Whitney Peak, one of the leads of the recent Gossip Girl reboot, has signed on to star opposite Phoebe Dynevor in Sony Pictures’ untitled shark thriller.
Tommy Wirkola, who last helmed the David Harbour-starring Christmas action movie Violent Night, is helming the feature that will begin shooting in Melbourne in July.
Plot details are being kept in the cage but it is said to revolve around a community that has to deal with shark attacks during a hurricane.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, who count Don’t Look Up and The Big Short, amongst their output, are producing the project via their HyperObject Industries.
On the Gossip Girl reboots, the Ugandan-born, Canadian-raised Peak played Zoya Lott, the newcomer to the machinations of the chi-chi Manhattan school at where a lot of the stories were set. She also starred opposite Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi in Hocus Pocus 2,...

Penn Badgley had only one request for You showrunner Sera Gamble going into season four: “Can I just do no more intimacy scenes?”
The star of the hit Netflix series recently opened up on his podcast Podcrushed about wanting to take a step back from romance roles and intimacy, due to his desire to remain faithful to his wife, Domino Kirke, who he married in 2017.
“This is actually a decision I’d made before I took the show,” Badgley said. “I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it publicly, but one of the main things is like, ‘Do I wanna put myself back on a career path where I’m just always a romantic lead?'”
He continued, “It’s really important to me … Fidelity in every relationship — and especially my marriage — is important to me, and it just got to a point where I didn’t wanna do that.

Netflix’s thriller series “You,” which just returned for Season 4, has made some major changes this season. It’s set and filmed in London after spending the first three seasons in New York and California; compulsive stalker Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) has the tables turned on him, and now someone else is stalking him; and Badgley has a beard now. But maybe the biggest change is that Badgley isn’t doing sex scenes anymore.
On an episode of his podcast “Podcrushed,” Badgley explained his decision to stop doing scenes of physical intimacy on “You.”
“I asked Sera Gamble, the creator of the show, can I just do no more intimacy scenes?” the former “Gossip Girl” star said. “This is actually a decision I’d made before I took the show. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it publicly, but one of the main things was, like, do I...

Exclusive: HBO content, including tentpoles such as House of The Dragon and Succession, is on the verge of moving from Indian platform Disney+ Hotstar, where it has been streaming since 2016, according to local industry sources.
The move seems to be in line with Disney CEO Bob Iger’s announcement of a restructuring and cost-cutting at the company. While HBO content, in particular Game Of Thrones, helped Disney+ Hotstar build its subscriber base when it first launched a pay tier, English-language content is still considered a niche market in India.
At the same time, the Disney-owned platform is under pressure to reverse its subscriptions decline with more mass market content. Although it remains India’s biggest streamer, Disney+ Hotstar’s subscription base dropped by 6 to 57.5 million during the quarter ended December 31, 2022. The decline is partly attributed to the loss of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, which was bagged by Viacom18...

Actor and internet darling Penn Badgley wants to set the record straight: He’s not a nepo baby — but he is a daddy.
While he’s perhaps best known for his role of Dan Humphrey in the Og Gossip Girl, life has changed a lot since Badgley last put on a prep school costume. He’s older, he’s married, and in 2020, he became a dad of two. But in Season Four of You, Badgley returns to his preppy roots, dawning several blazers (and a new beard) as serial killer Joe Goldberg.

You's Penn Badgley suggests that the show could be ending soon. In season 4 of the hit Netflix drama, Joe Goldberg (Badgley) relocates to London and takes up the name Jonathan Moore. He moonlights as a regular professor, hoping not to arouse any suspicions for his past crimes. But it doesn't take long for Badgley's character to find himself caught up in a mess again. Specifically, in You season 4, Joe's life devolves into a murder mystery while he attempts to move on from Marienne (Tati Gabrielle).
During an interview on Happy Sad Confused, Badgley promoted You season 4 with part 1 currently streaming on Netflix.
He also offered a bit of a timeline for when the show might end. Though he stressed that he didn't know anything for sure and added that the main focus was maintaining the story's quality, the former Gossip Girl star mentioned that he'd signed a six-year contract and...

Charlotte Ritchie fans are very excited for Charlotte Ritchie. The star of Fresh Meat and Call The Midwife is much-loved on her home turf but her fans predict a new wave of stateside stans. “Charlotte Ritchie’s fame era incoming,” reads one tweet. Another laments: “It’s gonna be hard to gatekeep Charlotte Ritchie now.” Others skew more unhinged. A few are of the “I’d let Charlotte Ritchie step on me” variety. “That’s so worrying!” Ritchie, who is absent from social media and therefore cloistered from its deranged dialect, laughs. “Flattering – but worrying!”

In what appears to be a new wave of layoffs, several senior scripted executives have left the broadcast network, including Gaye Hirsch, EVP, Development, who is departing after more than 15 years, and fellow CW veteran and head of department, Michael Roberts, who had been at the network (and its predecessor the WB) for 21 years, sources tell deadline.
Also said to be leaving alongside Hirsch and Roberts are Ellen Rand, SVP of Current Programming and Steve Tao, VP, Current Programming, I hear. The full extent of layoffs is unclear. Reps for the CW did not return calls and emails seeking comment.
The high-profile departures come three months after new CW owner, Nexstar, named former Pop TV topper Brad Schwartz as President of Entertainment.
In his first major executive move, he just hired former NBCUniversal executive Heather Olander as Head of Unscripted, an area that will have a big presence on the network in its new incarnation,...

