The film took 11 years to be made and released with 2 of those years waiting to find a distributor after it's premiere at Cannes in 2023.
Nathan Williams's hopes for film is that it emphasizes themes of hope and redemption with its audience and "helps others to be a 'Stan Deen' in their community," elaborating, "Because Stan never stopped, he never gave up on me. He always encouraged and pushed me to be a better person, even when I didn't believe in myself."
Director Damian Harris and lead Jared Harris are brothers. According to Damian, their brotherly relationship helped coordinate their work on this project, with Jared always asking Damian before shooting each scene, "Where would you like me to stand?"
According to the real Nathan Williams, the first time he experienced Stan Deen's kindness was in a moment (not shown in film) when he first arrived in Deen's class noticeably hungry since he hadn't eaten for several days and being given a candy bar by the concerned Deen. Correction: the candy bar being given to Nathan is shown in the movie
Ben Sarro (Track Coach) is a 2004 Alumni of Garden Spot High school(where Stan Deen taught) and was a soccer, softball and track coach from 2010-2018.
