street's Big Bird, it's hard to disagree. So far Arterton's entertained the room with her Alison Steadman in Abigail's Party ("I love Demis Roussos") and an accurately nasal Kenneth Williams: "Oooaaahheeeuuh, heee taaaalked wiiith aaaall theeeese voouuuoowels." She's explained her utterly useless test for drunkenness in which she'd ask herself to multiply 12 x 12. "Then after a few years I realised I'd just memorised the answer 144 and I was actually pissed! What an idiot!"
Every so often she'll have a breather to debate the merits of the new Christian Louboutin thigh-length pom-pom boots or recent...

While Twihards seem to have been less than enthused by Robert Pattinson's Remember Me, they are no doubt preparing to stampede the world's cinemas for the remaining Twilight movies.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, helmed by David Slade, comes out in July and the final story, Breaking Dawn, is due in two parts sometime in 2011 but so far doesn't have a director.
Deadline is now reporting that Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters, Dreamgirls) is the number one choice to sit in the director's chair and is in negotiations with studio heads at Summit Entertainment. Other contenders on the shortlist are Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk), Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Reader) and Fernando Meirelles.
Meanwhile, The Sun reports that Little Britain star David Walliams (pictured) has been asked to audition for a part in Breaking Dawn as a member of the Cullen family.

Even in Francois Ozon's disappointing first English language film Angel, I'm still enraptured by the magnificence of Romola Garai. If ever there is an actress who can do no wrong, even if the movie is an utter failure, Garai would be that actress. In Steven Poliakoff's Glorious 39, Garai continues to shine.

The story centres on Anne Keyes, the daughter of a traditional English family, played by Atonement star Garai. Poliakoff said he was excited to be making a film about "the extraordinary machinations that went on in British society on the eve of war".
