The production location in the mountains of upstate New York was chosen in part to take advantage of the snow that always fell during January, when production was scheduled. During the production period, however, not only did it not snow for the first time in 131 years, it was so unseasonably warm that the opening sledding scene had to be rewritten and shot with actors in light sweaters.
