- GEARHEAD Driven by his Father's Rage, Axelrod is Geared for Revenge It's 1973 at Thrasher's Junkyard, located on the outskirts of East Liverpool Ohio. Rolland Thrasher hadn't always owned a junkyard. In fact, there was a time when he was considered one of the most renowned surgeons between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Youngstown, Ohio. However, Rolland's passion had always been in the field of mechanics. So, in his spare time, he collected junk cars, trucks and etc. Always tearing them apart and studying the inner workings of motors, valves, hydraulics and such. Eventually, Rolland's mechanical passion began to affect his work as a surgeon as he began to practice some questionable procedures during some operations. In time, this caused him to be relieved of his duties at the hospital and, subsequently, he lost his license to practice medicine. All of this only gave Rolland more time and resources to pursue his real love of mechanics. With his Wife, Sara and his young Son, Alex Roderick, at his side, Rolland would leave the world of medicine behind and enjoy his life as the owner of Thrasher's Junk Yard. However, at the age of 11, Rolland and Sara's Son, Alex, is bitten by a mosquito that is carrying the malaria disease and unfortunately, through all of the hospitals attempts to help Rolland's ailing Son, Alex becomes mentally handicapped and is now considered "Retarded". And although Rolland and Sara make the best of it with Alex and his limited abilities, Rolland holds on to some anger because of the hand that he was dealt. Due to Alex's disease and his limited understanding, he no longer referres to himself as Alex Roderick Thrasher, instead, he calls himself "Axelrod". A fitting name for the Son of a junkyard owner. Axel's 6'8" size and "retarded" strength make him a huge help to his Father. After two of the towns drunks cause a horrible accident nearly kills Axelrod, Rolland patiently waits for hospital to provide healing and the police department to provide justice. Both, of which, would never come. But the rage of Father is not easily broken as Rolland takes his nearly dead son home and begins to rebuilt and restore his fallen Son, creating him to become his own personal means of vengeance against the community that rejected him and his family. With Rolland's hate and unceasing want for revenge being poured into his unconscious Son's head, Axelrod wakes up with a purpose and, with an axel rod in hand, he's geared for death and destruction. Can the love of Axel's Cousin and Best Friend, Terry Thrasher, be enough to stop him from destroying the town that he once loved?—Michael W. Mckinnon
