On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin this July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. Things got back on track in late August with the hiring of a new showrunner – and that person is Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer of It: Welcome to Derry,...

There is no doubt about it: Agatha All Along was one of the best TV shows of 2024. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sensation was a spinoff of WandaVision, bringing the Emmy-nominated Kathryn Hahn back for another amazing round as captivating witch Agatha Harkness. Like its predecessor, it thrilled audiences with gripping weekly adventures that were so different from each other and kept all of us guessing every time.
The Disney Plus show took Agatha and her coven - and all of us as viewers - down, down, down The Witches' Road, as they all sought to make it to the end and achieve their prize. What waited for them were trials - both actual trials and emotional ones - as they attempted to overcome their fears and reclaim their power.

Back in December of 2020, Marvel announced that they were developing a Disney+ series called Armor Wars, which would star Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, the armor-wearing hero known as War Machine. In August of 2021, Yassir Lester, who worked with Cheadle on the Showtime series Black Monday, was hired to be the show’s lead writer – and it was said that Lester’s pitch for Armor Wars had really excited Marvel executives, as well as Cheadle himself. In 2022, it was said that the events of the Disney+ series Secret Invasion would lead directly into the story of Armor Wars, which was expected to start filming in 2023. But in September of 2022, plans changed. Marvel announced that the six-episode series was being changed into a feature film, as they were “committed to getting the story told the right way and in that process realized that a feature was better suited for the project.

All told, Marvel Studios will probably be happy to bid farewell to Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when its concluding installment, "Thunderbolts*," kicks off the 2025 summer movie season in May. Though there have been a couple of blockbusters in this six-film cycle ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and "Deadpool & Wolverine"), the phase got off to a rough start in 2023 with the critical and commercial disappointment of "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania." It then went on to hit even choppier waters with the box office failure of "The Marvels," leading some to wonder if the McU's spectacular run, which stretches back to 2008's "Iron Man," had finally come to an end.
With Marvel having caught a breather in 2024 with the preordained success of "Deadpool & Wolverine," we'll finally learn just how much (or little) audiences are invested in the ongoing MCU saga when "Captain America: Brave New World...

You have to give it to Matt Murdock — he's one persistent man. He survived being stabbed by a member of the Hand, an entire building falling over him, and worse of all: The fallout of the Netflix and Disney deal. While there was a time when audiences weren't sure whether we'd see more of Daredevil on live-action projects, everything changed the day he made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and helped clear Peter Parker's name. Now, it's time for someone else to return the favor and make an unexpected cameo in Matt Murdock's first stand-alone series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Daredevil: Born Again is just around the corner, and there are many things to look forward to. From the rise of the Kingpin to power as the mayor of New York to the long-awaited debut of The Punisher in the MCU. Besides, Muse is shaping up...

Daredevil: Born Again has undergone major changes since first being announced by Marvel Studios with a creative overhaul upping the action and bringing the series more in line with Netflix's Daredevil.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane has already suggested that the Man Without Fear's She-Hulk: Attorney at Law cameo will be ignored due to it not fitting in with Born Again's darker, violent tone. Now, Kingpin actor Vincent D'Onofrio has strongly hinted that the super-strong Wilson Fisk we saw in Hawkeye has become a little more grounded.
"They were kind of different iterations of the Fisk from the original show," the actor shared with SFX. "My job is to service the story. Hawkeye was one style of show, very far away from the Netflix series, and the way Fisk was written itself - which was really good - was a completely different world."

2024 saw just two live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe shows arrive on Disney+. First out of the gate was the "Hawkeye" spin-off "Echo," which ended after just one season, becoming a limited series like "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." Then there was another spin-off in the form of "Agatha All Along," which focused on Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness, who we first met in 2021's "WandaVision." Unfortunately for fans of the show, it looks like this spin-off is going to be a one-and-done as well.
The confirmation came from cast member Patti LuPone, who played Lilia in the series. The actor revealed rather firmly that "Agatha All Along" season 2 isn't happening. "There won't be one," LuPone said bluntly when asked about it on an episode of SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live" radio show. So, that is that. Marvel Studios made the decision to branch out into television when launching the Multiverse Saga. That brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the Disney Plus streaming service with some brand new original content that continued the adventures that kicked off on the big screen over 20 movies prior to that. Its first series WandaVision achieved critical acclaim, earning the franchise its first Emmys, while subsequent outings have also given the spotlight to beloved characters that didn't get the focus in the movies that they needed.
Through each original series, fans have wondered if they will return for second seasons, or if they will remain the miniseries that they were envisioned as by the studio. Most have remained limited series, some have returned for second seasons (and one even a third), while others have been on the good end of rumors about potential renewals in the near-future.

