At 1 hour 26, in scenes shot with continuous sound, Rosie Gomez and Dave Robicheaux are first approaching the shack some distance apart, with a portakabin loo in the background. In the next scene, they are approaching the shack close together. In the the next scene, they are again approaching the shack apart, as the portakabin loo door begins to open. FBI agent Gomez uses a snub nose .38 caliber revolver on duty. FBI agents have a limited list of approved pistols. That list does not include any revolvers or .38 caliber weapons.
Hood never served in Louisiana during the Civil War, but lived and died in New Orleans after the war.
When Tommy Lee bashes the guy's head into the pay phone at the bus station, his head clearly goes between the phone and the divider, not hitting anything.
When Dave picks Doucet's lock, he inserts a hook into the lock, jiggles it briefly, and turns the deadbolt, which would never work. Any self-respecting lock picker knows you need a tension wrench to do the turning and the hook tool would need to move in and out to manipulate each pin before you would have any chance of successfully picking the deadbolt.
When Baby Feet's limousine is towed away, with back tires flat, there was no time enough for the tow operator to put dollies under the rear wheels , yet the car is towed forward . Nor did Baby Feet react to the car parked in front of the restaurant being hooked up by the tow truck .
At 1 hour 27 on, to cover Rosie Gomez shooting an unarmed Murphy Doucet, Dave Robicheaux takes a gun from his boot top, holding it by the handle with his right-hand index finger and thumb. He then transfers the handle into his full left hand, back to his right index finger and thumb and pushes it into Murphy Doucet's right hand. The ploy wouldn't work as the gun would have Dave Robicheaux's prints on it.
When a caller hangs up on Dave's cell phone, you hear a dial tone. Cell phones do not have dial tones.
When Dave gets out of his truck near Hogman's house, the boom operator is visible in the driver's side mirror.
The movie star rents a huge saltwater boat to go out into the Atchafalaya Basin. This may have been done to show the character's naiveté.
When FBI agent Gomez is holding her firearm in a ready position as she and Dave search Ducet's property looking for Alafair, she grips the handgun like a person who has little or no experience using firearms. No trained FBI agent would hold their handgun with the support hand directly under the bottom of the gun grip.
