It's important to remember that the four lead characters of the popular sitcom "Seinfeld" — Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), George (Jason Alexander), and Kramer (Michael Richards) — are not good people. Most of the plots of "Seinfeld" episodes stem from their petty grievances, neurotic complaints, and unsophisticated discomforts. The central quartet were insensitive, callow, rude, self-indulgent, and weak-willed. They weren't ever presented as aspirational or even admirable. This spring from a mandate laid out by the series' co-creators Seinfeld and Larry David, namely: the show was to feature no hugs and no lessons. It was to be about nothing. This was to be a sitcom completely devoid of morals and sentimentality.
As such, it made perfect sense for the star characters to end the show in prison. In the two-part finale, called "The Finale", the four of them witness a man getting carjacked at gunpoint and choose to mock the victim's weight rather than help.

Days of our Lives spoilers for Thursday, January 9, prove that “share and share alike” isn’t a viable strategy when you’re Kiriakis half-brothers.

A judge decided that Xander (Paul Telfer) and Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) should be co-CEOs on Titan (mostly because Vivian [Louise Sorel] forged a codicil claiming that’s what Victor [John Aniston] wanted).
With the holidays over, it’s time to report to the office. It doesn’t go well. The last time, Xander actually drew a pistol and fired—only to learn that Philip had gotten rid of the bullets. If that’s where they started, where could they possibly end?

Trapped in a cramped trunk with nowhere to go but along for the bumpy journey, Katharina Sporrer’s character Manda finds herself in quite the perilous position. In the low-budget Danish film The Girl in the Trunk, Manda awakes dressed in her ruined wedding gown, kidnapped and confined to the back of a speeding car with no idea who is at the wheel or what fate awaits her.
With only a mobile phone to keep her connected to the outside world and keen on escaping her mysterious tormentor, Manda faces challenges both physical and emotional as she fights to regain control of her destiny.
Helmed by writer-director Jonas Kvist Jensen on a shoestring budget, this thriller is a nail-biting premise brought to life by some clever visual storytelling within very constrained confines. No space for excess set pieces or elaborate action scenes here—only Manda, her phone, and the merciless...

It’s been more than a quarter of a century since Seinfeld ended its nine-season run on NBC, and Jerry Seinfeld says he’s “a little bit” bothered by how the sitcom ended.
In a new interview, the stand-up comic talks about the TV show finales that he thought were great and discussed how he was not completely satisfied with how the characters ended up in a jail cell.
“I don’t believe in regret. I think it’s arrogant to think you could have done something different. You couldn’t. That’s why you did what you did,” Seinfeld said in an interview with GQ Hype. “But me and Jeff Schaffer and Larry were standing around, talking about TV finales and which we thought were great. I feel Mad Men was the greatest. A lot of people like the Bob Newhart one. Mary Tyler Moore was okay.”

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses plot points from the series finale of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
More than 25 years after he sent the “Seinfeld” gang to jail in the sitcom’s much-hated series finale, Larry David exonerated himself — both literally and figuratively — in the final moments of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
The April 7 series finale, which wrapped 12 seasons and 24 years of the unscripted HBO comedy, sees Larry on trial for accidentally breaking a Georgia voting law. In the finale, much like the last episode of “Seinfeld,” Larry sits on trial as rivals from his past — like Mocha Joe and Mr. Takahashi — serve as character witnesses for the prosecution, recounting every bad deed Larry has done.
Larry is found guilty and winds up in a cell, but while the “Seinfeld” crew remained in jail, Larry ultimately walks free — thanks to a legal caveat exploited by his old pal Jerry Seinfeld. As they prance out of the jailhouse,...

After a quarter century, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm will conclude, once and for all, with its April 7 finale — and I’ve got a pret-tay, pret-tay, pret-tay good idea of how it’s all going to end for everyone’s favorite curmudgeon, Larry David.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s the only way to bring this 12-season experiment in social indecency to a satisfactory close.

