Idris Elba is ready to live the journey, as he has been cast as Man-at-Arms aka Duncan in the upcoming live-action version of Masters of the Universe.

Idris Elba follows in the footsteps of past Duncans Alan Oppenheimer (the mid-’80s animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe), Jon Cypher (1987’s live-action flick with Dolph Lundgren), Liam Cunningham (Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation), and more. He will be joined in the cast by Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn and Camila Mendes as Teela.

Iconic actor Tony Todd has died at the age of 69, it has been confirmed. As reported by THR, the Candyman, Platoon, and Star Trek: The Next Generation star, who amassed in excess of 250 professional credits over the course of an astonishing, five decade spanning career, passed away on 6 November at his home in Los Angeles after a long battle with illness.

Anthony Tiran Todd was born in Washington D.C. on 4 December, 1954 to Evetta Lyons Gaither. At the age of just three a young Tony Todd moved to Hartford, Connecticut where his auntie, Clara Elliston, took custody of him and nurtured his adolescent curiosity with the arts. Kevin Smith had an idea for intriguing stunt-casting in his new film, The 4:30 Movie — he’d hire his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, to play the Kevin-Smith-as-a-teenager character Brian David. Smith’s wife Jennifer signed off on the idea: “Harley is just a beardless, dickless version of you.” But despite the chance to play the film’s lead, Smith’s offspring turned him down flat.

“She was just like, ‘You don’t think I’ve got enough nepo baby shit to deal with online? You now want me to play you? Fuck that,’” Smith told Hollywood Reporter.

Amazon MGM and Mattel's long-gestating live-action Masters of the Universe reboot has added another major cast member, with Alison Brie set to take on the role of the villainous Evil-Lyn.

THR reports that Brie will join the previously announced Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, and Riverdale alum Camila Mendes as his right-hand woman and (possible) love-interest, Teela.

As her name suggests, Evil-Lyn is a wicked and powerful sorceress who serves as Skeletor's second-in-command. Lyn was played by Meg Foster in the previous live-action movie, and was voiced by Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey in Netflix's Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated series, which added some new dimensions to the character.

Brie has some experience playing a cartoonishly evil villain thanks to her Glow character's wrestling persona, Zoya "the Destroya."

Netflix has revealed plans to premiere an animated Tomb Raider television series in October 2024. The show, titled “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” will feature voice acting from Hayley Atwell in the lead role of Lara Croft. Atwell is well known for her work in movies like Captain America: The First Avenger and TV shows such as Agent Carter.

The series will take place after the most recent Tomb Raider video games. Viewers will follow Lara Croft on her mission to recover a stolen Chinese artifact with personal significance. Brief footage in the teaser trailer hints at daring stunts like car chases and explorations of underground lava caves. Croft will also face dangers chasing suspects through crowded city streets.

Tasha Huo serves as the writer, producer, and showrunner. Huo has experience writing for shows such as The Witcher: Blood Origin. The animation studio Powerhouse will bring the series to life.

The upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe reboot has added its second major cast member, with Riverdale alum Camila Mendes set to play the key role of Teela.

THR reports that Mendes will join Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man. West Side Story actor Kyle Allen was previously attached to play the muscle-bound hero.

Teela has been a permanent fixture of the Motu franchise ever since those first mini-comics, and is usually depicted as Prince Adam's protector and He-Man's right-hand woman/love-interest.

The character was played by Chelsea Field in the previous live-action movie, and was voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar in Netflix's Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated series before being replaced by Melissa Benoist.

It feels like the movie has been in the works forever, but the live-action Masters of the Universe movie is finally taking shape at Amazon MGM.

Bumblebee's Travis Knight is set to direct, while writer Chris Butler (who worked with Knight on the animated Laika) is penning the screenplay. David Callaham, Aaron Nee and Adam Nee all contributed to earlier drafts.

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, the big news today is the fact we have a He-Man: Nicholas Galitzine.

He's best known for starring in Amazon's romcoms Purple Hearts, Red, White & Royal Blue, and The Idea of You, and recently received praise for his work alongside Julianne Moore in Mary & George. Black Adam star Noah Centineo was previously attached to the role but exited in 2021.

In July of 2023, Netflix announced that not only had they axed their plans to adapt Mattel's "Masters of the Universe" property into a live-action film, but they were doing so after spending over $30 million in development. Fans had been looking forward to a human He-Man flick since it was first announced in 2007, but the development with Sony Pictures in 2022 seemed like a sure bet. Then it was scrapped, but the project's move to Netflix made sense considering the streamer is home to "He-Man & Masters of the Universe," "Masters of the Universe: Revelation," and "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power." Unfortunately, Netflix dropped the project, which had already cast actor/dancer Kyle Allen to play He-Man/Prince Adam, and Mattel was left looking for a new home for the film. According to a recent report from Variety, that home has been found with Amazon and Travis Knight has been announced as the director.

