Andrea Licari, a Tunisian of Italian descent now 60 years of age, has become an accomplished author, college professor and a leading thinker in Rome. Today, Andrea finds himself facing the most challenging time of his life.

The weight of Andrea Licari's internal and external pressures including his failing health thrusts him back to his birth place of Djerba, Túnis. The task of fulfilling his mother's wish to bring her ashes back to her estranged birth place is filled with numerous tough memories to overcome. The weight of Andrea Licari's internal and external pressures including his failing health thrusts him back to his birth place of Djerba, Túnis. The task of fulfilling his mother's wish to bring her ashes back to her estranged birth place is filled with numerous tough memories to overcome. There, Andrea must face his demons in order to find peace in his raging soul and be able to forgive himself and those who haunted his entire existence.

The minute he sets foot in Djerba, Andrea is flooded by memories of his broken childhood. Images of his tumultuous past flash by, shaking him to the core. A dilapidated and abandoned boat brings back the ghost of his father Dario, the best sponge fisherman on the island. As a young child, Andrea used to accompany his father on his marine expeditions, until that dark day when Dario becomes disabled after an accident at sea. The Licari family sinks into misfortune and finds themselves without resources.

Complicating the Licari's life further, Gaetano, Dario's younger brother returns from Naples to profit from his brother's misfortune. Gaetano's attempt at selling the family estate creates an earthquake of emotions exposing many dark secrets. Andrea, as a child, discovers that he is in fact the son of Gaetano, his supposed uncle. The secrets, like violent waves, tosses him into the depth of his tumultuous past.
