Nancy Green-Keyes, a casting director who worked on the first two Rush Hour films and on six films directed by Nick Cassavetes, including John Q, The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper, has died. She was 68.

Green-Keyes died Wednesday of respiratory failure at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, her brother Andrew told The Hollywood Reporter.

A former agent, Green-Keyes launched Barry/Green-Keyes Casting with a former client, actor Matthew Barry, and they got their start on Rush Hour (1998), directed by Brett Ratner. They would share Artois Awards from the Casting Society of America in 2002 for The Family Man and in 2005 for The Notebook.

They also cast the Cassavetes films Alpha Dog (2006) — on which they received producer credit, too — Yellow (2012) and The Other Woman (2014).

Green-Keyes also was a producer on 100 Mile Mule (2002), Lonely Street (2008), Bad Country (2014) and Of Mind and Music (2014).

Born on May 29, 1955, in Providence, Rhode Island, Green-Keyes graduated from Brandeis University...

Her death was announced by her family.

A Rhode Island native, Green-Keyes studied art at Brandeis University before moving to Los Angeles, where she would eventually land a job as assistant to talent agent and manager Susan Smith.

Green-Keyes later became an agent at the Peter Meyer Agency and later still at Ambrosio/Mortimer, where she helped develop the careers of John Hawkes, Steve Buscemi, Angela Bassett, Samuel Jackson, M.C. Gainey and Troy Evans, among others.

Moving from agenting to casting, Green-Keyes and her partner Matt Barry were responsible for casting dozens of films including Rush Hour (1998), The Family Man (2000), John Q (2002), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), The Notebook (2004), Alpha Dog (2006) and My Sister’s Keeper (2009).

The cause of actor Evan Ellingson’s death has been revealed less than a month after he died at age 35.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Ellingson died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl. His body was found on November 5 at his residence in Fontana, California.

The actor opened up about his struggle with addiction in 2021 when he sought out addiction recovery treatment at River’s Edge Ranch. He said he began using drugs at age 19.

Ellingson had several notable roles in films and television roles throughout his childhood and teenage years. In 2009, he played Jesse Fitzgerald in My Sister’s Keeper, acting alongside Cameron Diaz, Abigal Breslin and Sofia Vassilieva.

Evan Ellingson, a one-time child star, best known for his lead role in the 2009 film My Sister’s Keeper and also for his work on CSI: Miami, has died. Ellingson was found dead Sunday, Nov. 5 at his home in Fontana, CA, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled this morning to determine the cause of death. He was 35.

Ellingson’s final and perhaps best known role was in the cancer drama My Sister’s Keeper, directed by Nick Cassavetes, playing the son of Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric and the brother to Abigail Breslin. The film, based on Jodi Picoult’s 2004 novel, also starred Sofia Vassilieva and Alec Baldwin.

His career began with guest spots on Mad TV, later moving on to a series regular role on Fox sitcom Titus in 2002. He portrayed Kyle Savage, the son of single dad Keith Carradine in ABC sitcom Complete Savages...

Trying to appease the whole of the "Resident Evil" community with an adaptation is at this point, impossible. Exclusive: Dynamic Television is developing adaptations of Jodi Picoult and Mario Giordano novels in Germany and lining up an ambitious French drama series about Concorde. Company chiefs Dan March and Klaus Zimmerman revealed the projects in an exclusive interview ahead of Dynamic’s tenth anniversary.

Dynamic, which began life as a distributor at Mipcom in 2013, has been pushing heavily into active development and production over recent years and is the lead production company behind Apple TV+ wine drama Drops of God. Its next set of scripted projects are at early development stage and don’t yet have networks attached.

The Drops of God maker has acquired rights to make a German version of Picoult’s novel Nineteen Minutes and Germany-based Giordano’s novel The Experiment, which was previously turned into a Hollywood film starring Adrien Brody and Forrest Whittaker. “These are big IP projects for the German market,” Zimmerman told Deadline.

Exclusive: Sofia Vassilieva and Dan Tracy are set for recurring roles in J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan’s Max period drama Duster, starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson.

Co-written by Abrams and Latoya Morgan, in Duster, set in 1972, the first Black female FBI agent (Hilson) heads to the Southwest and recruits a gutsy getaway driver (Holloway) in a bold effort to take down a growing crime syndicate.

Vassilieva will play Jessica. Tracy will portray Agent Chad Grant. Character descriptions are being kept under wraps.

The Vancouver-based producer is planning to turn Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan’s novel into a premium TV series.

The novel focuses on themes of young love, teen angst and parental grief, interwoven with murder and high-intensity courtroom drama. The story follows a mother, who relocates to her sleepy New Hampshire hometown to take over the family beekeeping business, whose son is suspected of killing his girlfriend.

Emily Deschanel is set to star in a new Netflix limited series based on the book “Devil in Ohio,” Variety has learned.

Deschanel will lead the series, which is based on the book of the same name by Daria Polatin and is inspired by a true story. Additional cast members include Sam Jaeger as Peter, Gerardo Celasco as Detective Lopez, Madeleine Arthur as Mae, Xaria Dotson as Jules, Alisha Newton as Helen, and Naomi Tan as Dani.

In the series, when hospital psychiatrist Dr. Suzanne Mathis shelters a mysterious cult escapee, her world is turned upside down as the strange girl’s arrival threatens to tear her own family apart.

There’s something about organ-transplant movies that encourages sentimentality and wishy-washy melodrama; looking back to movies such as Return to Me or Seven Pounds or My Sister’s Keeper. But this one promises a more hard-edged look at the ethics, the compromises and the difficult choices. “The heart is just a muscle,” grunts top surgeon Andre Boxer, played by Kelsey Grammer. Boxer is a gruff, cheerless workaholic who smokes like a chimney and often looks terrible. It’s a bravely unflattering and un-Frasier-like role, though somewhat improbably, Boxer is sleeping with a colleague played by Julia Stiles, a good 25 years his junior.

The crux of the story is an urgent debate over who should receive a heart that has unexpectedly become available. Alongside Grammer and Stiles on the transplant...

The 82nd annual Academy Awards took place in March of 2010 and honored films released in the previous year, 2009. That year gave movie-goers a lot of great films including; The Proposal, My Sister's Keeper, Funny People, and The Time Traveler's Wife. None of those films received award nominations from the Academy that year.

The films who received the biggest nomination of the season for Best Picture were: The Hurt Locker, Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, Inglorious Basterds, Precious, Up, A Serious Man, and Up in the Air. This was the first time since 1944 that more than five films were nominated in this category, but even still, it seems the Academy left a few films out that may have deserved the nomination over some that did receive it.

HBO Max has a lot to offer in August, with titles to look forward to including the premiere of a brand new Seth Rogen movie called “An American Pickle” on Aug. 6, and Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film “The Dark Knight” out Aug. 1.

The nascent streaming service also shares content with HBO, with new films coming like “Jojo Rabbit” out Aug. 1, “Birds of Prey” out Aug. 15, “Richard Jewell” out Aug. 8, and “Queen & Slim,” out Aug. 22. The upcoming series “Lovecraft County,” which mixes fact and fantasy and takes place in 1950s Jim Crow America, arrives Aug. 16.

Leaving throughout the month include, tragically, all eight “Harry Potter” films, which will be gone after Aug. 25. Other absolute classics like “Good Will Hunting,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and both “Kill Bill” movies will be gone after Aug. 31, so watch them while you can.
