Most of the young cast had no experience with performing arts when the film was shot, which gave a closer approach to reality, as happened in the film City of God (2002), where most of the actors also had no experience and were mostly slum dwellers.
The script was written with the participation of several teenagers, from a series of interviews in schools from Sao Paulo, made by the crew.