Slasher movies often droop between grisly highlights due to the weak plotting and cardboard characters meant to lend structural integrity to their shock content. “In a Violent Nature” avoids those pitfalls by pretty much sidestepping entirely the standard niceties of narrative and psychological detail. There is explanatory backstory — however piecemeal and possibly-inaccurate — but otherwise writer-director Chris Nash’s first feature approaches the usual bloody business with a sort of minimalist purity, enabled by focusing almost wholly on the Pov of one Unstoppable Killing Machine.
It’s a gambit that might easily turn monotonous. Yet this Canadian indie manages to keep us engaged, stirring queasy viewer dread if not much outright terror. Premiering in Sundance’s Midnight section, the Shudder Original is slated to begin streaming on that genre platform sometime this spring.

A potential Seinfeld reboot could focus on the next chapter of the characters' lives, picking up years after their release from prison and telling a whole new story about aging. The reboot should open with the overturning of the "Good Samaritan law" that sent the characters to jail, symbolically undoing the controversial finale and starting fresh. Instead of dwelling on their prison sentence, the reboot should ignore it completely and focus on satirizing the relatable aspects of daily life, just like the original series did.
Jerry Seinfeld has teased that a Seinfeld reunion is on the way, and there are a few ways that a potential Seinfeld reboot could rectify the mistakes of the show’s notorious series finale. Jerry Seinfeld hinted on Saturday that he and Larry David are working on a “secret” update to the much-maligned series finale of their hit ’90s sitcom “Seinfeld.” As part of a Q&a segment during his October 7 show, Seinfeld was asked if he liked the ending of “Seinfeld.” Jerry pretty much yada-yada’d his way through the response.
“I have a little secret for you about the ending. But I can’t really tell it, because it’s a secret,” Seinfeld told his Boston audience. “Here’s what I’ll tell you… something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. (It) hasn’t happened yet.”
“Just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about,” he continued. Seinfeld seemingly left it at that.
Oh God, it’s gonna be another Super Bowl commercial, isn’t it? That’s a shame.

It sounds like Jerry Seinfeld has at least thought about double-dipping on “Seinfeld.”
At a comedy show last weekend, the Emmy Award-winning co-creator and star of the hit series was asked by an audience member if he liked the show’s controversial ending.
“Well, I have a little secret for you about the ending, but I can’t really tell it because it’s a secret,” Seinfeld said in response. “Here’s what I can tell you, but you can’t tell anybody: Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. It hasn’t happened yet.”
After the audience erupted in cheers, he added, “And just what you are thinking about, [‘Seinfeld’ co-creator] Larry [David] and I have also been thinking about. So you’ll see.”

Newsmax’s right-wing panel show “The Right Squad” was reduced to an incomprehensible screaming match Friday during a debate over the killing of Jordan Neely.
Neely, a homeless street artist, was choked to death by U.S. Marine veteran Daniel Penny on a New York subway earlier this month after the former began shouting he was hungry, thirsty and had little to live for. Neely had allegedly been acting erratically prior to Penny’s chokehold, but had not attacked anyone, a witness who recorded the incident told CNN. Neely’s death was ruled a homicide, and Penny has been charged with second-degree manslaughter for the fatal choke.
Newsmax host Jenn Pellegrino asked the panel if these charges marked “the beginning of the end of the Good Samaritan,” which sparked a lively shouting duel amongst the pundits.

Bode is up for parole.
A lot of things happened on Fire Country Season 1 Episode 18, including Bode's news, Eve's struggles, Manny meeting a new romantic partner, and the fallout from the arson investigation.
Our Fire Country Fanatics Jasmine Blu, Dale McGarrigle, and Denis Kimathi discussed some of the biggest moments, including the Bode and Gabriela, Kane Brown's acting debut, and what they loved most about it.
Bode is up for parole. What are your expectations, and how might the outcome change the show?
Jasmine: It's late enough in the season where I can envision him getting paroled, but he'll still have to bide out his time until that happens.
And we still have Manny running the inmate program, Bode serving as a great example of its success, and things like that, so Bode can make that shift to becoming an official firefighter on Vince's team while still having the inmate element.

