There are many twists and turns in this film. The first half is suspenseful and intriguing, but ultimately it all becomes a bit too contrived and convoluted and quite unbelievable as it goes on. It's too long and there are too many plotlines, so it kind of loses focus of the main one, which is a murder story. They should have just focussed on that and develop it more, because some of the characters and their motives could have been explored more and painted a little more creatively, because especially the bad guy was rather boilerplate.

Korean movies are boring and overrated, they take themselve too serious and are filled with artsy fartsy Nonsense. The Beast aka Biseuteo is maybe not so artsy fartsy like other K-movies,, but it is a boring confusing and overlong mess trying to be a superstylish Intelligent cop/serial killer Thriller with many plot twists. There are many other flaws and like I said before the storyline is confusing. Not Recommended. Depending on your moral compass and your drive to succeed and your ambitions ... well you may be motivated to do certain things that others (in this case the viewers for example) may not look favorably upon ... The movie has quite the story and the pressure for the two leads to succeed ... but instead of working together to overcome evil, they are made or rather pit against each other.
Who's first and all that. How far would you go? Would you allow yourself to go beyond the law even though you are supposed to protect it? Do the ends justify the mean? And how mean can or should you be? Quite the intriguing and crazy story ... you may not agree with many (or any for that matter) actions ... you may not find a character you really root for ... but that does not make the movie any less interesting and sinister ...

THE BEAST (2019)
THE fight between two detectives in solving serial murders...
This movie has unique ending...
A murder case takes place that shook the nation, veteran detective, Han-Su, begins investigating the case and does whatever necessary to catch the culprit, along with his junior detective, Jong-Chan.
In the midst of the ongoing investigation, the drug-broker, Chun-Bae, gives Han-Su a definitive clue involving the murder case, in return for covering her relation to a murder.
Han-Su's rival cop, Min-Tae, smells something fishy, and the investigation starts to take a wrong turn.
Must watch investigation thriller..!

I found this film to be an absolute masterpiece.
This is Korean cinema at its finest from the fantastic acting to the tense ridden musical score.
The film is basically ambition blinding people from doing their job and not caring about the consequences of their actions.
Films like this are the reason I love watching world cinema especially Korean, and not that Hollywood garbage that gets churned out like a machine.
The tension created by the ominous score and superb camerawork is genius.
Another review complained about the phone ringing sequence...I thought that was the best scene and had to rewind it twice! Look at the paranoia that ringtone represents and what's going on around him do to him.
This is a modern Korean classic and a must see for everyone!

Incredible! Only 10 reviews (mine included) for such a gripping, dramatic storyline and such masterful direction. What an absolute thrill to watch!
Unfortunately released a year before the start of the worldwide covid pandemic, but this movie deserves to be REleased worldwide to a wide Western audience! They would love it!
The good: where to begin? Let's start by saying that this movie already starts out rather bleak, dark and violent, but it slowly yet steadily evolves into an even more major dramatic, thrilling and violent final. So have some patience at the beginning, you will definitely be rewarded by a devastating end!
More good: it's a dirty cop movie, but not just anohter run of the mill one. Because the acting performances are rock solid, but the intricate gripping and dramatic storyline deserves most of the applause, because what a mayhem of violence, drama and deceit this story turned out to be. Wow!
The story starts out quite simple with a dirty cop who crosses the law, but who now gets caught up in a murder case in which he is doomed to be found guilty in aiding and abetting the assassination of a powerful drugboss.
The desperation of the leading character is visceral. The depths of betrayal between rivalling cops are boundless. The violence is hideous. The characters are lost and doomed and yet still so humanlike and relatable.
This is absolutely not yet another run of the mill dirty cop / serial killer movie, this is truly something else and then some! Marvellous direction by a young new director. Highly recommended for the arthouse movie fans of the South Korean crime genre. They wont come much better than this!
Bravo!
