    I laughed and cried

I'm avoiding spoilers, so I'll just say this: shows so rarely elicit real emotion in me, and yet this episode made me legitimately laugh and cry. Certainly, there were things that could have maybe been done better. But the emotional impact of this episode was very much there.

It was also really neat, as a fan of John Constantine-related shows (though I'm yet to read any comics), to see the Houses in a show, and Cain and Abel. I'm sure the links there might go over the heads of many people who aren't familiar with DC, or at least this part of the DC universe, but I loved it.

    Tools

Definitely a few tools in this episode. Story seems to be a hodgepodge of religion and myths, which makes it interesting to try and interpret. Good acting and high production value.

    Worth the watch!

I was familiar with the comics but this show has me obsessed! The actors delivered! The writers delivered. Haters will hate. But watch with an open mind and I think you'll be impressed and in love.

I don't see any drop in quality

I read a lot of stupid comments in the main reviews saying that the quality drops from episode 2. Well having watched episode two I can say that is so not true. Why are some people review bombing this show? Are they bots from rival streaming companies? This episode is just as good as the first one. It's interesting, intriguing and as well as fascinating. Plot still keeps you hooked and storytelling is done at a good pace. It's visually striking, I remember when tv series did not look that great. But now they do so how can you hate this show? I don't get it. Some people are hard to please. I'm glad I'm not like them.

Cain and Abel all over again

Episode 2 of The Sandman begins with Dream walking through the remnants of his old castle. Lucienne admits that after he left, the library withered and disappeared. The royal librarian was confident Dream would return but there's a certain poetic irony to a librarian staying loyal to a library with no books. Dream is not at full strength, and without his belongings - the helm, the ruby etc. - that may not be possible in the foreseeable future. So there's nothing to it but to find Ethel and track down his belongings. The second episode of The Sandman slows things down a little as we tackle parts of The Sandman's main mission, with Dream heading off and picking up his items again, which are scattered across the realm. In order to do that, Dream first visits Cain and Abel, wanting to take back a gift he gave them a long time ago. And that happens to be their gargoyle, Gregory. Dropping to his knees and outstretching his hand, Dream absorbs the creature and that paves way for us to tumble through a trippy series of dreams to summon the Fates. Or, The Three as they're more commonly known as; this trio of goddesses consists of the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. Through them, Dream learns that his belongings are scattered across various different areas. His helm was traded to a demon. The ruby happens to pass from mother to son (this is, of course, hinting toward Johnny and Ethel.) Finally, the sand belongs to Johanna Constantine. With some clues to go on, Dream prepares to track down his things. Dream sets his sights on Johanna Constantine first, deciding to head off to London and get his sand back. In his absence, Corinthian makes a brief appearance, warning Lucienne that Dream doesn't care about her and soon or later, he'll make that clear. So far this adaptation has been pretty accurately adapted and the fantastical imagery, with the visuals of the dreams and nightmares in particular, working well to really show off the great visual effects in this one.

Whether The Sandman will continue to remain faithful to Neil Gaiman's graphic novels remains to be seen, but given the man has actually been advising a lot of the story and narrative beats on this show, it certainly poses well for the future.

Lucienne: I kept a journal for a while. A chronicle of everything that happened in your absence. But slowly, the words began to fade. Sometime after you left, all the books in the library became bound volumes of blank paper. The next day, the whole library was gone. I never found it again.

Dream: And yet you remained while others fled, the royal librarian of an abandoned kingdom.

Lucienne: I never felt abandoned. I knew you would return.
