Having just watched the 2021 comedy "Supercool" from writers Olli Haikka and Ali Moussavi, I must say that I was somewhat expecting a tad more than what director Teppo Airaksinen actually managed to deliver here.
Sure, "Supercool" was a watchable movie, but at the same time it was also a very generic movie of its kind. And it falls into the kind of comedy that once you've seen one of those kinds, then you've essentially seen them all. And on that account then "Supercool" failed to be outstanding.
The storyline told in "Supercool" was watchable, but the movie was seriously lacking funny moments. I think I only laughed a single time throughout the course of the entire movie, and that was during the gunshot scene after having crashed the car.
It was perhaps the somewhat forced and rigid dialogue that didn't really work out as intended throughout the course of the movie. The jokes were flat and fell short.
I wasn't familiar with lead actor Jake Short, but he certainly was well-cast for a movie such as "Supercool". But it was actor Damon Wayans Jr. And actress Iliza Shlesinger that added the most memorable material to the movie.
Once the movie ended, I was left with a sense of 'was that really it?', because the movie didn't really deliver a whole lot of great entertainment. And this is certainly not a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.
My rating of "Supercool" lands on a very generic and bland five out of ten stars.

There are so many similarities to the amazing and hilarious Superbad. From the type of crass dialogue to the situations to the motivations. The crazy adventure, meeting crazy people on the way. The story/characters going in separate directions before reconnecting. The wacky cop buddies. They even copied the title!
This movie made me laugh a lot, especially Gilbert and Jimmy. And when it comes to comedies, laughs can usually override an otherwise bad movie. Unfortunately for this movie, every non-comedic part is horrendous.
The story makes no sense. So many things that happen are so illogical. I can accept any premise, but the farther we get into the movie the more we realize the infinite number of flaws with the premise. Neil's plan is complete nonsense. Everything is awkward. Conflicts and resolutions are clunky.
It basically fails at everything... except the comedy. I had a good time and finished it with a smile. Which is why I went with 5 stars rather than 2 stars. But if it fired on all cylinders like Superbad (characters and story), it could have been an awesome comedy. I miss those. (1 viewing, 3/11/2022)

This was a pretty good story tho nothing really unique. The acting was subpar, but the casting is what made it impossible to pull off; I mean, the geeky guy who gets to be supercool should be a lot geekier and less good looking than the Super Cool guy he becomes, right? So that didn't work for me and, in general, the dialog tries too hard to be funny with crudetalk but falls flat. If this is a student film it's a great effort but I don't think it makes pro standards.

Tried it out based solely on the actors on the advertisement. But the first 5 minutes were unbearably bad.
It may be just that it is for a much younger audience, but then that doesn't account for the crass nature and language.

Compared to some of the high budget films, I enjoyed this movie. Did a good job of releasing me from my day to day stress by bringing a lots of smiles.
Overall the team has done a great job.
If you love "Free Guy"... You will love this.

C'mon. The reviews are ridiculously opposite of how this movie makes you feel, throughout the flick and at the end.
This is a much better, applicable movie, for those of us (vast majority) who had an uncomfortable and difficult middle school/high school years and most people will admit.
If you had awkward moments in school, then you'll love this movie. It helps us all realize that being different is ok. Eventually, people will end up liking us for being US.
Screw the reviews, smile, and enjoy watching this movie.
Watch the movie with an open mind. Think about your emotions while growing up, puberty, and the inability for our parents to understand and explain the cycle of life. My lord, my Dad was so uncomfortable that he handed me a book and said read it, and if you have any questions, come talk to me.
He was the GREATEST MAN I EVER KNEW, and he still didn't understand how to explain the "Birds and the Bees" because he was never taught by his parents.
This movie will give you an opportunity to feel many different emotions, but most importantly, how it was to grow up and feel better about it.
Bet you'll smile and enjoy the end. Good.

This movie is really quite good viewing. I enjoyed the story and the casting was great. It won't make you laugh so much as just enjoy the adventure of a movie that from the title you may think is going to be a bit of a stupid film. The title reminded me of Superbad of course but it's a different movie. It's a bit like when Ace Ventura Pet Detective came out and I thought but butt... what about The Adventures of Ford Fairlane Rock'n'Roll detective, which I saw at the cinema and loved. To me Ace Ventura was bit like it was trying to be that movie but it turns out it's a different movie. OF course all movies are slightly different but in these four cases they are their own animals. This movie is pretty cool to watch.
Supercool reminds me a lot of Superbad (2007). It is a dirty teen buddy comedy about high schoolers trying to get laid by getting their hands on booze. In this regard both films are very similar, but that's where the similarities end. Supercool is a little more urban, the two teens are of different ethnic backgrounds, and the dynamic between them is also different from Superbad. In the case of Supercool on of the teens is very uptight but competent and the other one is a complete idiot. There is clearly a very strong bond between them but that is the only thing that's not clearly established. The filmmakers just make it seem as if the characters grew up together. I really liked this indie because they did something really far out with the dialogue - it is very slang-heavy. Some of it is real world slang and some of it was engineered for the film. This is not a movie you can just put in the background a follow along. You have to make sense of the slang in order to understand what's happening. If you stick around during the credits the filmmakers have a breakdown of every slang word used in the film and their meaning. I loved how original the dialogue was, the South Florida cinematography, and fast pacing. Would recommend if you liked Superbad.
