It was announced in Nov. 2018 the Lego Batman director Chris McKay will direct a live action Jonny Quest film for Warner Bros.
In the early 1990s, Superman director Richard Donner and Lauren Shuler Donner attempted to get it off the ground after Ted Turner purchased the Hanna-Barbera library. In 2010, an adaptation was greenlit with Zac Efron as Quest, Dwayne Johnson as Bannon and Peter Segal circling to direct, but the project never happened. Most recently, Robert Rodriguez was attached in 2015 direct.
Production for the film goes as far back as 1995 when Richard Donner optioned for the rights for the film.
Joe Cornish, Justin Lin and Scott Derrickson were in the running to direct the film after Robert Rodriguez step down from directing.
Idris Elba, Bradley Cooper and Will Smith were up for the role of Race Bannon.
