This is the fourth and final collaboration between Jean-Claude Brialy and Dominique Blanc. They had previously acted together in Queen Margot (1994), Les acteurs (2000) and Jean-Claude Brialy.
Producer Daniel Leconte initially pitched a film about Pablo Picasso to television channels. Upon being turned down, he came up with the idea of making a film about Max Jacob.
Dan Franck's screenplay was deemed too long and had to be condensed to fit the under 90 minute runtime, instead of the two hours it was fit for.
Was shot in twenty-three days.
