Right, well I must start by saying that I didn't have much of any expectations for the 2019 disaster movie titled "Arctic Apocalypse". And why is that? Well, simply because of the title for starters. Plus, most disaster movies being made are exactly that; disaster movies.
Turned out that "Arctic Apocalypse" wasn't a deviation from this unfortunate prediction. The storyline was bland and generic, to the point where it was actually being pointless. Yeah, that is how I actually felt about the movie, that it was pointless and a waste of time.
The characters were equally bland and pointless. And in fact, it is characters so mundane that you don't really care about them, much less being left with any lasting impression of who they were or what their motivations were when the movie has ended. Chances are that you don't even remember their names when you've seen another movie - that is what happened for me.
The acting in the movie was adequate, taking into consideration the limitations imposed on the actors and actresses in terms of having a weak storyline and script to work with, and by having bland and indistinguishable characters to portray.
A disaster movie is usually heavily dependent on having proper special effects and CGI that are bedazzling and look realistic, giving the audience a sense of impending destruction and feeling like they are right there in the mayhem. This wasn't the case for "Arctic Apocalypse". At best it was just stock footage of the arctic being used.
The movie's cover/poster even brandish "the day after tomorrow is today". Yeah, well this 2019 movie "Arctic Apocalypse" doesn't even reach the 2004 movie "The Day After Tomorrow" to its ankles.
Writer Bill Hanstock may have had an interesting vision for something that sounded and seemed good on paper, but directors Eric Paul Erickson and Jon Kondelik didn't exactly manage to make it an outstanding movie.
My rating of "Arctic Apocalypse" lands on a very generous two out of ten stars. There really isn't any need for you to spend your time, money or effort on this 2019 movie. Some of us suffered through it so you don't have to.