Investigating the nature of altruism, director Penny Lane turns the camera on herself in Confessions of a Good Samaritan, showing her process as an organ donor navigating the uncomfortable space of “gifting” a part of your body to a stranger. Single, in her early 40s, and financially secure after a decade of building her career, she decides its time to give back to the universe as a way of saying thank you for life ultimately working out.
For Lane, this is a rare work to proceed in a fairly straightforward manner. Extensive self-interviews frame her donation, which was made before Covid disrupted every industry, and Confessions unpacks the history of donations, including a 1984 decree that outlawed the exchange of money or anything of value for a body part. Though most donations are made to family members in need, online exchanges––similar to a dating website––are an option for those...

The U.S. Supreme Court, hearing a case that could reshape the internet, considered on Tuesday whether Google bears liability for user-generated content when its algorithms recommend videos to users.
In the case, Gonzalez vs, Google, the family of a terrorist attack victim contends that YouTube violated the federal Anti-Terrorism Act because its algorithm recommended Isis videos to users, helping to spread their message. Nohemi Gonzalez was an American student killed in a 2015 Isis attack in Paris, and his family’s lawsuit challenges the broad legal immunity that tech platforms enjoy for third party content posted on their sites.
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, passed in 1996, protects platforms from legal action over user-generated content, and it also protects them if they choose to remove content. Section 230 has withstood court challenges for the past three decades even as the internet exploded.

Blind Man’s Bluff: Jalilvand Plays Cheap Tricks with Overwrought Melodrama
To crib from (of all people) Margaret Thatcher, no one would remember the Good Samaritan saga at the heart of Vahid Jalilvand’s Beyond the Wall if it weren’t for a B-grade histrionic twist intended to elevate its narrative cachet. In Persian, the original title technically translates to Night, Interior, Wall, a much more poetic approach to this histrionic tale about a recently blinded driver confronted with protecting a desperate woman eluding the police.
Initially, the extended build up revolves around two lost souls abandoned by the world, it would seem, with a main protagonist attempting to seek some sort of solace or salvation through a good, apparently altruistic deed.…...

Okay, what was wrong with that judge?
It was bad enough that Leticia Harris' defense was that Erin's opening the case was politically motivated.
But on Blue Bloods Season 12 Episode 6, the judge kept overruling Erin's objections even when it seemed like there was no legitimate purpose to Leticia's questions.
Erin thought she lost the case because Kimberly purposely admitted to having lied in the past and made herself seem untrustworthy.
But the judge was also partially to blame. Harris spent each cross-examination opining about how Erin only opened the case so that she could steal Kimberly's job, sometimes testifying herself before asking a question, and the judge overruled every one of Erin's objections.
Even without the judge's obvious bias, Erin should have won that case. Harris' defense looked like that of a desperate woman.
She never once denied that her mother pulled the trigger -- her whole argument was that even if Sandra was guilty,...

1978’s Star Wars Holiday Special is known for many things: continuing the adventures of Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewie; introducing fans to Life Day and Chewie’s son, Lumpy; and being an all-around terrible TV special. But it also marked the first onscreen appearance of one of the most iconic characters in Star Wars: Boba Fett.
In the animated portion of the special, the heroes first meet Boba as an ally, a mysterious man in imposing armor who offers to help Han and Chewie after they crash on a dangerous moon in the Panna system. But we soon learn of this Good Samaritan’s true allegiance — he’s working for Darth Vader and the Empire. It’s this backstory that would later inform Boba’s first live-action appearance in The Empire Strikes Back, in which he’s hired by Vader to track down the Millennium Falcon in order to set...

[Note: With the film now released in the UK, here’s a reposting of our review of Don’t Look Back from its screening at Frightfest last year]
Writer/director Jeffrey Reddick has a lot of form when it comes to supernatural horror. Not only did he create the long-running Final Destination franchise but he’s also behind the likes of underrated and under-seen supernatural slasher Tamara, Dead Awake and the more recent The Final Wish. All films that play with the idea of the dead returning for revenge on the living in one form or another. And Don’t Look Back is no different.
Don’t Look Back tells the story of Caitlin Kramer, a young woman trying to overcome her traumatic past who, whilst walking through the park one day, sees a man brutally assaulted. However no one intervenes to stop the attack. Instead they all start...

