The studies in Essex county NJ, and in Maryland, of incidents of gun injury and death of juveniles, or by juveniles, show that north of 95% of such incidents the access to the gun is due to a criminal domiciled with an illegal gun in a home or some other access from a criminal.
It is no different that the data on juveniles being stabbed or engaging in violent crime. In the vast majority of cases this is is directly related to a sibling, person in a relationship with the mother who is a criminal and domiciled or visiting the home. The data suggest we ought to make it illegal to allow felons and career criminals into homes where children are domiciled, that would end more than 95% of firearm harm to children.
