In this 6 minute short, a couple meet and fall in love in an English Language class, presumably in Amsterdam. They share plans to meet again, should they ever be separated in the woman's home town of Anatolia. Later they are violently interrupted during a tryst in the back of a car, and are indeed separated. Will their plan to reunite succeed?
There's a lot going on in this film, yet at only 6 minutes, many gaps must be filled in by the viewer. The cultural complexity of a Turkish woman in a romantic / sexual relationship with a non-Turkish man in Western Europe is clearly challenging material, but somehow this film makes things very clear in only a few brief, powerful scenes. That said, some might find this too limited in scope to really do justice to the themes.
The quality of the photography, performances and overall production value is high. Like many short films, this one gives the impression a quality feature could have been attempted and audience may feel a bit short changed. Nonetheless, a worthwhile experience.
