Eduardo Sanchez, the man behind The Blair Witch Project and the upcoming Lovely Molly has announced his next film: Exists.  Hit the jump for more. Returning to the found-footage style that launched his career, Exists follows a group of friends on a weekend camping trip who discover they are being stalked by Bigfoot. We're running a bit late, but in honor of Indie Horror Month our March Texas Frightmaker is someone deeply embedded in the indie horror scene, scream queen Roxy Vandiver. In a short time Roxy has established a reputation as one of the next generation of gorgeous screamers in films like Sweatshop, Spirit Camp, and Killer School Girls from Outer Space.

Mr. Dark: Since some of our readers might not be aware of you, who the hell are ya?

There have been many films created about a legendary monster spotted in and around Texarkana. The creature has been called the Fourke Monster, but here the hairy villain will be known more simply as bigfoot or the Sasquatch. There have been at least three other Boggy Creek films beginning in 1972 and this reviewer admits to not seeing any of the previous films (The Legend of Boggy Creek, Return to Boggy Creek). Boggy Creek, starring Texas Battle ("Death Valley"), Melissa Carnell (Humans Versus Zombies), Julin (Sweatshop) and Denise Williamson (Spirit Camp), in a very under the radar release in this series as Hannover House did not promote the September 13th release on DVD at all. The lack of tension in a supposed horror movie explains why there was little fan fare.

The entries are in and the votes have been tabulated. I will now announce the two awesome, clever winners of the Planet Fury/SplatterFest 2011 Oasis of Terror Contest.

But first, I want to extend a hearty thanks to Kerry Beyer and Kelly Burns Smith, the perpetual motion machine that keeps SplatterFest running. They've been most gracious and have shown Planet Fury a lot of consideration this year. What they've done down in Houston is pretty cool. Besides being two of the nicest and most attractive people in Southeast Texas (seriously, you should see them), they are also two of the most committed people…or they are two of the most often committed people — I always mix that up. Whatever. Kelly and Kerry don't seem too dangerous, and after watching them in action, I appreciate all the sleep they sacrifice to make SplatterFest happen. They are truly the keepers of the flame.

It's been a frighteningly entertaining week down in the Bayou City. SplatterFest — Houston's leading horror film festival — is in full swing, delivering eerie entertainment to an eager Southeast Texas audience. But, sadly, it all ends tonight.

Since Tuesday, hundreds of horror and genre fans have flooded the Alamo Drafthouse for a nonstop cinematic menu of horrific exploitation fare garnished with a side of special guests.

Are there any two busier cuties right now than Denise Williamson and Julin Jean? These pair of “Hotties” have become the newest “Scream Queens” of the horror genre thanks to their roles in Spirit Camp, Boggy Creek, and Killer School Girls from Outer Space. Their latest is the short film Bright Ideas, which appears to be outside of the genre, but we at Killer Film are big fans and we wish them the best on anything they do.

Filmmaker Stacy Davidson and writer Ted Geoghegan’s film Sweatshop has been getting rave reviews from the festival circuit, and now we have the stylish trailer for the 80′s-esque splatter film for you to check out. Kerry Beyer burst onto the independent film scene last year with his directorial debut Spirit Camp. Kerry took some time out for Killer Film to tell us about how this was much more than just the typical directorial debut.

Joshua Hull: Where did the initial concept of Spirit Camp come from?

Kerry Beyer: The idea for Spirit Camp really grew out of my love for 80’s slashers. I missed those types of movies, and I wanted to do an updated twist of the genre while keeping the old school vibe and pacing. …and who doesn’t want to see hot, half naked cheerleaders getting hacked up? I mean, the whole cheerleader thing has worked pretty well for Hustler, lol.

From Texas filmmaker Kerry Beyer and Kerosene Films comes Spirit Camp, a delightfully entertaining slasher comedy highly respective of ‘80s horror. A cheerleader’s mom takes her and her friends out to a cheerleading camp for the summer. Coming along for the ride are some cute, flighty cheerleaders looking towards a summer of practice and the occasional drugs and alcohol to sneak behind the backs of their trainers. Also along for the ride is a sarcastic, anti-establishment troublemaker of a girl who’s spent some time in a juvenile detention center and is going to the camp as part of her punishment. The local sheriff warns the girls that a maniac had escaped from a nearby asylum. Several characters come into play which of whom could possibly be this psycho, including a camp caretaker, a gas station attendant, and a whacky old dude. As nighttime nears, people soon start disappearing.

There's Lots of horror coming to the Lone Star state this April, and we've got the early word on what movies you can expect to see playing during the Texas Frightmare Film Festival.

"Texas Frightmare Weekend announced it has extended the dates for its companion Texas Frightmare Film Festival this year (April 28–May 1). Highlights from the lineup include the Us premiere of Tim Sullivan’s 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams, George Romero’s Survival Of The Dead, and Adam Green’s Sundance hit Frozen.

Green’s Frozen stars Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell, and Kevin Zegers and follows the life or death choices a trio of skiers and snowboarders must make when they find themselves abandoned on a ski resort chairlift. Boggy Creek is definitely not a remake of 1972, as Julin (Spirit Camp) tells 28Dla.com, but an original feature that is the first to show the Caddaja. The Caddaja is an ancient creature from the ancient Caddo culture, that likes human flesh. Julin, who appears as Kay O'Brien in the feature, also states that the film was shot in the north-east of Texas near Louisiana. Lots of swamps here. Also, director Brian T. Jaynes sums up the plot of the film succintly: "it's a thriller that centers around a story of five young kids who get caught out in a swamp in Boggy Creek, Texas" and "we painted our own version of Sasquatch." Spirit Camp is a film that was edited, directed, and scored by actor Kerry Beyer. The film was released on DVD on December 27th and the film blends campiness, cheerleaders, and some choice cuts in this second Kerosene Film production. The acting by a few of the smaller characters comes across as amateurish, but Julin as Rachel and Roxy Vandiver as Nikki shine like two golden globes. Spirit Camp is a film for horror film fans made by horror film enthusiasts.

The story starts off with a small group of cheerleaders camping in the forest at night and viewers will instantly know something not good is going to happen. Actress Julin passed on a couple of exclusive pics (see them below) from Spirit Camp, a cheerleader-slasher flick in which she plays one of the lead roles. The film was written, produced and directed (and shot, edited and scored) by Kerry Beyer, an acclaimed fashion photographer who won the Slamdance Anarchy Film Showcase and was a semi-finalist for a Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting.

The Final is a "terrifying story," according to publicists, that follows a group of high school outcasts who host a costume party and employ an arsenal of physical and psychological torture to avenge the years of humiliation and torment they suffered at the hands of the popular students. Shares director Joey Stewart, “The Final is about being picked-on, bullied and tormented, and the retaliation and revenge that it incurs. As the outcasts begin to feel that life has no meaning, they make a pact for revenge and suicide that they believe will teach these kids a valuable life lesson.

A few days ago Foy clued us in to the proposed remake of 1972's The Legend of Boggy Creek. At that time no details were available, but today a source close to the production dropped us a line with the names of not only the director but also several key cast members.

To be called simply Boggy Creek, the redux stars Damon Lipari (of the upcoming Wrong Side of Town) as Dave, Jennifer Sipes (Oliver Stone's W), Melissa Carnell, Samuel Haun, Carlos Tovar, Jennifer Minar, and Julin (pictured, of the upcoming Sweatshop and Spirit Camp) as Kay. It is being directed by Brian T. Jaynes, who just wrapped on the urban thriller Hittin' the Streets with Texas Battle and Toni Trucks.

Principal photography begins next month in Texas.