Mark Hamill is one of the most widely recognized and respected actors of all time. Through his work in the Star Wars franchise, he has become a household name. However, what many might not know is that long before he entered the world of Jedis and Darth Vader, the actor was a well-known voice actor. While his work as Luke Skywalker has helped his face get recognition, his voice has continued to be used in animation.

Diego Boneta is set to lead the newly greenlit bilingual series El Gato (w/t), based on the comic book series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. Production is anticipated to begin this spring in Mexico.

Boneta was previously attached to a project based on the same comic book titled El Gato Negro: Nocturnal Warrior from MGM Television and Mark Burnett in 2019 that stalled.

In El Gato, Boneta will play Frank Guerrero, the black sheep of his family, who finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy when he discovers his father was the titular ‘70s vigilante. When a director circles a project, it can be a tentative proposition – as we all discovered last week when word began to spread that David Leitch was likely to make the next Jurassic World entry, before he swiftly dropped out. But things are apparently much more promising for Bumblebee director (and Laika studio boss) Travis Knight, who is closing in on a deal to handle the new live-action Masters Of The Universe film.

According to Deadline's sources, Knight has yet to sign, but it's looking good for him — especially since Chris Butler, a veteran Laika writer and director – is polishing the script. But they'll need all the help they can get, as this is one that has eluded more than one studio and a host of filmmakers.

Here we go again. Another year is starting, which means it's time for the "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" movie to get yet another director. Like so many projects stuck in developing hell, it seems like practically every director currently working in Hollywood has, at some point, been involved in this film.

Now, Deadline reports that Travis Knight — the director of "Bumblebee" and "Kubo and the Two Strings," founder and CEO of Laika, and son of Nike co-founder Phil Knight — is the latest name to be attached to the long-in-development "Masters of the Universe" movie from Mattel. The report specifically says he is in "final negotiations" to direct, yet the deal hasn't closed just yet as other elements of the film are still being figured out. Nevertheless, this is exciting news, and brings the project one step closer to actually getting made.

Amazon MGM Studios is eyeing a live-action Masters of the Universe film, based on the popular ’80s toys from Mattel, Deadline can confirm. While in very early talks, the project would come over to the streamer from Netflix, where it fell apart over the summer.

Believed to be continuing on with the project are Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City), the writer-directors who’d been at work on it for Netflix. Then, there’s Kyle Allen, who had been set for the starring role of Prince Adam aka He-Man. Among those set to produce is Todd Black.

“Thanks to the SAG strike, I’m the most famous person here,” joked Kevin Smith at a San Diego Comic-Con panel for Netflix/Mattel’s Masters of the Universe: Revolution.

Smith says that the panel today is different than originally planned, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but says the actors are doing what they need to do for their union. “Let’s give it up for unions! We hope that they crush their overlords, like Netflix,” he said quipping about his streaming employer that’s behind the He-Man show.

The Motherboard character will play a bigger role in the upcoming sequel series Masters of the Universe: Revolution, and now Mattel has unveiled images and video of a Motherboard action figure! According to Paramount+, Beavis and Butt-Head will “triumphantly return as two guys who like things that are cool and don’t like things that suck.” Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, fans can check out “Beavis and Butt-head Do the Universe,” the 1996 movie “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America” and the remastered versions of the original MTV series all on Paramount+.

The new Disney+ film "Disenchanted" is a long time coming, following up the 2007 comedy that served as Amy Adams' breakout role. In "Disenchanted," Giselle, an animated princess who winds up in New York City, inadvertently brings fairytale characters, like her old friend Pip the chipmunk, to our world. This time around, Pip's a lot chattier, and is now voiced by Griffin Newman, comedian, co-host of the popular movie podcast "Blank Check with Griffin and David," and actor from "The Tick" and "Masters of the Universe: Revelation."

“Batman: The Animated Series” originally aired for 85 episodes on Fox Kids from 1992-1995. Conroy’s deep, gravelly Batman voice was widely acclaimed by critics and comic book fans, with many regarding the actor as the definitive Caped Crusader. The series also featured Mark Hamill’s memorable performance as the Joker.

“Kevin was perfection,” Hamill said in a statement. “He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.”