This Fear the Walking Dead review contains spoilers.
Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 12
I’m just going to throw this out there: the second half of Fear the Walking Dead’s sixth season hasn’t been kind to moms. First, Virginia is killed off in “Things Left to Do” shortly after revealing to Dakota that she’s actually her mother, not her sister. And then, “In Dreams” spends most of its runtime selling the downbeat notion that Grace dies in labor. Instead, it’s her daughter Athena that doesn’t survive childbirth. Definitely not the best episode to air on Mother’s Day.
That being said, while “In Dreams” might deliver some interesting moments, overall it’s not one of Fear’s finest hours. Coming on the heels of a great episode like “The Holding,” this is a bit disappointing. Maybe my own disappointment stems from the fact that...

Nothing is clear-cut when it comes to “Cobra Kai,” the “Karate Kid” universe of series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. The line between good and bad is blurry and fluctuating, and you find yourself rooting for characters representing one or the other interchangeably. Similarly, the show is both a teenage soap and an adult drama, often inviting a sort of whiplash between a modern-day narrative and one of pure nostalgia. The sourced music, too, is not immune from this identity crisis as it overdoses on ‘80s kitsch tipping toward hard rock, hair metal and Aor, or album-oriented rock.
Indeed, the needle drops on “Cobra Kai” are so on-the-nose, especially lyrically, that you can practically predict which ‘80s classic is about to be cued up for a scene. Whether this is meant ironically, humorously, seriously or in a tongue-in-cheek way is as indeterminate as whether the viewer is...

The rock documentary was practically invented by filmmaker D. A. Pennebaker when he tagged along with Bob Dylan for his U.K. tour in April and May 1965 and shot fly-on-the-wall footage. Ninety-six minutes wound up in his 1967 film Don’t Look Back, but that was just a fraction of what he shot. He shared priceless outtakes in his 2007 film 65 Revisited and even more in 2015 on a Criterion Collection DVD set.
One of the highlights from the DVD was previously unseen footage of Joan Baez and Marianne Faithfull singing “As Tears Go By...

Hello again, dear readers! We’re back for another look at this week’s horror and sci-fi home media releases, and there are quite a few titles headed home tomorrow. So, if you have any last-minute shopping you need to get done, there might be something listed here that could be helpful in that regard.
Probably the biggest release of this week is Arrow’s brand new 4K 2-Disc Limited Edition set celebrating one of the best monster movies ever, Tremors, and Warner is showing some love to The Curse of Frankenstein as well. In terms of recent horror, we have a ton of brilliant genre fare to pick from on Tuesday, including The Wolf of Snow Hollow, The Beach House, Don’t Look Back, and The Call, and Full Moon has resurrected Orgy of the Dead as well.

October has been a busy month for horror and genre-adjacent releases, with nearly 40 different titles hitting various digital platforms and streaming services. Here’s a look at a pair of recent titles that this writer had the opportunity to check out: The Swerve from Dean Kapsalis and Jeffrey Reddick’s directorial debut, Don’t Look Back.
The Swerve: In writer/director Dean Kapsalis’ The Swerve, we’re introduced to the very stressed-out Holly (Azura Skye), a high school teacher and mother of two boys whose marriage is practically on life support. Holly has spent most of her life trying to do right by everyone else, as we see through her masterfully created homemade apple pies, her penchant for keeping everything organized in her family, or the amount of verbal abuse she passively absorbs from her bitchy younger sister, Claudia (Ashley Bell). The reality is that Holly is a woman on...

A few movies may have been scared off by the pandemic (like Blumhouse’s “Halloween Kills” and MGM’s “Candyman” reboot), but Hollywood’s spooky season comes to a crescendo all the same this weekend with several new horror offerings.
While Sony is charging $24.99 to rent its watered-down teen-witch sequel “The Craft: Legacy,” theatergoers can see Amblin-produced haunted-iPad chiller “Come Play” in theaters for less. Paramount is giving audiences a choice with hoodoo horror movie “Spell”: See it in theaters or via PVOD.
Netflix subscribers have options as well, with new releases including Sundance midnight movie “His House” and Polish import “Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight.”
To recap the other horror options that have come out this month, there are four “Welcome to the Blumhouse” movies on Amazon. Hulu had “Bad Hair” and “Books of Blood.” “Saw” co-creator Darren Lynn Bousman made “Death of Me,” while “Final Destination...
