This is an historical romance that may or may not have happened - like the movie Titanic's romance . The period and settings are great for a TV series. After about the first 20 episode's the romance morphed into a melodrama and internal intrigue's which for me was more tedious and less entertaining - for other's - it may be your cup of tea.
The acting I found first rate and with subtitles I got used to, I feel I should be fluent in Spanish by now - I am not. I have watched 50 of the 60 episodes so I can't give away the ending and would be surprised if there was a season 2 - if there was - I don't think I could watch another 60 episodes of internal back stabbing intrigue
There is decent action and some sexual situations but no nudity
This historically based romantic drama in Spanish has helped me to relive and relearn those epic days of the conquest of the New World by Spanish explorers and adventurers. This period piece is well acted and reflects true-to-life characterizations, not only by the female protagonist Catalina "la India," (played by Essined Aponte) but also by her lover Pedro Heredia (played by Emmanuel Esparza). Although it is a fictional tale, it has several historical personages, not least of which is Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas, a champion of the rights of the aboriginals found in the Tierra Incognita/Nuevo España. Spain had only recently expelled non-Christians from their country and unified it. Nevertheless, to pay their soldiers and continue fighting their continental battles, they needed gold. This commodity drove nobles, adventurers, soldiers, and later the monarchs' agents to seek their fortunes and rule the lands of the "Indians" under the flag of the Christian monarchs of Europe. Atrocities were committed justified by the conquerors' conviction of the inferiority of the people they encountered. At the same time, they marveled at some of the cultures who were no match for Spain's superior arms, strategies, and tactics, although many fewer in numbers. Enjoy the tale while improving your Spanish.
If you like telenovelas, this's for you. Catalina and Pedro's relationship is pretty believable as are the hurdles they have to jump over in order to remain together. I've only seen a few episodes and yet I'm already hooked. They're pretty good. Then again, I like watching stuff in Spanish and this show delivers.
If you like compelling love stories (heartbreaks too), this's for you.

First 30 episodes score 10 out of 10. It would be great if the series finished there.
Then the next 30 are a really chap and pointless soap opera that scores a pure zero score.
Don't waste your time because it looks like the second part of this series is done just for making money and not by the same people that did the first part.
It's a real pity that such a great series is turned into an unwatchable cheap soap opera.
I watched many Colombian series and enjoyed most of them. For example, a great historical series like Bolívar which was great from the beginning to the end.
In other words, if you want to enjoy this series, stop watching after episode 30 because it will leave you with good taste. Otherwise, you will feel like me.

Drama...Romance...Action...Treason...Tears...History...Good acting...Good production... what else can you ask for? I really enjoyed this series, the acting and characters are superb, I don't really know which parts of it was true or not, I really don't care and it was not my aim, I've just embarked on this series by pressing PLAY and I let it to take and immerse me on the adventure. I really thought this was a Spanish production but it is Colombian, I am very impressed, they did such a good job. Get a dozen of handkerchiefs prepared, specially for the ending, lot of emotions will blow your soul and TV screen up.
WHEN IT ENDED I CRYED AND RUSHED TO GOOGLE TO SEE IF THERE IS A PART TWO AND YESSSSSS THERE IS HAVE TO WAIT A WHILE BUTTTT WORTH THE WAIT.

Can't say whether it's a true narration of history or just man-made fancy made up with a few sprinklings of actual event that may or may not have happened.
But, in reality it has all the trappings of a typical soap.
Mindless back stabbing to keep the pot boiling and episodes dragging do tend to test one's patience and intellect.
Having seen through to ep-8 I do have a strong urge to give up the ordeal of viewing it further.

It's like being transported into another time
And great characters who with so many episodes start becoming like old friends
It's just fun! Give it a shot if you like the Spanish or Turkish soap genre ..
Hope Netflix gives us more!!!

I watched the all episodes. But the climax is very sad .This serial is based on true story, But you can change the climax. Because the Character petro did wrong with Catalina, But really he is a honest man sincerely love Catalina. .but due to the situation he steel the gold from Catalinas family. He never think hearting Catalina. Every audience know that.
Anyway happened that due to the situation . But Catalina father know Petro save his life and followed by what happened That day .Catalina write the wooden peace she died there. But Petro keeping the wooden piece and build the monument for her memory .But she never see that wooden piece again . And if any one situation she see that then she know the Petros real love.
And before the climax Petro and Catalina want to find out her father and he tell to Catalina what happened that day. Then she can clear her misunderstanding abut Petro. Finally She realis the true and love again Ptro .And the climax Perto leave all possitions and go with Catalina and her father to their tribal land.
But now Catalina did marriage she did not find her father,She did not realize Petro sincere love. The Climax is very very sad .If you wat to kill Petro that is better this climax.

Even for a novella, hard to believe. "Indian princess"? Is this 1950?
Falling in love with your kidnapper, and the one who abuses your people? How is that not racist to claim that?
It's pretty obvious this is a fantasy for white guys who buy "sexy Indian" costumes for their girlfriends for Halloween.
It's a Pocahontas ripoff.

I love time period dramas. It is loosely based on the real Conquistador and Catalina de Indias story and the founding of Cartagena. The chemistry between the main characters is undeniable, all supporting characters are great, beautiful settings! The story is intriguing, and it really makes you hate or love the characters. Really well made.
At the beginning I was curious what is behind the title, than after the first episodes I was not really cached but since it was the first movie with a subject form that historical time period that I was watching I was thinking that will be good to go on... Really the best decision, I love it. Hope that the story will continue and I hope that I will like the end....

What more could you ask for in a period drama set during a such a tragic time in colonial history. The actors were perfect in their roles- all of them. Essined Aponte was absolutely brilliant in her portrayal of Catalina, fulfilling every bit and more of Pedro's heart felt description of her, while you couldn't help but feel for Pedro (Emmanuel Esparza) trying to keep it all together during incredibly challenging and difficult times. Two incredibly gifted actors, plus a supporting cast that you will came to know and will certainly miss at the end of the series. So many stories, a magnificent script, location and execution that compelled you to come back for more and more and more.... An emotional rollercoaster that had me looking into the lives of the real Catalina and Pedro in the hope of a happy ending.
Soapish tinge- Yes- but one that also had me looking immediately for any other projects Essined Aponte and Emmanuel Esparza have been involved with.

All I can say is amazing. It goes over what the Spaniards did to the natives and the horrors the natives had to face with added romance within all of that drama. Absolutely amazing. I love how she stands up for herself and her people. Perfect way of expressing the fact that the true savages were always the Europeans who came and destroyed everything here. There has always been wars and "conquests" of others throughout European history. Europeans have proven over and over again why they were the savages. Just because a culture is different from yours does not make it wrong. Amazing story with great actors. I am in love.