Daredevil: Born Again is bringing back some highly-anticipated characters from the original Netflix Defenders shows, bringing many of them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. The official trailer for Daredevil: Born Again has officially dropped, revealing some delectable details about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest Disney+ series. Ever since Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin returned to the small screen in Hawkeye, expectations were high for Daredevil and his related cast to officially reprise their roles in the MCU. Daredevil: Born Again is primed to do just that, re-introducing some long-awaited familiar faces.
At first, it wasn't clear if the appearance of Kingpin and Daredevil were meant to simply homage the Netflix continuity with the same actors, or if Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox were indeed playing the same exact supervillain from the previous series. However, the dramatic conclusion of Echo revealed Kingpin's memories, assuring that the events of...

It's been nearly six years since Chris Evans' Captain America retired from the MCU in Avengers: Endgame, but the erstwhile Avengers leader has been referenced every year since his departure save for one notable exception. Steve Rogers' MCU arc came to a satisfying conclusion in Avengers: Endgame when, for the first time, Steve capitalized on the opportunity to look out for number one and visit the 1940s to be with Peggy Carter. Returning to the present after having lived several decades, Rogers remains coy about his life with Peggy and bequeaths his shield and mantle to Sam Wilson.
Despite ostensibly bowing out of the MCU at this point, the Multiverse Saga has been replete with references to Cap, ensuring that his legacy endures to an extent that even exceeds that of Tony Stark. In fact, every year since has featured at least one nod to Steve Rogers, with the obvious...

Hopes are high and expectations are even higher for Marvel Studios' slate of upcoming programming. 2024 was a big year for the studio as it successfully developed its new less-is-more strategy and made it a reality. Its sole cinematic release, Deadpool and Wolverine, was a roaring box office success, while Agatha All Along performed extremely well for Disney Plus and brought awards buzz back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It was the victory that Marvel needed after a pretty lackluster 2023, and all sights are now set on its upcoming projects this year to see if it can sustain the momentum. The year kicks off for it with animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - an McU-adjacent project that will give us a look into the origins of a Peter Parker variant.
The show's premiere is just weeks away and it's set to make history in a way that none of the other Marvel shows have.

It’s been a long time since Marvel’s Daredevil had wrapped its run on Netflix. Thereafter, although we got a glimpse of Matt Murdock in projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home, we were yet to watch him as the frontman of his own project. And now, the MCU finally put an end to that wait by releasing the first official trailer for Daredevil: Born Again.

Details about Daredevil: Born Again have been revealed, with news about the MCU show's cast, release info, and more being reported. The original Daredevil series premiered on Netflix in 2015 and followed Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) as he learned to balance his life as a lawyer and as Daredevil. The show was abruptly canceled in 2018 - which came as a surprise since it had high viewership and was critically acclaimed. Eventually, the series was brought onto Disney+ as the rights were reverted back to Marvel, which then gave the MCU a chance to create Daredevil: Born Again.

The star-power is reportedly set to continue finding its way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise is undefeated when it comes to Hollywood's heavyweight movies series, dominating the big screen for the better part of two decades. In recent years, it has turned its attention to the small screen too, making its presence felt among the most popular streaming shows every year since WandaVision launched in 2021. And the stars always come out for the MCU.
Rumor has it that Marvel is planning on bringing one of them back in the not-too-distant future, and that it will be looking to add some more star-power to it too. The Marvel Cinematic Universe took a slight break in 2024; the only entries were the loosely-connected film "Deadpool & Wolverine," the "Hawkeye" spinoff show "Echo," and the witchy Disney+ series "Agatha All Along" (along with the third and final season of the animated multiverse anthology "What If...?").
But now in 2025, the MCU is soaring back in full strength, starting with "Captain America: Brave New World." Following on from the "Falcon and The Winter Soldier" Disney+ series, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has officially stepped into the role of Captain America for the franchise's fourth film. Sam is set to find himself in an international conspiracy of Hulk supporting characters, from President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford), aka the Red Hulk, to the long-unseen twisted scientist Samuel Sterns/The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson).
So, of course, it's time for movie synergy. Sam is the Captain America in Jed MacKay's "Avengers" right now...

