"Pelin henki" premiered on YLE TV2 channel on Tuesday, October 19, 1993. Hosted by Antero Viherkenttä and/or
Saara Karhu, it aired two times a week during the 1993 and 1994 seasons: the main ~25-minute episode (later shortened) aired on Tuesdays with focus on sports events, news and interviews, while the ~5-minute companion episode aired on Fridays, focusing on Finnish sports betting tips and odds. The last episode for 1994 was aired on December 30 and in 1995 "Pelin henki" was replaced by a similar themed series "Pelikaani" (aired through 1995, with some episodes also in 1997), hosted by Karhu and

Krista Taubert (née Salomaa). The main ~30-minute episode was first aired on Tuesdays, but moved (also shortened) to a Monday time slot from October 28, 1996. The companion series titled "Pelivihjeet" (aired in 1992-1993 and 1995-1997) was aired on Fridays. A new host Marja Kokkonen was introduced in June 2, 1997 when Salomaa moved to host
Ajankohtainen kakkonen (1969). In September 1, 1997 the series yet again changed its format with a new host
Petri Nevalainen (with sports betting expert
