Is it weird to say that, for years, I’ve been looking forward to James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser’s closest-yet brush with mortality?
One of the most dramatic interludes in Diana Gabaldon’s The Fiery Cross comes to pass in this week’s Outlander when Jamie gets bitten by a snake and then nearly dies before Brianna is able to help her mother figure out how to save him. It’s the nearest that Big Red comes to shuffling off this mortal coil since Culloden, and ever since reading the novel, I’ve always been struck by how something...

Fame Academy may only have lasted two series, but boy, did it burn bright. And even though it was over ten years ago that it was on our screens, we're still belting out David Sneddon's utter tune 'Stop Living The Lie' at our DS karaoke sessions.
But the news of series two's Alistair Griffin teaming up with Kimberley Walsh for a Tour de France single got us thinking - what happened to all of our favourite Fame Academy contestants? Well, here's what we could find out about 16 of the students over both series...

Ashley House
Ashley might have been eliminated in week one of Fame Academy (the shame) but he's not let that little disappointment hold him back. He went on to guest star in an episode of Cbbc's Mi: High... look, we promise, this gets better. He's now a sports presenter who helped launch Arsenal TV,...

Dear Christina Ricci,
What do you think you're doing, exactly? I'll be honest, I didn't watch Pan Am, but Miss Emily Cheever liked it and I support it. I also support your weight. So why is your career as a feature actress flying off the rails? Why do you only choose silly/magical romantic comedies with unappealing co-stars?
Like, Penelope? Who told you that middlebrow crap was worth wearing a pig snout for? And in this new one, All's Faire In Love, who told you that taking a role that was originally given to f*cking Jack Black was a good idea? (That's true.) And don't even get me started on Prozac Nation, because I'm the only person who saw Prozac Nation. I hope Samuel L. Jackson chains you to a radiator until you learn how to choose your g*ddamn choices.
Anyway, here's the trailer for All's Faire In Love,...

Pan Am Filming Keeps Ricci From Film Premiere
Actress Christina Ricci was forced to skip the New York premiere of her upcoming movie All's Faire In Love on Tuesday due to filming commitments for her new TV series Pan Am.
The former child star was due to appear at Manhattan's Regal Union Square theatre to promote the romantic comedy, but she had to withdraw from the event at late notice, leaving director Scott Marshall to walk the red carpet alone.
Event representatives blamed Ricci's absence on her "rigorous shooting schedule" for Pan Am, in which she stars as a 1960s flight attendant for the famous and now defunct airline.

Beach Vacancy Written, produced, directed, and co-starring Brad Leo Lyon and also starring Jon Alderman (All's Faire In Love / Minor League), Beach Vacancy is a horror / comedy that tells the story of five college kids who veer of course on their way to Tiki Beach. Instead, they find themselves directed to the Sandpiper Motel, a potentially haunted resort right on the water.
Beach Vacancy promises to deliver on the charm of the fondly remembered Saturday the 14th while featuring some side splitting, belly laughs in the vein of such teen sex comedies as Spring Break or Fraternity Vacation. Beach Vacancy even features a dash of Scooby Doo as the film's protagonist stumble upon a mystery and find themselves having to solve it.
This is the second of three projects Director of Photography Skip Erickson has shot for Lyon Productions. Erickson first brought his visual skills to Minor League: A Football Story...

- They championed such cinematic wonders as Synecdoche, New York and Lars and the Real Girl, but the truth is: the market has changed and we might see the company being more selective and that is why Sidney Kimmel Entertainment's Kimmel International can get behind more fair by aligning their troupes with other indie producers. Kimmel are coming to Cannes loaded with several items that I'll be on the look out for 2009/10 such as the new Natalie Portman indie film Hesher, Mark Ruffalo's Sympathy for Delicious and the New York shot Paper Man from directors Michele and Kieran Mulroney (starring Lisa Kudrow, Jeff Daniels and Ryan Reynolds). It's the movie that just keeps on going -- just like its subject matter on a 109 degree summer's day. The Hollywood Reporter says that Ye Olde Times, which saw Jack Black and Lindsay Lohan visiting the Ren Faire has now been revamped into All's Faire in Love. It lost Black and Lohan along the way, but it's aquired Christina Ricci, Owen Benjamin, Cedric the Entertainer, Bill Engvall, and Nadine Velazquez.
The plot sounds as though it has gone an overhaul as well -- the story is now centered on Benjamin, whose shiny new drama degree has landed him a job with a Renaissance Faire theater troupe. Reduced to being their fetch boy, he meets a Faire virgin played by Ricci. That's a virgin to the Renaissance Faire, not the Shakesperean sense of "a faire virgin." But his swashbuckling colleagues aim to disrupt his budding romance.

It's been nearly six months since Lindsay Lohan checked out of Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah. And now the actress is opening up about the lifestyle that led her to rehab. "I think it was just situations that I was putting myself in," she told People at a photo exhibit last week at N.Y.C.'s The Atelier. "I was putting myself in the wrong situations and I didn't have the focus in the right place." Since leaving, Lohan, 21, said she's rid herself of bad influences and hangers-on.
