Prolific American actor who was Oscar nominated for roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and To Be Or Not to Be

The American actor Charles Durning, who has died aged 89, first grabbed audience attention as the crooked Lieutenant Snyder in The Sting (1973). He makes an explosive appearance, tearing down an alley after the slick grifter played by Robert Redford, and repeatedly lurches out of the shadows throughout the rest of the film. Durning had only a handful of scenes, and over the next 40 years would seldom be granted more screen time in 200-odd film and TV roles. Nevertheless, his jowly face, with its boxer's nose and sly eyes, grew increasingly familiar, and his name in the opening titles usually promised good things ahead. His heavyset frame meant he was often cast as tough guys, but he later assumed more jovial roles, portraying Father Christmas several times.

The First poster and character shots have been unveiled for upcoming 80s-set cannibal/slasher film The Locals, as well as full details of the story and cast.

The poster (see above) was designed by comic book artist Dennis Willman. The film is directed by Eric Anthony Pereira, who previously did second unit directing on Piranha 3D and various episodes of the TV series House.

When I first met actress and producer Brooke Lewis in 2009, she struck me as someone who has an unmatched passion and enthusiasm for the horror genre. Independent horror flick Straight On Till Morning is to auction off a role to raise funds for a cancer charity.

The creative team have announced they will be offering a one-line role in their upcoming feature in support of Bowling For Boobies, a fundraising fixture on the horror community calendar.

Filming will start in Los Angeles this month on Dog Fight, a horror film which also includes action, crime and torture elements.

According to the official description, the plot "revolves around an underground fighting ring whose competitors are made up of women who have been kidnapped and 'broken' - essentially being turned into rabid dogs psychologically."

But, despite that potentially controversial storyline, you may be surprised to learn it's been scripted by two women and has two female producers.

Written by Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska (pictured top), the twin team behind Dead Hooker in a Trunk, it is being directed by Sean-Michael Argo, whose feature Fable: Teeth of Beasts screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Some new images have arrived for upcoming sci-fi film 15 Till Midnight, which last month wrapped principal photography and unveiled its first trailer.

Rotten Apple Productions, Wolfpak Industry Productions, and Zeroinside Films are behind the project, which is directed by Wolfgang Meyer (The Gate of Fallen Angels) from the script by Brandon Slagle (star of Methodic, also appeared in Kinky Killers and Duplicity). The trailer went live at 15 minutes before midnight on its day of release.

The film, described as "a genre-bending combination of science fiction, horror, action, and mystery", stars Slagle (pictured right) as a man caught between parallel worlds, having followed a different path in each.

Soon he finds himself pursued by a group of men calling themselves simply The Knowers, a sect that manages the paradoxes created when individuals find themselves crossing from one world to the next - essentially maintaining a balance between each existence.

Amphibious 3D bills itself as "The First Dutch 3D Horror Movie" and Michael Pare (Kinky Killers), Jana Fassaert (Couples Retreat), and Monica Sayangbati are set to star in this Indonesian shot creature feature. The film was photographed in stereoscopic 3D and the film's story involves a biologist on the hunt for prehistoric life form samples (Uhm). Be careful what you wish for. This event begins October 29th and will take place over two days. The films to show have not been announced, but several more attendees can be found inside.

15 Till Midnight is announcing that principal photography has begun on the film in Brooklyn and Coney Island. The film bends genres by incorporating science fiction and horror themes. So far the cast includes Bradon Slagle (Kinky Killers), Andrea Chen, Dee Martin (Notorious), and Devanny Pinn (Piranha 3-D). The film involves the inter-relationship between two "parallel worlds" whose dependence is "shaken" by the disappearance of a man's wife (15 Till). The film will release in November of this year to select cities; fans are encouraged to follow this film closely, as horror plus science fiction are a combination created in a twisted, but glorious hell.

Rotten Apple Productions, in conjunction with the newly formed Wolfpack Industries and in association with Zeroinside Films, have officially begun principal photography on the anticipated sci-fi/thriller (previously covered in many genre-based publications – both horror as well as science fiction based) 15 Till Midnight. Filming is taking place primarily in the Brooklyn and Coney Island areas of New York City.

The film is written by and stars Brandon Slagle (Showtime Channel’s Kinky Killers, Methodic, and who recently signed on to play Chainsaw Sally’s nemesis, a serial killer named Angel Eyes in the upcoming second season of the Chainsaw Sally Show), NYC stage actress Andrea Chen (who recently appeared in Kid Cudi’s video for the single “Pursuit of Happiness”), Dee Martin (Notorious), and Devanny Pinn (Bad Girls Burn in Hell, Piranha 3-D, 12-24). The film also features Andrew Roth (Methodic, Crossed), Manoush (Barricade, La Petit Mort), and NYC stage actress Olivia Baseman.

The DeeDee Bigelow and Antonio Olivas project, The Perfect Serial Killer is now in the pre-production phase with a huge cast list announced. Currently, The Perfect Serial Killer is undergoing script revisions. As well, the project will feature Courtney Gains (Shadowheart), Brooke Lewis (Kinky Killers), and Katie Lohmann. A director for the project will be announced shortly. For now, an early concept poster is above with a full cast list below.

Here at JustPressPlay, we get a lot of solicits from independent productions announcing their latest project. A lot of them have a hard time standing out, but once in a while, there's a movie that comes across our way that's just too attractive to ignore. Yes, I'm using "attractive" liberally here—after all, the movie is called Dogshit.

Just what the hell is Dogshit? It appears to be a surreal post-apocalyptic live action-animation hybrid from director Jimmy Creamer, better known (among his subjects, I guess) as speedcore artist "ScreamerClauz." Check out the crazy synopsis of his film, then the 5-minute trailer below.

Director Wolfgang Meyer is tuning 28Dla.com's antenna in to the multi-genered feature 15 Till Midnight. Casting is close to completion, with Andrea Chen portraying character Sera and Devanny Pinn (Piranha 3-D) appearing. Rounding out the female cast is Olivia Baseman, who plays Cipher a soothsayer, similar to Tiresias, an often present character in Greek tragedy. A mild diversion, the Oracle from the Matrix is a good example of soothsayer, but no one compares to Tiresias, the man who changed into a woman for seven years, after killing a snake. This character and others like him appear in drama and art that often involves doom of some sort or another, for a central character. Back from that tangent, principal photography for 15 Till Midnight begins April 19 in Brooklyn, New York. New York based Rotten Apple Productions has announced 15 Till Midnight as their next project, following up on the recently completed The Gate of Fallen Angels . Actor Brandon Slagle ( Kinky Killers ) will topline the cast of the sci-fi/horror pic, as well as co-direct (along with exec producer Dave Meyers) from a script written by Slagle. "Kinky Killers" from director George Lekovic is a film that brings back to life some ancient myths and parables from the post-Christian world. Starring Michael Pare, Mark Belasco and Brooke Lewis "Kinky Killers" is an enjoyable ninety minutes despite a flurry of changing scenes and the appearance then disappearance of lesser known actors.

The film sets the horror mood early as the action takes place in and out of New Jersey where several murders have taken place. The murderer appears to be a serial killer and a man early on, but the true killers are not shown until late in the film.
