When shown during the closing credits Ke Huy Kuan is wearing the baseball cap he wore in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Ke Huy Quan paid homage to his former role in The Goonies (Data) with a key chain containing the "Pinchers of Peril" and referencing "Slick Shoes"
All the interior cave shots were done in Thailand, since it's kapu (sacred ground) in Hawaii.
During a February 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ke Huy Quan recounted how he got his role in Finding 'Ohana after two decades of working behind the scenes instead of in front of the camera: "I did Finding 'Ohana after I got the role of Waymond for Everything Everywhere All At Once.... The reason I got Finding 'Ohana was, I was with some friends, and one of my friends started talking to the director Jude Weng. I'm listening to this conversation, and I hear Jude Weng talking about how she's getting ready to do a movie for Netflix called Finding 'Ohana; it's kind of like Indiana Jones-meets-The Goonies. I'm hearing this, and I'm like, wait a minute, I think I'm in both of those movies! So I got up, and I introduced myself, and four months later, I got a call from her saying, 'Hey, would like to be a part of this?' It was a small role, but it was a really nice and much-needed warm-up for Everything Everywhere..., so I was just really happy to do it."
When Pili drives the truck, she has Spam cans strapped to her feet to reach the pedals, and she says "Hold on to your tater tots!" This is a reference to Short Round (Ke Huy Quan's character) in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, who wears boxes on his shoes to reach the pedals while he is driving, and he says to his passengers "Hold on to your potatoes!"
