During the first 2 minutes of the film - during Jane's interview - a b&w still photo of Sandra Bullock from her film The Net (1995) is briefly shown to depict Jane in the early days of her career.
The film is based on the work of American consulting group Greenberg, Carville, Shrum in the 2002 Bolivian presidential election.

The protagonist played by Sandra Bullock was originally male but David Gordon Green and Peter Straughan were willing to switch the role's gender for her casting.