The CW, in its latest shift away from scripted originals, is dismantling its current programming department.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that exec vp current programming Michael Roberts and exec vp development Gaye Hirsch — two of The CW’s remaining most important scripted executives — are among those who were let go Thursday. An exact headcount was not immediately available, though sources say others were impacted by the layoffs.
While losing the heads of current and development are a big blow to The CW’s efforts to continue making scripted originals, this is not a complete dismantling of its scripted executives as sources say some lower-level staffers — i.e., those with smaller salaries — are being retained.
Reps for The CW did not respond to THR’s multiple requests for comment.

The Oc creator Josh Schwartz explains why the show never included popular pairings, such as Summer and Ryan. Throughout the course of its run, The Oc remained largely faithful to the core pairings of Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) and Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton), along with the memorable Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) and Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson) couple. Though it occasionally introduced obstacles for the core four to overcome and eventually had to shift plans with the death of Marissa at the end of season 3, the teen drama stood apart from others in the genre in that it didn't try to mix and match between the four main characters.
During an appearance on the Welcome To The Oc, Bitches!, Schwartz opened up about why the series never tried to pair Seth and Marrisa or Summer and Ryan.

Coming from a background in Spanish physical comedy, Mariel Molino, who plays a nanny with a sinister secret in Freeform’s new Hitchcockian thriller series “The Watchful Eye,” faced a “learning curve” while filming ominous scenes as she transformed big movements into small specifics full of nuance and imagination.
“Everything that you think you might have to play up, actually, you have to be a lot more small about and you have to be more specific and nuanced,” Molino told TheWrap. “I really learned to trust my instinct and my imagination … and use the camera as my co-star because a lot of the scenes were me alone and me reacting to a sound that wasn’t there, or a person that is not there.”
The new Freeform series, which premiered Jan. 30, follows Elena (Molino), a live-in nanny to a wealthy widower (Warren Christie) who moves into a mysterious Manhattan building riddled with old money,...

The creators behind series “Tuca & Bertie,” “Gordita Chronicles,” and “Whistleblower” have issued statements alleging the Warner Bros. Discovery merger has had disastrous effects on female Poc showrunners.
The statements, published as an addendum to a December 21 Writers Guild of America report on the effects of mega-mergers, are titled “How the Warner Bros. Discovery Merger Hurts Workers and Diversity.” The report claims the Wbd merger de-prioritized female-led series featuring stars of color and ultimately led to the shows’ cancellations.
“The casualties of this mega-merger include numerous projects created by, featuring and/or centering the experiences of women and people of color,” the statement reads, citing multiple projects “including ‘Batgirl,’ one of very few mainstream superhero films to feature a Latina lead actress; ‘Full Frontal’ with Samantha Bee, one of a handful of woman-hosted late-night shows; ‘Gordita Chronicles,’ a series about a Dominican immigrant family whose showrunner was a Latina woman; ‘Tuca & Bertie,...

Hello, Wisconsin! This week, ’90s fashion isn’t the only thing making a comeback, as the latest Wrap Report highlights.
Nearly two decades after the final episode of “That ’70s Show” aired, audiences were ready to return to the Formans’ basement, according to the report, which uses TV viewership trends analyzed from Samba TV’s household panel of over 25 million connected TVs, including both linear and streaming consumption. “That ’90s Show,” a nostalgic spinoff featuring characters who are relatives of the original ones, ran the tables and claimed every single spot on the top 10 most-watched streaming charts for the past week.
The premiere episode of the series nabbed the No. 1 spot and was watched by 1.7 million U.S. households in its first four days available to stream on Netflix. The rest of the 10-part series followed suit, illustrating just how bingeable the series proved to be in its first week.

It was announced in 2019 that American author Colleen Hoover's "It Ends With Us" would be getting a movie adaptation after the novel was optioned by Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios, with the author serving as a consultant on the film. The teens are looking ahead to a drama-free life. However, what they don’t know is that Roger (Malcolm McDowell) turned to Jordan (Adam Chanler-Berat) about his plans to expand Gossip Girl. Showrunner Joshua Safran reveals what was cut from the finale and what we would have seen in a third season. After news broke of the cancellation, you said you’re looking for another home, but also that you didn’t expect to find one. Has your take on that changed since then? Joshua Safran: No, not at all. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Gossip Girl series finale, “I Am Gossip.”] The Gossip Girl revival on HBO Max wrapped its two-season run with the mention of two major characters from the original series on The CW, and according to showrunner Joshua Safran, they’d tried to get both actors to appear, but scheduling didn’t work out. The teens set a trap by first having Zoya (Whitney Peak) claim she’s Gossip Girl, then dropping the rumor that Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, and Danny Strong were in a multi-million dollar bidding war for the rights to the story. Of course, Kate (Tavi Gevinson) shows up to what she thinks is a Hollywood meeting, revealing she’s Gossip Girl to the teens. Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the Season 2 finale of HBO Max’s Gossip Girl.
It was never supposed to end this way. HBO Max‘s Gossip Girl took its final bow on Thursday as the Season 2 finale hit the streamer. Since news of the show’s cancellation broke last week, the episode now also serves as a series finale.
Showrunner Josh Safran told Deadline that he’s holding on to a glimmer of hope that the series might land at a new home, but he’s had an inkling for months that this might happen, considering the growing number of streaming cancellations and Gossip Girl‘s hefty price tag.

DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn weighs in on the Titans and Doom Patrol cancellations. 2022 was a rough year for DC fans, and 2023 is no exception as Warner Bros. Discovery continues its restructuring. While Doom Patrol was initially conceived as a Titans spinoff, the show eventually disconnected itself from the other. Both series have six episodes left to air as part of their fourth seasons, which drop sometime this year on HBO Max.
With Titans and Doom Patrol cancelled, fans are taking to social media to share their disappointment with the series coming to an end. However, some are suspecting the newly launched DC Studios is one of the causes for Titans and Doom Patrol...
