Maxima is a stupendous documentary about a courageous woman. As a person deeply concerned about our environment, this film touched me to the core. The story of Maxima taking on a huge corporation is one of her singular strength and vision. We're all trying to do what we can to help planet earth, but how many of us are dedicating our lives to the struggle? Maxima inspires us all to care and do more. Even if you're not an overtly political person, her courage can't help but affect you. Though the film is shot in Maxima's native South America (beautifully, btw) the fight to save our planet is universal. I can't imagine someone watching this doc and not coming away inspired and moved. I absolutely was!

This film paints another heartbreaking picture of big business vs mankind. The surprise is this corporation didn't know they were up against a Goliath of another kind. Maxima is might be the smallest, quietest, most peaceful woman in the entire country, but inside she is a fierce, lion of a woman and the greatest enemy of big business: she doesn't care about money, fame, and she isn't afraid of anything. She is simply driven by a strong moral code and a desire to carry on her culture. In contrast, it is truly amazing how blatantly corrupt these companies operate and this film shines an important spotlight that no one will be able to turn away from.

This doc is beautifully shot and I highly recommend it if you're interested in human rights stories, or any human stories at all. A+

A beautiful, beautiful and inspiring film, The courage and strength of character that this woman, Maxima, shows, who with her family scratches out a living on their own land, against a multi-national company who doesn't seem to play by the rules and tries to destroy her, is something to behold. It makes one think that many of our perceived problems pale in comparison. Claudia Sparrow did an outstanding job on this documentary. There's some outstanding imagery of this amazing land, great interviews and a jarring reminder of how people used to, and still do, live off the land, juxtaposed to people living in our most modern cities today. This film shines a light on the dignity of the human spirit. Everyone should see this film.
