The French star of Blue Is the Warmest Colour and new film Passages talks sex scenes, avoiding Hollywood and eating Toblerones in Jane Birkin’s bath

For Adèle Exarchopoulos, her first taste of film stardom was the literal taste of Toblerone. Then 13 years old, the young Parisian had just been cast in her first film, Jane Birkin’s autobiographical directing debut Boxes, and was invited round to the icon’s home. “I went to the bathroom to wash my hands,” Exarchopoulos recalls. “And I saw for the first time in my life a claw-foot tub. With a bowl of mini Toblerones next to it. And I was like: ‘Why are you eating chocolate when you’re taking a bath? This is so cool.’ And Jane said: ‘You want to sleep over? You can take a bath and eat some chocolate.’”

The Brazilian distributor launches Tucaman France to promote Brazilian and Latin American cinema and kicks off with Sand Dollars.

Geraldine Chaplin stars in Israel Cárdenas and Laura Amelia Guzmán’s Dominican Republic-set drama (Dólares De Areia) that will screen in Cinélatino Rencontres de Toulouse in France next week.

The showcase will also present Tucaman France’s Brazilian amateur football story Sunday Ball from Eryk Rocha.

The distributor’s line-up includes Rio 2096 - A Story Of Love And Fury (Brazil), The Other Side Of Paradise (Brazil), The Telescope Of Time (Brazil) and Chronicles Of The End Of The World (Colombia).

Tucuman Films launched in 2009 to release Latin American and European art house cinema in Brazil. Its roster includes Jealousy, La Ritournelle, Mr. Morgan’s Last Love and 7 Boxes.

Snowpiercer will be available on Blu-ray and DVD October 21, 2014. Visionary director Bong Joon Ho’s “enormously ambitious and visually stunning,” (Scott Foundas, Variety) film has been widely praised as “a superb masterpiece of science fiction” (MTV).

Horror fans are used to adjusting their critical faculties, often accepting perhaps a little less in the acting and characterisation departments. It's a fair enough trade-off; the more intense the horror, the smaller the budget, so they seldom attract big names. It's a rare horror film that truly delivers on the acting front while keeping things nice and scary. This is one of those rarities. Director Sean Byrne lucked out with a uniformly great cast here, notably with lead actress Robyn McLeavy as the terrifying Lola; the other standout is Xavier Samuel (Twilight Saga: Eclipse) as Brent, her main victim (a tough role as he's rendered mute by an injection of detergent into his throat early on).
