"It Was One of Us." Excellent!!!! Thinking about giving this one 7 stars, but will probably stick with 6. So many genres. This was an ensemble "Girlfriends" romp and a mystery. And the best part of all, a Lifetime movie where nobody dies, gets beat up or abused. It was just fun! Every character had an interesting story/challenge. The story centers around a group of five former college roommates who get together for their 10th year reunion. While drinking that night they all reveal something bad they've done in the last five years. Someone gets wind of their confessions and the mystery ensues.
All of the characters are good. Sarah Joy Brown as Emily Winstead is perfect! She's hilarious and embodies the wife and mother who, while loving her husband, fools around on the side as she struggles to let go of her youthful desires.
"It Was One of Us" reminded me of a movie I just watched Three Bad Sisters (1956) where only two of them were really bad. Same as "It Was One of Us," only four of them had done something truly bad. But the stuff they did was really bad.
Unraveling the mystery was interesting and it kept me guessing until the very end. I had no idea who the guilty party was. The reveal and subsequent resolution are not only satisfying but heartwarming. While the group faced a potentially friendship-shattering secret, the result served to strengtthen their bonds, leaving you with a feel-good sense of closure and the promise that their long time friendship will continue on.