The new year promises to bring with it plenty of highly-anticipated TV shows. Among the most anticipated is Daredevil: Born Again, the long-awaited sequel series / revival of Netflix's Daredevil series, which will stream on Disney Plus this March.
Charlie Cox returns in the title role, bringing The Man Without Fear back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his debut "official" appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Echo. But even though those were his first Marvel Studios appearances, the events of the original Daredevil series have since been retroactively welcomed into the MCU canon, making this upcoming show a sequel.
Marvel has yet to release the full-length trailer for the show, but it has been offering up some snippets and teases of what to expect. Now, some brand new first look images have given us another glimpse of Matt Murdock's return, and this time he's not alone.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to lay the foundations for the culmination of the Multiverse Saga, fans are beginning to look ahead to some of the projects that may take place after that particular chapter reaches its conclusion. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will act as a two-act ending to the story, just as the previous two Avengers movie wrapped up the Infinity Saga.
The irony is that some of these projects may end up being movies or TV shows that were initially expected to be a part of the Multiverse Saga but, for one reason or another, just never made it to the screen before Doctor Doom's showdown with the Avengers took form. That could mean there will be some tinkering needed, but it will be worth it if these projects come to fruition.

With Netflix's Defenders Saga being incorporated into the MCU, one timeline reveal makes Kingpin's upcoming role in Daredevil: Born Again even more intimidating than ever before. Daredevil: Born Again will premiere March 4, 2025, making it the first live-action Daredevil series to be produced by Marvel Studios. Daredevil: Born Again features a familiar cast of characters, with Matt Murdock, Kingpin, Punisher and others returning after three seasons on Netflix.
Prior to his return in Daredevil: Born Again, Kingpin made his grand appearance in the MCU timeline via a small role in Hawkeye before becoming a significant part of Echo. In the Echo series, a flashback scene shows Maya fighting Daredevil, which takes place during the five-year time period between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. This means Daredevil was never snapped, meaning Kingpin's reclamation of power makes him even more dangerous.

Last November, we learned that Marvel Studios had reportedly given up on producing a Young Avengers movie. Instead, the focus has reportedly shifted to bringing the Champions to Disney+.
It's hard to deny that the moment for the Young Avengers to assemble has passed. Fans have pointed out for years that the characters who fit under that umbrella are ageing up quickly, and the clear lack of focus in the Multiverse Saga's early stages did little to get them where they needed to be for a team-up.
The search for a Champions showrunner has, however, begun and the main reason we're getting a movie instead of a TV show is supposedly down to The Marvels underperforming at the box office last year.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has also discussed the importance of protecting the Avengers brand and a Young Avengers spin-off that doesn't live up to expectations would risk tarnishing the main event movies.

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is a fan-favorite character in the MCU. His last live-action role was in the Hawkeye series, though he technically lent his voice to the What If…? Season 2 episode, ‘What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas.’
Disney+ shows don’t often get second seasons, except for ‘Loki,’ which had an even better second season. But a few months ago we reported that MCU might be breaking this trend since it’s been heavily rumored that ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2 is in development!
Bear in mind that no official confirmation for the show exists, but thanks to the industry insider we know a thing or two about the plot.
Kate Bishop is set to play a much larger role in Season 2, as she has officially taken up the Hawkeye mantle. Additionally, the show is expected to maintain its winter setting.

Back when the first season of Hawkeye was still in production, there were rumors that the Disney+ series would feature Clint Barton's villainous brother Barney, aka Trickshot. The character obviously never appeared, but we recently heard that he was expected to make his MCU debut in the planned - though still not officially announced - season 2.
Now, scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Marvel Studios has made an offer to an A-list actor to play Barney, who will most likely serve as the primary antagonist of the season. We don't have a name, but Richtman expects the character to factor into "multiple projects" going forward.
In the comics, Charles "Barney" Barton looked out for his younger brother, teaching him how to fight and improve his aim as they attempted to coexist with their abusive father. The pair eventually joined a carnival, becoming enamoured with Jacques DuQuesne/Swordsman, who took Clint on as his mentee.

Jeremy Renner celebrated his second “rebirthday” after his near-fatal snowplow accident left him with 30 broken bones in 2023.
The “Hawkeye” star rang in the start of 2025 by sharing his New Year’s blessings in a social media post alongside a photo of doctors and nurses next to him during his recovery in the hospital. “Ringing in my second ‘ReBirthday’ today,” Renner wrote, marking two years since the accident on New Year’s Day 2023.
“I send out my love, respect and gratitude for the army of people that it took to put me back together again,” Renner continuedT. “Thank you to each and every nurse, doctor, first responder… I literally owe you my life. All my heart goes out to my beautiful, brave nephew and the angels (my neighbors) who jumped to my aid and endured the chaos for 45 long minutes on the icy asphalt New Years morning.”

