Based on a 2002 screenplay by Dario Argento and Franco Ferrini that was shelved when Cecchi Gori, the production company, filed for bankruptcy.
This 2022 release marked Dario Argento's return to the director's chair in approximately a decade.
One of couple of Dario Argento's films to be shot entirely in native Italian. The other film that was shot in native Italian was The Five Days (1973).
In a press conference at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2022, Dario Argento spoke about the significance of the killer driving a simple, unassuming vehicle: "We have a bad guy with this white van and it's funny that that should be so dangerous because usually you have goods being transported in it but in this film it's the monster. Of course I chose it on purpose. An anonymous white van... I was inspired to do this by certain American films about cars. Grindhouse (2007), I'm thinking of Quentin Tarantino here, and other films, American films, where you have wild cars. Duel (1971), for example, where you have this huge truck. I just decided on this aspect of an anonymous van which wouldn't make anybody afraid because it's white. It's not huge. It doesn't seem dangerous, but it is very, very dangerous, on the contrary."
