This game had a certain appeal to it, it had a nice retro look to it as it looked like a really suped up Super Nintendo game rather than a game for the Playstation 2. The characters and such just had that 2-D look to them and an anime style that was very reminiscent of the later days of the Super Nintendo system. The story is about the same as many role playing games with the main difference the use of alchemy to aid you on your quest. You also flip between characters as the guy is trying to stop bad things from happening on the planet and the girl is using alchemy to create items to aid him on his quest. The fighting is a bit like that found in the Grandia series as you have a meter and when it is your time to strike you have a chance of knocking back the bad guy a bit. The music is good too as it is really energetic and light hearted. Some of the game is a bit difficult as far as some of the fights and you will have to level which I have never really been fond of in role playing games, but for the most part it is not nearly as difficult as other fare these days like Final Fantasy 12 for instance. The main problem of the game comes near the end when I thought the game was over, instead it had more to it. I thought this game was going to be a nice change of pace and end relatively early for a game of this type, but it kept going on a bit more after I thought it ended. Still, it did have an interesting twist near the end and it was a nice idea to have the girl come to the boys rescue.
When I first bought this game at Gamestop on my 24th Birthday,I have to say that this game was the greatest since the first one. I also have to say that it has a good storyline, and the characters were cool. My favorite characters in this game are:Felt,Fee,and Grey. Another thing that is cool about this game is you can also create items just like in the first one,and customize your weapons. My favorite part about this game is when Poe married the cat girl Natsue. That is the most funniest part that I liked. The game features the great voice talents of Spike Spencer,Michelle Ruff(famous for Digimon,Chobits,Kannazuki No Miko, etc)Bob Papenbrook,Mona Marshall, Jamieson Price, and others. I also want to dedicate this game in memory of Bob Papenbrook, because he was a great man for doing this game, and I'm glad I played this game. So in closing,if you have played the first Atelier Iris game, then you should play this game. It's the best, and you will see what I mean.
