If you're a Prince fan, or even if your a new to his royal badness's music, this doc is well worth your time.
All the info about his childhood, things even as a big fan i had no idea about, was eye opening. This film really brings you back to where it all started almost like looking through your own families photo album, afro and all.
The only thing missing is his music which must have hurt the producers when they were denied access to the purple one's discography. It would have been nice to hear his music, but in the end the doc hits all the purple notes regardless of the fact his music is missing.
I highly recommend this film because you can see the love the people involved put into it... real Prince fans for sure.
PS.
I played prince in the background while watching. I suggest you do it as well.

Every deep Prince fan like myself is hungry for content that honors our beloved icon. Most documentaries use the approach of covering the topic of Prince as a celebrity, a musician, and an icon.
This documentary , through a wonderful combination of interviews from celebrities and Minneapolis locals alike, paints the picture of Prince as a fellow human.
We hear about his childhood and formative years from those who grew up alongside him. We hear about his disposition and work ethic from former classmates, friends, and mentors. We hear of a culture of musical philanthropy that helped support him, shape him, and set an example for Prince that he upheld for all his remaining days on this earth with us.
I LOVE this film, and intend to do anything I can to support the beautiful souls who made it. What a gift!!

I grew up in Minneapolis eight years Prince's junior. Like so many, his music was the soundtrack to my life and I recall hearing about those Grand Central parties when I was in junior high and high school. What I found particularly fascinating about this documentary was the deep exploration into the North side of Minneapolis, The Way, the Black community, the origins, rise and history of the Mpls sound and race relations in the city as a whole. The footage of Old Mpls was also incredible. Thank you for making this movie!
