Death sets one unsuspecting tattoo artist’s business (and body) ablaze in the fiery, gruesome first teaser trailer for “Final Destination Bloodlines.”

Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, whose previous credits include 2018’s “Freaks” and the live-action “Kim Possible” movie, the new film comes 14 years after “Final Destination 5” hit theaters in 2011. It’s based on a screenplay by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick (“Scream IV”) and will follow a new assortment of characters as they try to cheat Death and escape the grisly, cartoonishly constructed ends that await them.

The film’s first trailer is a simple return to form for the “Final Destination” franchise. Across its succinct two minutes, the spot follows a tattooist (Richard Harmon) grieving his father’s recent passing who ends up caught literally in a quickly escalating trap set in motion by Death itself. The results are predictably brutal and horrifying.

Grandave Intl. has acquired the international sales rights of dramatic feature “Deltopia,” executive produced by the late Olivia Newton-John, Tamara Nagahiro, Grandave Intl. head of sales, announced Sunday. CAA Film Finance and XYZ are handling U.S. rights.

Newton-John, whose best known movie performances included “Grease,” “Xanadu” and “Two of a Kind,” was a four times Grammy Award winning singer, and Golden Globe nominated actress. She died on Aug. 8 in California.

“Deltopia” is a coming-of-age story that takes place over a period of 24 hours. A group of friends from Southern California finish their last day of high school and travel to Santa Barbara for the biggest party of their lives.

Grandave Intl. will be introducing “Deltopia” to international buyers at next week’s European Film Market, which runs Feb. 16-22 in Berlin. The film is in post-production.

Cheyenne Jackson is adding producer to his resume. The actor and singer has quietly launched a production company, Shiny Boy Entertainment, with his husband Jason Landau, the couple exclusively tells me.

Their first project is “Brutal,” director Sam McConnell’s comedy short about a news anchor (Jackson) who acquires a leaked sex tape of a longtime U.S. senator. The cast also includes Rachael Harris (“Lucifer”), Angelica Ross (“Pose”), Johnny Sibilly (“Queer as Folk”), Drew Droege (“Search Party”) and Matthew Morrison (“Glee”). “Brutal” will premiere June 18 at Frameline in San Francisco followed by a Los Angeles rollout at Outfest in July.

Jackson came on as a producer of “Brutal” after McConnell offered him the lead role. “We’re using ‘Brutal’ as a proof of concept. We think it would be a great series kind of in the vein of ‘Veep,’” Jackson says.

The series had a devoted fanbase, but Netflix shocked everyone when it canceled the show after three seasons. And, no, there was no closure in sight. Boo. 3. Daredevil - Netflix Netflix canceled its roster of Marvel TV shows in one fell swoop, and Daredevil stood the best chance at a long life.

Freeform will be stirring up Good Trouble next month, with the drama’s Season 4 premiere on Wednesday, March 9 at 10/9c.

Additionally, it was announced that Priscilla Quintana, who plays Gael’s baby mama Isabella, has been promoted to series regular. In even more casting news, Bryan Craig (Grand Hotel, General Hospital) has joined in the series-regular of Joaquin, an independent investigative journalist with a mysterious background, while Booboo Stewart (Julie and the Phantoms) will recur as Luca, an unhoused man Joaquin is doing a story on and befriends.

Netflix has pulled the plug on comedy series “Julie and the Phantoms” after one season.

The well-received family friendly musical series revolved around a teenage singer played by Madison Reyes who winds up forming a band with the ghosts of three dead 1990s rockers.

“Julie and the Phantoms” dropped its nine-episode first season in September 2020. The series was a remake of a Brazilian property. Director-producer Kenny Ortega, of “High School Musical” fame, steered the series with showrunners and executive producers Daniel Cross and David Hoge. Other executive producers include George Salinas and Jaime Aymerich for Crossover Entertainment and Michel Tikhomiroff and Fabio Danesi for Mixer Entertainment.

Ortega confirmed news of the cancelation in an Instagram post.

“Our ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ family want to send our love and endless thanks to our Fantoms all over the world for the tremendous outpouring of love and support you have shown us since our premier.

Netflix has opted not to renew Julie and the Phantoms for a second season. Kenny Ortega, the musical dramedy’s executive producer, choreographer and director, announced the news on Instagram.

“We learned this week that Netflix will not be picking us up for another season,” he wrote next to photos from the set of the show. “Although our hearts are saddened, we move on with such pride for what we accomplished as a team and the family we built while creating Julie.” (See his full post below.)

The cancellation of Julie and the Phantoms, based on the Brazilian children’s seriesJulie e osFantasmas, comes more than a year after its first season was released on Netflix Sept. 10. The U.S. adaptation starred Madison Reyes as Julie, a high schooler who lost her passion for music after her mom died the year before. But when the ghosts of three dreamy musicians from 1995 suddenly appear in her mom’s old music studio, Julie feels her own inner spirit begin to reawaken and is inspired to start singing and writing songs again. As their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms.

Booboo Stewart, Cheyenne Jackson, Carlos Ponce, Sonny Bustamante, Jadah Marie, Sacha Carlson and Savannah Lee May rounded out the cast.

Executive producer Kenny Ortega confirmed the long-awaited (and long-dreaded) news via an Instagram post on Saturday.

Though Julie and the Phantoms features both evil and benevolent ghosts, the family series never strays into horror territory. Instead, it focuses on how the titular Julie deals with her grief and celebrates life through music. Julie and the ensemble of supporting characters, however, do make for pretty great character types of those found in slasher flicks.

If the characters were in a slasher flick, of course, they would be pursued by a masked killer instead of a power-hungry ghost. They also wouldn't have their ghostly abilities, leaving the vast majority of the main characters as teenagers trying to outwit a murderer making its way through the students at a performing arts high school. Not everyone would make it out of the experience alive.