No original Avenger is confirmed for Marvel's 2025 lineup, but one needs to appear to resolve a glaring story issue. 12 years after The Avengers, only a few of the original team are still active in the MCU timeline. Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed themselves to defeat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and Captain America retired with Peggy Carter. Thor, Bruce Banner, and Hawkeye are the only original MCU Avengers left, and they still have more to do. However, it's unknown when these characters will return next.
The McU's 2025 lineup includes three movies and three Disney+ shows. Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye aren't expected in any of these projects, but Hawkeye has connections to Thunderbolts* and Daredevil. While Hawkeye wouldn't have a starring role, the character needs to return in 2025 to address the narrative ties he has to these two projects.

The early review scores on Rotten Tomatoes for the McU's final release of 2024 have changed the bottom of the ranking of Marvel TV shows released in the Disney+ era, with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law moving off the inauspicious podium. Tatiana Maslany's 2022 show still holds the lowest Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, at 32%, but critics scored it higher at 79% amid speculation about review bombing from users.
What If...? season 3 has now dropped into the McU's bottom 3 for TV shows on Rotten Tomatoes, for both Critics Score and Audience Score. The early Critics Score for the current multiversal show is at 75%, while the Audience Score is lower at 56%. Only 2024 opener Echo (70%) and Secret Invasion (52% have lower Critics Scores as things stand), while the McU's lowest-rated show Secret Invasion (44%) and She-Hulk (32%) have lower Audience Scores.

Shang-Chi and his sister, Xu Xialing, were introduced to the MCU in the first Shang-Chi movie as the children of the dreaded Wenwu, an abusive father and leader of the infamous Ten Rings clan. Kate Bishop made her MCU debut in the Hawkeye miniseries as a fan of the titular character and was expected to take on the mantle. These characters obviously existed in the 21st century, but the sixth episode of What If Season 3 imagines what would happen if they were outlaws in the Wild West of the 1800s going after a mysterious villain, known only as the Hood, who targets Chinese immigrants looking for a better life. Will they establish an environment of unity and diversity, or will they succumb to the atmosphere of racism polluting the air of the American frontier? Let’s find out.

As we look ahead to the new year, Disney+ is gearing up to release exciting new content for its global audience. We're talking about shows such as Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again and Andor season 2. However, for various reasons, there are some Disney+ shows that won't be returning with additional installments in the new year.
It could be because they were billed as miniseries, meaning that they were designed to conclude after only one season, which wrapped up this year. Another reason for them not returning could be that they won't be finished with the filmmaking process in time to make a 2025 release. There are also some Disney+ shows that won't be back next year because they ended or were canceled this year. Whatever the reason for them not returning, we're definitely going to miss them!

Ever since Marvel Studios made its presence felt on the Disney Plus streaming service, things haven't been the same for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise once dominated the silver screen; now, it's dominating the small one, too. Granted, there have been some ups and downs along the way, some wins and some losses for the franchise, but all in all, it's helped expand the MCU in new ways, opening it up to vastly different methods of storytelling and new kinds of tales.
It all started with WandaVision in 2021, and that first year continued to produce hits like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If...?, and Hawkeye, while more came in the years that succeeded it. It was clear: Marvel had a new vision for small screen domination, and it was pulling it off. What wasn't quite as clear was whether any of these shows would return for second seasons.

During the holiday season, audiences are always looking for something with a clear festive spirit to make their Christmas-watching fun and nostalgic. Ironically, one of this year's most popular options is Netflix's Black Doves, a gripping espionage thriller series starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw. Although its story is quite dark and gritty at times, Black Doves' soundtrack features some classic holiday songs that help create a wintery atmosphere throughout the story.
Hawkeye is another recent example of a streaming-released festive TV show that became essential viewing for the holiday season, and this year, it may be competing with Black Doves for those viewing numbers. These are two excellent series, and while Hawkeye certainly ranks among the MCU’s best TV shows, Black Doves is an equally strong option for this year's Christmas viewing parties.

The MCU has a lot of projects in the pipeline, both in movies and TV shows. Some, like the Nova series and Vision Quest, were confirmed months ago, while others, like Hawkeye Season 2 and a show about Wiccan, are still just rumors.
Now, insider Daniel Richtman has reported on his Patreon that a Strange Academy series is “officially” in development at Marvel Studios. This is the first time this particular show has been mentioned.
In the comics, Strange Academy is about a magical school founded by Doctor Strange in New Orleans to teach young sorcerers. The students come from all over the Marvel Universe, including humans, Asgardians, demons, and other mystical beings.
The story of Strange Academy follows students as they learn to control their magical powers, face challenges, and deal with friendships and rivalries. Characters like Zelma Stanton, Wong, and other magic users from Marvel help guide the students.
